For me it was Doug Gilmour. I started loving the Leafs when they were terrible in the 80's and then Gilmour arrived. It was weird seeing a star for my childhood retire. Gretzky turning 50 kinda reminded me of this.
True story, I helped Doug Gilmour move boxes out of Maple Leaf Gardens when I was ten. I went to a leafs game the night before and usually the day after a game people would hang out in the morning and wait for players to get done practice to get their autographs. My day and I were walking to our hotel and all of a sudden we see Gilmour walk out of the Gardens. He had a broken nose so he didn't go on the Leafs road trip. I ran up to him and asked for an autograph. He said sure if I helped him move some boxes. Lol pretty friggen cool.

Felt a bit old when Alan Shearer retired a few years ago as I can remember when he was an exciting young prospect. But definitely Ryan Giggs when he goes.
Also, seeing players who were born in the mid-1990s now turning out for teams is a bit depressing.

Hasek, I remember watching him in a game way back in '93.

Chelios. Remember seeing him play in the early 90s.

None yet. Probably won't feel old until Pujols or somebody retires. If not him then definitely David Wright and Jose Reyes.
I feel more old knowing that most athletes being drafted nowadays are younger than me.

Must have made you feel so old that you butchered the spelling of his name.
Another player and it's weird because I never liked him or any team he was on is Tony Granato.

Julio Franco seems as though he should be on a ton of lists. That guy played forever and a day. I was a baby when he was a rookie. I'd graduated from college by the time he retired.
XCailber, I'll see your Mark Recchi (great shout by the way) and raise you a Jamie Moyer.

this too. I remember people saying that he might end up being the best American-born NHL player EVER when he first started (Modano of course)

I'll feel a bit old when most of the current Wales team retires soon, and I'm only 20. Probably because they didn't reach their heights until quite late in their careers. Martyn Williams, Shane Williams, Stephen Jones... :'( Sad but it's time to move on, those guys have seen better days.

Greg Maddux. Debuted before I was even in pre school, retired shortly after I graduated college...at age 25.
Saw him leave the Cubs and come back 11 years later. You grow up a lot between ages 10-21.

I started following baseball in '95, and as a huge Yankee fan, pretty much my whole sports watching career has had Jeter at the center of it. When he retires, not only will I feel old, but I'll be pretty gutted too.

A little bit with Mike Peca too, but that was injury related. Seeing him on TSN, he still looks like he could be playing.
