View Full Version : met superstars yesterday

Some of you here know that I went to RAW last night. I had great seats - ringside, 10 rows away from the ring, the last row in the section and the row directly in front of the stage area/Titantron. It was the section where Del Rio drove in. I did make a TPWW sign, and several other signs, but unfortunately they didn't get on (a little disappointed about that).

Anyway, I met a few of the wres.... er, superstars, yesterday afternoon as they were pulling into the arena's parking lot and thought I would tell you about them.

Jerry Lawler, John Morrison, Vicki Guerrero, Chad Patton and Mike Chioda, and Tony Garea were all super cool and did autographs for all of us who went there to meet them. Vicki is very lady-like in person, and Chad Patton said, "hey guys, thanks for standing out here in the cold for us... it means a lot to us." I think Tony Garea felt good knowing someone there (me) still remembered him. A lot of the fans who went to get autographs had no idea who he was until I told them.

But the one I was most impressed with yesterday, was EDGE. See, there was a 10-year-old boy who has cancer and was there in a wheelchair with his mother. The kid really wanted to meet Edge, but Edge hadn't seen him yet. As Edge was taking the time to talk to everyone and signing autographs, proving fame hasn't gone to his head, someone told Edge about the boy in the wheelchair. Edge stopped signing for everyone else, went over to the boy (leaving the secured area and going into the group of fans, with security). He shook the boy's hand, was talking to him, took a picture with him, and then gave him an autograph. I was standing right beside them and witnessed the whole thing and it was very, very cool. I have a whole new respect for Edge, because of this experience. I knew Cena was good with special needs kids, but Edge was the same way yesterday.

Jack Swagger was about to come and sign until some fans started jeering him and ruined it for everyone. Then he just turned around and walked away. Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Jack Doan (ref), William Regal, Sheamus, Mark Henry, The Uso's, Mason Ryan and Michael McGillicutty just totally ignored all of us and apparently don't realize that if it weren't for the fans they wouldn't be there. Oh well. Overall, a good day in my life. I just wish I had brought my camera with me.

Which superstars have you guys met, and how were they in person?

I met Goldberg a few months back. He was doing a tour of military bases here in the states and I was lucky enought to get an autograph and a pic. I thought it was kinda funny that a woman next to me in line only knew him as "that guy from the apprentice"

I think that is a very nice story about Edge. I've always respected the guy, and based off of some interviews (ie Off the Record on TSN) I've gathered that he seems to be a pretty down-to-earth guy. Its just good to know that he will take the time to do something nice for the fans that see him every week.

Good job! Kudos to you Edge

Just bought tickets to the Mar 8 Smackdown tapings in Houston. My first live show ever, and my first time to see a WWE superstar as well. Pretty excited, and might well go there a bit early as well. The show says to arrive at 6:30 pm so I figure I will be there around 4 pm or so. Not possible to go earlier than that.

http://www19.ticketingcentral.com/V2/SeatMapImage.ashx?context=1&offer=20024564&v=7&offergroup=20024565

I got section 107, row 11. The ring side tickets got sold almost immediately, probably because the houstonians think Taker and Booker T will be there, and also because it is during the road to wrestlemania as well.

If you're going at 4 to try to meet the superstars, don't bother. I found out yesterday that they arrive between 11AM and 3PM.

I have met a lot of wrestlers but most of them have been at conventions or shows. I frequent FCW shows often so it is easy to meet guys there. I guess when it comes down to it, sometimes the guys just have good and bad days like the rest of us. I remember I met Alex Riley once and he seemed like he was in a shitty mood. When I got home I realized that it was the weekend when he got the DUI.
The 2 most memorable meets I had were with Foley and Edge. It was awesome. The Edge one was specially surreal. I was about 12-13 and I was going to Wal-Mart with my dad. Ironically, I was wearing an Edge shirt. As I am walking around a guy walks by and says "cool shirt man" and I am like thanks. It didn't click but it was Edge. I ran back and talked to him. The best part was that ti was during the 5 second pose period and he was buying a hat. I saw him wearing that hat later on.
With Foley, doing work at Boston Market, he came in once. We didn't want to be total marks about it so we just played it cool. I think he noticed we were talking about him. When he was getting ready to pay he gave us some fucking glare like shit was about to go down. Then he did the Cactus Jack Bang Bang! deal and talked to use for a little bit. It was bad ass.

