<font color=goldenrod>Dark match- Showtime Percy Watson defeated Tyler Reks
Superstars–Chris Masters and JTG defeated Chavo Guerrero and Curt Hawkins. Fun back and forth match, Masters won with a Masterlock on Chavo.
Smackdown opened with Kofi celebrating his title win from last week. Jack Swagger interrupted, which led to-
Kofi Kingston defeating Jack Swagger. Not sure if this was a title match. Fun back and forth match, Kofi won with the SOS, but it appeared the ending was botched when Swagger didn’t kick out at the right time.
Next, they filmed the opening and pyro. Del Rio came out and put himself over and talked about winning the Rumble. He was interrupted by R-Truth, who was interrupted by Dashing Cody Rhodes, who was interrupted by Rey Mysterio. A brawl was broken up by Teddy Long, which led to–
Rey Mysterio and Rtruth defeated Cody Rhodes and Alberto Del Rio. Another fun back and forth match, Rey won after a 619 and top rope splash onto Rhodes. Mysterio slipped off the rope performing the splash, and laughed it off afterward.
Trent Barretta beat Drew McIntyre. Drew dominated the match, was looking to Gorilla press Barretta over the top, when he slipped off for a quick roll-up win.
McIntyre attacked Barretta in the back, but stopped when Kelly Kelly walked in. He apologized and told her he had aggression issues, and she told him she didn’t like being around people who cause others pain, and told him to grow up.
Wade Barrett vs Big Show went to a no contest. When Big Show had the upper hand, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel stormed the ring to help Wade. Ezekiel Jackson also showed up and joined in on the beat down. They all joined hands and celebrated together.
Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool. McCool controlled most of the match and worked over Beths injured knee. Finish came when Beth went for the Glam Slam and Michelle rolled through for a pin, but Beth rolled back through for the win. Layla and Michelle are both great looking women, and Beth is pretty hot too.
Cutting Edge with special guests Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero. Lots of back and forth and jabs at Vickie. She gets amazing heat, I could barely hear when she talked, and I was front row. She said Dolph was a real man, and showed footage of Edge making out with Alicia Fox the day before he married Vickie. Edge said he also had some footage to share, and showed AJ and Primo walking in on Dolph and Kaitlyn making out 2 months ago. Edge knocked Dolph out of the ring. Vickie slapped him several times, and he looked to spear her, but was pulled from the ring and beat down by Dolph. He and Vickie stood over Edge and made out to close the show. Very good segment.

Anyone else interested in how the two Nexuses will react to eachother come Rumble time?... Will they fight? Will they embrace eachother in a hug and screw the other competitors over? Interesting....

Heath Slater as the babyface CM Punk? Justin Gabriel is the one with the epic beard dude! If anything he's the CM Punk.
I would say this could work only if they were on two different brands. Both of the groups would be heels though, so it wouldn't be like the the nWo black and white and the Wolfpack. We'll have to see what happens on Smackdown. I'm guessing that Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel will switch to the Blue Team tonight. They will end up helping Wade Barrett defeat The Big Show and will be the The Nexus. Since CM Punk has now changed the name to the New Nexus (which Michael Cole botched by saying it before Punk did btw) I would say that the Nexus name is up for grabs.
Other than Big Zeke being involved. I nailed this one!

Anyone else interested in how the two Nexuses will react to eachother come Rumble time?... Will they fight? Will they embrace eachother in a hug and screw the other competitors over? Interesting....i called them both being in at the end of the rumble(prolly with Cena or Show)and Punk or barrett winning the match in the rumble predictions thread. So what colors will this new group have on their t-shirts? Yellow and purple aren't options apparently.

I love this as well! I had a belief that some variation of this would happen as well with having a Team Punk vs Team Barret vs a Team Cena (I still believe you could have R-Truth get involved here due to prior fringe involvement. Morrison could join in as well.)
Truth is calling it the "New Nexus". I dunno why they just don't make it the S.E.S again and get it over with.
In terms of themes, they'll most likely just have Punk's theme be for the whole stable.
The next question is whenever the Skip Sheffield recovers what will they do with him. He was never really kicked out and after Barrett and Gabriel, felt he had the most potential.
As an aside, because of all this developing, I doubt now you'll see Barret vs. Taker. With Kane having no program now, it appears you'll just have another Taker/Kane mania match.

