View Full Version : Streaming video problem

This has been happening since I got my new laptop. Every now and then I'll go to play a video (usually on youtube, but other flash services as well), and the video will play like this:

All messed up and pixelated. It happens usually only on high def videos, but it doesn't happen all the time. In fact it's fairly rare. And it's certain videos. Like if I restart and try to play the same video, it happens still. But other videos will be fine.

If I drop down to a low quality version of the video it works, but then I'm stuck with shitty low quality. All my flash/java/codecs are up to date, to my knowledge.

Any ideas?

What browser are you using?

Either way switch to Chrome.

Disable flash hardware acceleration (go to a Flash video, right click, settings and uncheck the box)

If that doesn't work, opt into this and see if it improves things:

If it does, then it's flash video that's the issue. No idea why, but at least YouTube will be smoother.

Seems to have done the trick. Cheers. Is this going to have a detrimental effect on the videos I watch though?

Nah. As long as you've got above a Pentium 4, you should be able to watch up to 1080p. Just moves the load from the GFX card to the CPU.

You can try updating your GFX car drivers and re-enabling it if you get any problems.
