View Full Version : Why did they pull the plug on Cena/Punk?

As I am watching Randy Orton and CM Punk go at it, it makes me question what the heck happened to this supposedly epic Punk/Cena storyline.

John Cena looks like he got the best of Nexus, to the point the soldiers want a new leader. They get one in CM Punk who starts feuding with Cena while Punk kicks out Barrett.

Cena then gets injured and they use it on the storyline to further build up heat.

Cena then returns and they have one match on Raw and now all of a sudden you have Punk and Orton going at it. Meanwhile you have Cena taking out most of Nexus in the Rumble when he's now not even the one feuding with them.

Can someone please tell me what is up with all this? Why did they scrap Punk/Cena out of nowhere when it seems they had been building this up for weeks?

Did I miss something here where they somehow ended the feud?

Probably because they are setting up feuds for Wrestlemania. It think with a little deductive reasoning you probably could've figured this one out on your own.

Cena won the Nexus feud basically at RR and now their moving Punk on to Orton. Simple as that

I truly believe it was John Cena who may have asked the plug to be pulled on this feud. The script that was given to him sucked. He couldn't do anything with it, which limited his ability to get into the feud itself.

Having Randy Orton take his place in the battle against the New Nexus only made sense as Orton is a "Heel Face" (for lack of a better word) and can get away with the under handed things that Cena's character just doesn't do.

Seems like poor planning to me.

Like "Oh no! Wrestlemania is coming! Drop everything! We need to get Cena fighting for the title, quick!"

Yeah and that. It's pretty clear Cena's going on to WM to valiantly defeat The Miz and be champ.

Because they don't have anything for the Miz otherwise.

Already feuded w/ Orton, Miz/Morrison for the title isn't a WM main event, HHH will be occupied with Sheamus, fuck all of they put Lawler/Miz on a WM card...and that's it on raw. It's gotta be Cena, and the storyline'll be a great one considering the history that the two have.

As long as they have Punk cut an actual promo on why Nexus ran after Orton, I'll be happy.

Miz/Morrison could have easily been a WM main event if they actually built it up.

Miz/Morrison for the title isn't a WM main event yet

Fixed.

Cole vs Lawler at WM after Cole costs Lawler his chance at the championship at Elim Chamber.

Wouldn't bet the farm on it I think Miz might actually defeat Cena this time as I expect ADR losing depiste his monster push.

I agree it could be a hot feud, and hell, even headline a Summerslam right now, but its not a WM level bout now. Like it or not, WM needs star power at the top...Miz just got there, and Jomo's a notch below that.

Don't get me wrong, I think the two of them work great together, and if they took the title off Miz I'd love to see the two go at it in a feud with a profile similar to Punk/Mysterio last year.

If they're going to main event a WM type PPV, you need to keep the two of them apart, build Morrison on his own, and then have them feud after the two haven't touched each other in a year.

That's my biggest issue here. Contrary to the first post I understand what happened, what I don't get is why it came to this. They built a feud that pretty much had gone on from Summerslam.

Just when the feud appeared over, it gets refreshed with Punk to continue the feud. It seemed destined that they would clash at Wrestlemania with a potential culmination to Cena vs. Nexus.

Then for seemingly no reason, they ended it. Now what was said is true, they needed to elevate Cena to a title position. But then why not just bring Punk in and have Nexus attack numerous people for a month, and then hone in on Orton?

Having them first go after Cena, boot Barrett and tease a Corre faceoff, only to randomly attack Orton screams of desperate scriptwriting. Just seems like a huge letdown to end the Cena/Nexus feud with an epic wimper.

I suppose we should be just glad that the Cena/Nexus thing is hopefully over, after the trainwreck that it turned into by the end.