I interviewed the Beautiful People for an interview last November and they were pretty cool. I also interviewed Justin Credible in October 2007. He said that he wanted to go to culinary college to be a chef, so him ending up in Olive Garden wasn't a big surprise to me.

I know one of the superstars personally and because of that have met Ted Dibiase Jr. and Randy Orton before. Ted was super fucking cool, genuinely a nice guy, great convo. He wasn't Hollywood at all. Randy was cool as shit too but in an assholish way lol. I wasn't a groupie around him, just talked to him real chill and he was responsive to that. Both really cool guys. Randy's great at his character, he can seriously turn it on and off.

Met Jericho once, and I told him he needs to put Cena in the Liontamer, knee on the head, and everything. He laughed but said he wants to keep his job and didnt want to risk injuring Cena. He said that Liontamer would be like Kryptonite. I think I got him to open up by telling him I listened to Fozzy, which I do.

Paul London is INSANE. Brian Kendrick is mad cool. Kofi was cool as shit, genuinely nice guy, so was Dolph, as well as Striker. Cole was kind of a dick, but I think he was just in a bad mood. Trips was really cool. I told him that I stopped watching wrestling from 2003 to 2007 because he was always in the main event with the belt and I knew he was going to go over almost every time. He laughed and said those days are over, he "promised." I met Barrett while he was in FCW, and he was genuinely a nice guy, silly and ALWAYS cracking jokes in the locker room apparently. Same with Miz, but he was cool too.

Really everyone I've ever conversed/met was cool except Cole. Taker was kind of an asshole too, but he wasn't a dickhead, you could just tell he didn't know me and wasn't up for convo at the time.

Oh and Maryse in person....sweet Merciful Jesus. She's nice too. Very down to earth. Ohhh and IRS is a douchebag and I mean that sincerely. Theres more but I'll post em later when I can remember.

Alright a few more

Big Show was really cool, down to earth. We had a talk about guys in the locker room, he said Randy, Cena, Batista, and Mark Henry always do shit for the guys in the locker room. He said it's seriously like a brotherhood past some of the politics. He said Batista, while a super fucking cool guy, loves to bitch all the time. He doesn't nag, just complains. He said Randy and Cena are actually really good friends.

I met Cena. Aside from Ted Dibiase and Kofi he's probably the nicest guy, its pretty much a three way tie. He was in the middle of something and he stopped what he was doing and paid attention to me and my kid brother. My kid brother is a huge Cena fan and still talks about it to this day. Cena was a genuinely nice guy, and since I'm into the music as far as production is concerned, we talked about that mostly. It was cool to see that he genuinely cares; I even told him how much I hated his on screen character, and he vented that the character limits his in ring moveset/persona. He wants to "wrestle" but it somewhat conflicts with the personality of his character. I asked him about a heel turn and he laughed and said "sooner than you think, but you never know" But if it EVER happens, it'll be sooner than I thought lol.

And Christian is fucking funny as shit and so is Santino. Randy and Santino are actually best friends. King was cool. I saw Stephanie and her tits were looking amazing. LOL I went up to Kozlov once and was like "And if he dies. He dies." and he didn't find it funny at all.

R-Truth and I are from the same city and we're both brothers so we had similar stories. I met him and Morrison at the same time, and they were both down to Earth. Somehow I haven't met Edge yet. I saw HBK but didn't speak, he looked busy. Rey was kind of a douche. All of Nexus is cool as shit, but I met them before they were assembled as Nexus. Out of all of them, Tarver and Barrett have to be the funniest, which is ironic.

I think I had the best convos with Cena, Kofi, Ted Jr., Truth, and Triple H. Cena and Trips are wrestling HISTORIANS. Kofi is a nerd but in a dope way; he loves video games and comic books and we both share a distaste for the Spiderman reboot. I was telling Ted how well he did in The Marine 2 and he really appreciated it.

I think thats it...I spoke to Sheamus briefly once...he has the accent, but not nearly as strong and he does say fella, which I completely marked out for. He said "You look a little lost, fella." Nice guy though.

