I was watching this event last night. and It made me realise did Vince over kill the ending by winning the rumble?. And then letting his spot down the following night?. They hyped it up so much that it was awesome.

What would have happened if Vince would have kept his Wrestlemania spot and went on to face The Rock? suggestions.

Is it still Nexus or NexSES?

It's kind of unbelievable that they wasted a Royal Rumble with a Vince win as they had all those WCW/ECW stars coming over which could have been a huge draw to do something more special geared to their fans.

Are you kidding me? Loved that ending. As much as I still marked for Austin, I was thinking it was obvious he would win after the Corperation attacks and return. Seeing Vince win was great and horrible at the same time but lead to an epic cage match.

Everyone thought Austin would win. Which is why "they" gave it to Vince.

Wait, I thought Austin had to beat him in the cage match for the WM match, not that Vince forefitted.

That stipulation got brought in later on, the following night on raw, when Vince came out and said he would not be competing against The Rock their was an open spot.. Austin appeared at HBK's home on the titan tron, and Shawn then stated that Austin would be the number 1 contender at Wrestlemania.

I personally loved the ending to that rumble. It was predictable Austin was going to come back and win the thing. Vince winning was a nice swerve.

Like the Rumble but everyone knew it was going to be down to Austin/McMahon....i would prefer a group of wrestlers coming to the ring and beat Austin down (even though they did in the toilets), and then Vince eliminating him instead of The Rock distracting him. if that made sense.

My name does not deserve to have the SES at the end because Punk sucks for joining the greatest stable period. Well since The Nation.

I don't know what you're talking about, because this says different (should start around 7:40):

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y858gPkP0ac?version=3&start=460"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y858gPkP0ac?version=3&start=460" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

"And the man who now goes onto WrestleMania - Stone Cold Steve Austin."

Maybe you're thinking of a promo for the stipulation to the cage match?

This. Great swerve and way to extend the storyline.

Austin WAS indeed the number one contender after Vince stepped down since he was the runner up, however, Austin put up that spot to have a cage match with Vince at the next PPV, which is the match that Paul Wight debuted and threw Austin through the cage, solidifying his spot and sending him to the main event of WM 15.

The 1999 Royal Rumble match was alright. I personally enjoy the match but compared to the 1990, 1992, 1997, 2000,2001,2002,2004,2005,2008, and 2010 Rumbles, it's really not as good. The Vince win was pretty cool as I liked both Austin and The Corporation. I think that Vince is 2-1 against Austin. Vince: Royal Rumble victory; Corporate Gauntlet pin Austin: Steel Cage Match at St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

Vince and Shane McMahon also beat Austin in a ladder match at KOTR 1999.

True, so then 3-1 haha. I can't think of another time where Austin match-wise beat Vince. I know psychologically for a while during the Invasion angle he did and he assaulted him physically and emotionally numerous times in storylines, but I think Austin only has one legit victory over Vince and it still isn't by pinfall. In fact, it was by accident he won if you think about it because Big Show threw Austin against the cage and it gave way.

i forgot about that, that was when the winner had to grab the briefcase and when austin went to grab it, it was raised even higher. initially that was supposed to be jericho when he made his debut but that was an angle that never went answered.

I thought it was great. I think the story from Survivor Series 1998 to Wrestlemania 15 is one of the best.

They never revealed who lifted the briefcase either which bothered me.

It was Lock Jaw. He was promised a commissioner spot if he did it and it never came. It's why he sent the Nexus to take out Brett & Vince and became the GM finally.

I thought the ending of the 1999 Royal Rumble match was great. I think that was the third best Royal Rumble match behind 1992 and 2004.