<font color=goldenrod>I don't think the two Nexus groups will interact at all except for maybe a spot during the Rumble match. Looking over the rosters, they're either going to have to put everybody from both stables into the match or use loads of Superstars jobbers to fill out the numbers. My guess is the former.</font>
jkman61494
01-12-2011, 03:01 PM
Well I can definitely see some sort of interaction. First off, I'd put good odds on a few things. If HHH doesn't compete in the Rumble, I'd see Sheamus making a very deep run and having H come out and cost him.
With that being said, I can see Barrett, Punk, Cena and Show all getting deep into this event. Being that you have a 500 pounder and SuperCena, I could absolutely see both Nexus guys trying to eliminate one of them, only to see them both go over a rope. They then begin brawling on the outside.
This would allow Sheamus/HHH program, and a continuation of a Show/Cena/Punk/Barett storyline.
While this is not a Rumble prediction thread, with all that said, I think it clears the way for someone like Del Rio or Morrison to win the Rumble.

Barrett can claim to be the true leader of Nexus as he causes anarchy on Smackdown with Slater and Gabriel, while Punk continues to give Cena headaches with Otunga, Harris and McGillicutty. I just wonder if who will keep 'We Are One'.

<font color=goldenrod>I think they realize that Punk's Nexus is pretty much gonna be fed to Cena anyway, so they sent the members with actual potential to Barrett's side. Gabriel and Slater could be a formiddable tag team as both heels or faces in the future.
Punk meanwhile gets to keep Otunga, who can't do anything right. McGillicutty, who is boredom personified. And Harris, who looked fucking gassed after doing a simple run in on Monday.</font>

Also, the WWE seems to be slowly turning McIntyre face, or will be going somewhere to re-solidify his heel status. Losing to Trent Barreta forces change in McIntyre, and gives the kid a big win. McIntyre doesn't look weak here.

Oh man Wade Barrett's new music is pretty sick, I thought I'd want them to keep the Nexus theme song but this one is pretty sick, love the end of days the world, vibe to it. This new group is like 10x more impressive then any variation of Nexus. Fuck I love Wade Barrett his promo was awesome. He's a heel who has respect for his enemies that's why he goes after them and wants to destroy them, it's the perfect motif for a credible threat like Barrett, it justifies all his acts that might seem cowardly as being smart and effective. He's really credible in the ring, the moments when he ust beat up the Big Show was sick and the image of him, standing over top of Show with the rest oof his grew in formation was awesome.

Another great episode. Feels like they are using less guys than ever but the ones they are using all looking good, liked everyone's role on this show (yes, even JTG). I know I seems like I might love Barrett too much but I honestly think he's the first "quote unquote" toal package heel to come along in the WWE in ages. Not only is he charismatic but he's just got an it quality in his voice he just has amazing presence when he speaks it's like a voice you just can't help but listen to and want to listen to no matter what he's actually saying, he's got impressive size and strength and he's great in the ring to boot. There's really no weakness to him, he's got it all.

I really enjoyed Wade Barrett's promo on SmackDown! this week. I felt it was probably one of the better backstage promos I've ever seen. It's so simple, but his motives aren't bullshit "I'm a bad guy" ones. He justifies his actions. I also liked the way he referred to himself as a "conquering hero." In Barrett's own mind, he is the protagonist of the WWE universe.
For some reason, his new group (which I could see them calling "The Empire"), seemed a weird fit, even though I like both Gabriel & Slater and they've worked with Barrett before. Maybe it's just because they weren't wearing Nexus shirts? Ezekiel Jackson works so much better as a heel, and it makes sense that Barrett would want a powerhouse on his team. Skip Sheffield would have worked if he were still around, but he's out, so Jackson will do.
The main event segment had its moments, but Ziggler seems nervous. I hope he gets his shit together, because this is his chance to really impress. I felt the promo exchanges between Edge and Ziggler could have been better, and more pointed. It's like the World Heavyweight Title is barely an issue. How about Ziggler suggesting to Edge that he's looking into a mirror of himself a few years ago -- only younger, and with more upwards momentum? Something to really play Edge against himself. An old lion vs. young lion sort of thing? Vickie Guerrero was spot-on, and actually better than Ziggler in the promo department. The Edge/Vickie stuff with Edge eventually deciding to Spear Vickie after walking away because she was gloating that Edge couldn't touch her, and the final beat-down on Edge by Ziggler worked really well, though. The final image of Ziggler & Vickie standing tall over Edge while they made out in the same fashion that Edge & Vickie used to, is exactly the dynamic this feud should be reaching for, in my opinion.
I'm a Val Venis mark, but I totally marked out for Cody Rhodes busting out the running short-arm knees off the ropes, followed by the Russian leg sweep. That tag team match was technically good, but I just wasn't into it. I care more about Del Rio than I do the other guys, and although some of Truth's promos occasionally have one really resonating line -- the rest is garbage. Del Rio actually speaks English better than him. I want to see Truth turn heel sometime soon. As a face I just don't find myself caring at this point in time.
I find myself really liking Drew McIntyre, and I hope that his relationship with Kelly Kelly leads him into battle against Barrett's new group. The Nexus took out Vince McMahon, who was championing McIntyre to the people -- plus Kelly has her friendship with Big Show (which has seemingly been forgotten, but still). Trent Barreta getting the big victory over McIntyre was great, but I hope there is follow-up. I'm almost hoping for a Jamie Noble/Chuck Palumbo storyline flip, where Trent Barreta manages to win over Kelly, really getting under Drew's skin more. Trent will still be a babyface, but the antagonist in the story. Or for Trent to beat Drew again next week, and for Drew to offer his hand after the match, instead of beating down Trent.
Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool actually had a really good Divas match, and I hope that the ladies continue to get time and focus. If the Divas Division gets good, that's one less thing TNA has going for them. Then they're down to, like, one.
Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger again had a great match, but I hope we see them move on after this. They've taken their rivalry as far as they can, and I think it's starting to hurt rather than help. Have Tyler Reks move into a feud with Kofi, attacking him after a random match, and saying that he wants the Intercontinental Title. Simple, easy, and I think Kofi and Reks would make a good combination.