I ran into Joey Styles at a GNC back in 2008, we talked about how some of the things there are overpriced, and about him not calling anything at the Rumble 08.

Triple H held the door for me at Barnes and Noble, didn't click who it was until I said thanks and got in the store.

"Leather jacket, big dude, blonde hair, big nose, oh he held the door for me, that's nice.....holy crap that's Triple H."

My brother in law is a cop in Westport, he actually pulled over Stephanie. SOMEONE doesn't wear her seatbelt.

Smoked weed with RVD at my dorm above the Hammerstein (it is a hotel) on the first One Night Stand. It was pretty cool, we didn't really talk wrestling cause he was with two girls and I had two friends over. We was already pretty drunk and blazed. That's probably my best encounter.

Now I wanna smoke with Kid.

most of you have probably seen my photo album with all the wrestlers, so I'm not going to go crazy here.

Almost did get a picture with Regal a few years ago, he agreed but no one would take the picture, and I didn't do the thing where you take your own picture. It still haunts me.

As far as Edge goes... met this guy 3 times. Back in 02, 09 and 10. Back in 02, he was at this restaurant. A total mark who has stubs for arms and legs was there. Edge, Lance Storm, and Hurricane took all kinds of posed pictures with this guy. It looked good, but as I said, this guy was a mark. He totally bought wrestling characters as real- he was a stubby little man, but the dude isn't mentally handicapped, as months later he went on a rant of how bad of a person Lance Storm was for being in the Un Americans.

In 2009 I met Edge after his TLC or whatever with Jeff Hardy in Chicago. So we saw him, Christian, Truth, Mysterio, Umaga, Jeff Hardy and maybe others at Giordano's Pizza. EVERYONE was signing and taking pictures. Edge wouldn't take pictures with anyone...saying he felt beat up from the match and didn't wanna look bad in his pics. Some guy took one of him signing his ringside chair, and he just kind of called him an asshole but didn't run after him or anything. Guy was a total dick...after he got Edge and Umaga on the chair he bragged and said "IM SELLING THIS ON EBAY!!!!" Umaga said he'd break his glasses next time he saw him, and Edge said he hopes he got 2 cents for it.

And last September I finally got a picture with Edge, who was eating at TGIF with Striker. After the came out they signed and posed for everyone.
Its true that these people are really just people, but regardless of what anyone thinks, an encounter with them can make your day, as Providence Peep is aware of. Congrats on your good luck, and I hope they come back when its warmer.

Probably doesn't belong in this thread, but since we are talking about meeting people and how I mentioned Edge didn't go after the prick selling his stuff, I do have a story about being run down. Not me, but my brother.

We were at the hotel where the Baltimore Orioles stay, and we were waiting for autographs as usual. It was 4th of July weekend, 2007, and someone told us that Devin Hester was walking around. Sweet. Got a picture with him. So then my brother spots at the time Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas. Walking with 2 girls. He asked to take a picture with him, Thomas says no. My brother just snaps a candid shot and Thomas walks up to my brother, asks to see the camera, my brother gives him the camera and he deletes the picture. LOL. Hated that guy since, especially since he sucked.

Nah, very close to Chicago. WWE doesn't run "In Chicago", they run in Rosemont, which is very close to the city limits, but isn't technically Chicago. I also try to meet them if they are in Hammond or Valparaiso, Indiana. Small, house show venues are good for that.

Ive met quite a few wrestlers, even though most at just regular autograph signings. And most have been really cool including Austin, Angle and Jericho were the best. At a TNA show this past October I did meet Samoa Joe and the BP during. And I actually met RVD afterwards.

I was just standing outside talking to a few people and Rob actually was heading back into the building. He stopped, signed and joked around for a few minutes. So he is probably the only wrestler Ive met actually outside of having doing something on his own time.

Met Bret Hart once, just days before Owen died, it was at the 1999 Memoiral Cup in Ottawa he was in town to watch his Hitmen and was in what passes for a box seat at the Civic Centre. During an intermission I went over and the security guard went up and said there was someone who wanted to talk to him, he actually came down to talk to me and one other kid, I got the most face time and actually chatted with him for 10 minutes pretty cool, I totally couldn't tell ya what we talked about.
