So today at the wee old age of 6 months, my 360 hard drive decided to crash. Microsoft, like the lovely multibillion dollar conglomerate they are, refuses to help recover my data, claiming that its gone for good. This after them selling me a defective product thats still under warranty. Especially irks me because I'm 100% positive that you can recover data from a crashed hard drive.

So, before I decide if I want to pull the trigger on sending it to a data recovery company (and drop hundreds of dollars in the process), I'm trying a trick:

Evidently read. freezing the damn thing works, give it a read (http://www.emergingtechs.com/posts/put-your-hard-drive-in-the-freezer-to-recover-data/)

Use this thread to (a) receive helpful information if you ever have a hard drive crash, (b) join in my bitching and share stories about lost data or (c) tell me how damn sorry you feel for me :(

I'll let ya know if it works.

(Life being ironic, I clicked the back button when writing the post, and had to rewrite the whole goddamn thing. Not my day)

1. Y The Last Man is awesome.

2. Send it in without the hard drive. When it comes back fixed, pop it back in.

I'm curious of what you could possibly have collected over 6 months to want to even think about spending hundreds of dollars to get it recovered.

That's what she said.

Yes, yes it is. And its the hard drive itself that crashed, the system works just fine w/o it.

Nothing really, besides my Dragon Age saves/character and my Fable 3 saves. The reason I'm reacting so harshly is that my old 360 hard drive also failed, which axed 6 years of data...THAT was an absolute pain to lose. I'm 99.999% sure I won't spring for data recovery.

Yeah, start over. If your box is fine, get a new hdd and move on. You could have a dead box.

This reminds me that I want to back up my PS3 hard drive but don't really know what to do.