Love the direction they seem to be heading in with Barrett and company. Adding to loyalists in Slater and Gabriel makes sense, and Zeke seems to have finally found a role where he can truly exceed. With Wade doing all the talking, Zeke is going to shine.
Noid, I agree with you about the Ziggler/Edge promo a bit. There were some spots in there where Ziggler tried to turn on the intensity. I'll give him a pass just because he's come so far in such a short amount of time. Not to mention, Vickie is there to be the heat machine/mouthpiece. The Zig Zag onto the steel steps was a nice touch.
Also, did anyone else think the crowd was a little dead for the most part? This was pretty good show from top to bottom and the crowd seemed fairly "meh" about it.
Mr. Nerfect
01-15-2011, 05:42 AM
It's a weird time for SmackDown!. They seem to be setting up a lot of stuff, which will all hopefully pay-off well. This week's SmackDown! felt more like a "tune in next week" episode, even though we don't have much confirmed.
Ziggler knows how to promo, don't get me wrong -- his backstage one where he talked about how the fans get behind Kofi because he's a challenger for life was brilliant. I'm sure his stuff is scripted, but I hope he finds way to really hit the right notes more often than not. He does most of his speaking in the ring, and he and Edge have fantastic chemistry, so I hope their program goes over well. But it almost seems like he and Vickie are comedic characters. The beat-down helped wash that away, but I hope both creative and Ziggler step up.

Personally, I don't like Wade Barretts new theme.

anyone else say wow when they saw big zeke scoop slam, and hold big show up with ease? i mean it wasnt as crazy as when goldberg jackhammered him..but was still quite an impressive thing to be seen!
Goldberg jackhammering the Big Show is so overrated as a show of strength. If you've ever given someone a proper suplex, you know why.
Just because it's not physically insane doesn't mean doesn't give a great visual. That's the whole point of wrestling, the visual.

To me, these last two SmackDown's have seemed to really try and hit a homerun with the writing, the matches, etc. Last week arguably had four main events with Kolfi/Dolph, the fatal fourway for the number one contender's spot, Edge/Kane, and Mysterio/Del Rio. This week was a very strong follow up.
On Ziggler's promos, I do agree he has the ability. I think, as of late, Vicky is being given more time with the mic to really bring the heat on the feud. But at some point, Dolph is going to have to take the mic and try to either create or play off of the heat Vickie generates. I love that they're going the ex-wife route with this angle.
And no LJ, you're not the only one who isn't fond about Barrett's new theme. I can't really say I don't like it, since I haven't heard the full track and WWE isn't past changing themes from one moment to the next.
Also, I found it a pretty dumb for Kelly Kelly to be telling McIntyre that she doesn't want to be with a guy who beats people for fun. Um...I'm pretty sure that's what wrestlers are kayfabe paid for. It's nitpicking, but it's a pretty dumb line.

Lol, I still dont think you understand that Goldberg holding up for a whole 2 seconds wasn't about strength, it was about balance.

Wade Barrett using that theme made sense for one night. He wasn't Nexus, and he was on his own. But now that they are a group together, they could just keep "We Are On," or even use Ezekiel Jackson's "Domination" theme.

Bloody hell, I am not at all regretting reading these spoilers. Can't wait to see it!
But think about how much better it would have been to be surprised by all this stuff.
I hate you guys so much.

I agree. That wasn't his point. But I agree.
