The real problem is that there is way too much stuff to watch on Mondays. My cable box has the capability to hold like 2000 channels. There is like 100 channels that just show music with no music videos with it.

Too much stuff to watch or listen to. Also the ability to stream is on the internet now means that people are watching online instead of on their tv. If WWE could somehow track all of the JTV streams instead of just trying to ban them they could use that information to show people are watching it to their sponsors. You can't skip the commercials when it's live, so any live stream sees all USA network commercials.

And yet, despite those "billion" threads, we still have to put up with guys banging on about how the Attitude Era was better or how the Titles "used" to mean something, etc.

Seems the message isn't getting through. Will this thread help? Probably not. But what harm is there in having a "billion and one" threads on it?

No seriously, I agree. The WWE is going in a good direction at the moment and is very enjoyable, and there are plenty of talented guys in the independents putting on routinely good shows. Why anyone wants to see Mae Young and Mark Henry's sexual escapades again is a mystery.

Let's get real XL.

The older teens/young adults grew up on the Attitude Era.

Now we have to be put through watered down mayonnaise like Sheamus and Santino and Cena.

Who wouldn't be pissed off?

And what's our alternative?

TNA? The retirement home for wrestlers? The Company that has the owner sitting ringside, talk about kayfabe...

We don't have shit.. Instead we are being led by the PG era for merchandise sales for Cena and Linda McMahons political ambitions for the next 30 years until she heels over.

Let's be blunt and not sugarcoat it.

We miss MONDAY NIGHT WARS. Not just the uncensorship that went on.

We miss tag team divisions and cruiserweights and groups like Nexus.

We don't particularly enjoy seeing Cena come down and play his hero/superman gimmick and then having Santino pull a few pranks then a diva match then the stupid main event.

We want more depth and hardcore action.

What happened to the Cactus Jacks?

We are upset that WWE lets people like Shelton Benjamin and Mickie James/Tara go to be left with The Miz and Vickie Guerrero.

It's like spitting on everything true wrestlers meant to the WWE Universe and the wrestling world.

Cheap Heat isn't cool, it's just downright lame.

whether you want to admit it or not miz is good right now. vickie guerrero's character doesnt take anything away from the product

the only things mick foley is great at are talking and falling down

"better" does not equal "good."

Further, the assumption of another boom is a really bad idea. The idea that things will always bounce back is pretty much the worst business model ever, and a poor way to justify the current state to a fan or from a fan's perspective.

People would still find things to bitch about though. If the product never changed we wouldn't have known how good it was and everyone would be complaining about how stale it is. I don't think anyone is saying the attitude era was bad. But it's time to move on, that's the idea of the thread right? It was great while it lasted, but even if they tried the IWC would sulk because they would be trying too hard to make it like the AE and it still wouldn't be good enough.

I like the things mentioned in the first post except I never really watched much of WCW, but there's nothing wrong with preferring it over the modern stuff, but when you fixate on it like wrestling is the only form of entertainment, that might be a problem.

I never really got the excessive bitching, I agree the Attitude Era had more creative freedom and PG isn't as amusing as TV-14 but it still entertains me and if I hated it I wouldn't watch it/spend a lot of time bitching online about it.

That's nice, except one of the things about the Attitude Era was that it kept things fresh. Even the bad steps were new and exciting. the crowds were hot, people tuned in to see what was happening.

So it's nice, but neatly misses the point. But then, so does the whole "appreciate it for what it is" nonsense. People are. It's just that, you know, nothing happens in a vacuum.

Pretty wrong there Rammestein.

The reason why you're tired of seeing the ECW guys or the retired hall of famers from WWE is because they are used frequently.

The ex WCW stars aren't used as much and a lot of us grew up watching the Monday Night Wars.

I for one would enjoy seeing some old rivalry matches on Wrestlemania, not some legends vs new shit that they toss in.

Miz is good, Morrison is good, but isn't it all a little too predictable these days?

The backstage beat downs, the ho trains, the through the crowd fighting...etc.. that was entertaining.. Seeing people thrown off a cage, now that was WRESTLING...

If I want to watch Miz and his PG self, I'll turn on Kermit the Frog and reminense about those old times.

That's gr8 you enjoy the PG ERA.. Ask your dad to buy you a Cenanation t shirt to really top it all off.

I'll buy Hardys Screw PG shirt.

yeah and as an 11 yr old, I thought they were cool!

The Attitude Era inspired my generation to take up Backyard Wrestling and to get more involved in physical hobbies.

I bet Adam Evans misses the Attitude Era.

I was a child of the 1980's (ten years old in '88) and there are a lot of things from that decade that I sorely miss.

Those were the days when the M in MTV stood for music, not mundane... when I would spend Saturdays playing "Pac-Man" at the local video game arcade, or "Red Rover" with my cousins in our backyards... and when I would eat "Candy Cigarettes," and watch "Alf," "Chips," and "You Can't Do That On Television". That was also when I believed in Santa Clause, before the beginning of "Sports Entertainment," and before I figured out that everything in wrestling is a work.

My point is, IMO, a lot of things were better back then. A lot of you weren't here in the 1980's and you missed out on a lot. There's plenty about the WWE that I enjoy today, that's why I still watch it. But if I had a choice between being a kid again, watching "wrestling," and having the illusion that it's "real," or being an adult and watching "Sports Entertainment," I'd go back to the 80's in a heartbeat.

I watched wrestling in the 80s. Had to sneak it over at friends houses, so I didn't watch it all the time, but I've seen the good and the bad.

But hey, if you don't think the Attitude Era is the end all, you probably like Cena!:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Anyway, the Attitude Era had a lot of trash, like any other era. What kept it going is that everything was so exciting, even the shite seemed exciting. 90s era 2 Cool got larger pops than most of the main eventers these days. That's not to say they were brilliant wrestlers, or hugely charismatic, but they were huge because the Attitude Era was huge. Jamming your arse in someone's face could get over, dancing around as neon wiggers could get you over, being a porn star could get you over, talking to a head could get you over....You get the point.

People often complain about the PG Era for the wrong reasons. it's not so much that it's PG that's the problem, it's that it's...boring. The dumb shit looks worse because the product isn't as exciting. With Nexus, shit got exciting. I had a few weeks there where I tuned into every show with the same sort of anticipation as I did in the Attitude Era.

So basically, what I'm saying is the PG Era can still be good. I don't miss the blood or the barbed wire, I miss the excitement. and what really killed the Nexus Angle to most of us is that it suddenly became very predictable. I don't want the old era back, just the excitement.

If that makes sense.

For the record KK, I enjoyed the Attitude Era as much as anyone, but the whole point of this thread is basically about everyone who's still whinging about the PG era and how 'WWE was awesome in the AE but sucks now'.

And same for all the 'which WCW stars should we see in WWE?' posts.

Edit: Oh yeah, and your post makes sense. ;)

Remember that time Al Snow was European Champion and Blackman was the Hardcore Champion and Malenko was the Cruiserweight champion.

Good times.

I get that, but the era does kind of suck.

that's why ratings are down, crowds are quieter, and we have middling champs who are more a "see what sticks" approach. I mean, I like Sheamus, feller, but the fucker was put up too fast, and largely as a trial.

Trying out guys at the top is a horrible idea, even if I liek some of them, but it's a product of the era.
