View Full Version : Something that made me realize how much time has gone by

I was moving some stuff around my house and came across "The Death of WCW" book, and it got me thinking.
There's only 6 guys in the WWE who have wrestled for WCW full time at one point: Goldust, Taker, Regal, Chavo, HHH and Rey Mysterio and only Mysterio having wrestling in ECW, unless you count Lawler.
That made me feel old.

fit arn and dean melinko is still there but backstage
Something that 'gets me' quite often regarding time and wrestling is looking back and seeing the WWF in say 1989 and then in 1993 and the huge difference and how at the time it felt like an eternity given how much seemed to have happened/changed and how if I look back now from the current date the same 3 or 4 years, it seems like yesterday. Dunno how much sense that made.

I look at it every 7 years. Like WM 1 to WM 7 then WM 14. Look how different things will be at WM 28 in comparison to 21 i bet there's less than 5 guys who are on both shows.

That Mania 14 poster is just awesome.
But Hogan was one that was able to go at 1, 7, and showed up at 21.

I feel old when I look at the belts. I remember that one Slaughter is holding, but it seems so long ago...

Well to be fair....
WCW has been dead for 10 years. Same as ECW.

Rey Mysterio has almost been in WWE for ten years. I find that pretty shocking.

I feel nostalgic with wrestling a lot. The other day I was going through some old video games and started playing Shut your Mouth! and Here Comes the Pain. Reminded me of getting those games and being so crazy over the rosters. Just about all of those guys are gone from WWE now with a few exceptions.

Just think, half of the WWE's audience wasn't born when WCW was around.

I watched this the other day

I felt terribly old seeing this, especially as I can vividly recall stocking up on beer and snacks on the night of the PPV. All of the guys in this are gone from the WWE, and have been for a long time.

Goldberg doing that to Brock in that match is still one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in wrestling. Amazing.

1:35 in. If this had been a 'regular' match aka the crowd didn't know both guys were leaving after and weren't trying their hardest to shit on the match, the roof would have come off.
It's crazy to me to think back on how much of my life I've devoted to professional wrestling. I have a lot of VHS tapes in my storage back home, and more than 50% of them are WCW and WWF PPV's from 97 all the way up to about 2007 when I stopped giving a shit. I have stacks of wrestling magazines, plastic bins full of wrestling action figures and some of my favorite memories from Monday and Sunday nights have to do with wrestling.
I think the happiest time in my early teens was Mondays. I would be so pumped up at school knowing that at 8:00 WCW Monday Nitro would come on and that I would be making popcorn, drinking soda, and switching back and forth between TNT and USA while 3-way calling my two best friends who were also watching at their houses. Most amazing feeling that I wish I could get back. Last time I got that excited about anything was when I went to see The Dark Knight at midnight, and even then it doesn't compare.

Jesus
Gold berg has to be one of the 3 most powerful guys in WWE history. Not the biggest, but the strongest.
