View Full Version : Edge thinking about retiring at WrestleMania XXVIII?
Mr. Nerfect
02-06-2011, 01:05 AM
-- Following a successful World Heavyweight Title defense over Dolph Ziggler Saturday night in Toronto, Ontario, Edge announced to the audience, "I might only have a couple more of these visits left in me, and I want to end my career in Toronto. Maybe if Mania is here."
With the rumours that WrestleMania XXVIII will be in Toronto, let the speculation begin here. Hypothetically, Edge were to retire at WrestleMania next year -- who would you like to see him wrestle.
I'm going to start the landslide in favour of Christian now.

I predict that WrestleMania XL will be in New York but not MSG (unless they build a new one that is a huge arena). Vince will be dead by WrestleMania XL and therefore Triple H will do what only make sense, and book it in a huge ass stadium to make more money. Fuck sentimental memories when you can roll around in huge piles of CASH.

How has the SuperDome not hosted a WrestleMania yet? It has hosted almost everything else a stadium that size would host.

Fuck having so much shit in Texas. Three WrestleMania's in Toronto if its there next year?! Thats bullshit. They need a record breaking WrestleMania where they can try to break their own fake record from WM3 soon.

I doubt Vince will be dead in 13 years. He might not be involved with the WWE at all by that time but he probably wont be dead.
And there really isn't a large enough venue in the NYC area that would do it. The best they could do is outdoors at the new Meadowlands stadium but WM being in late March/Early April would mean it would be cold..

Of course the WrestleMania in New Orleans would have this theme song:

Thats why I put it at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. (Only one big enough in NY State)

True, but to think about it, he's been wrestling since 1992, and he's been with WWE since 1998. So, I think 20 years is a pretty good run.

They'd have to have a hell of a WM card for WM to in that monstrosity in Dallas. It would have to feature Cena Vs. The Undertaker for Taker to become 20-0. Cena would be the 2nd most hated in his entire career in that arena for that match. 100.000 Texans ready to rip him a new asshole if they ruin the Walker Texas Taker's record.

I don't think it would be that hard to sell out, especially if you used the massive amounts of seats to your advantage and create 2-3 more ticket price brackets.

I'd have to go with a title match against Christian, come on give him AT LEAST one title run. Edge could then retire after that. Unfortunately, WM28 will also be where the Undertaker reaches 20-0, and whether or not he retires after that, I feel the streak will take away any of the impact of Edge retiring.

If you had a chance to retire before you were 40, espicially from a job that involves so much travel and getting your ass kicked on a daily basis, wouldn't you take the oppurtunity?
Plus 10 time world champ, and what must be nearly 30 titles overall, 99% chance of getting into HOF, what's left for him really? He's put over enough younger talent to not be called a selfish prick, I say go for it...

to me though, there have been so many wrestlers who have made their careers in their 40's that its kinda odd to see someone want to retire before they even got to 40.
As for the Cowboys Stadium, I think Vince would love to outdraw the Super Bowl in that stadium. The extra seats that could be added on the field for the ring setup would probably be able to put them over 105,000 that they're expecting for the Super Bowl. Im not sure if they could do it or not though.

Edge has had a more physical career than a lot of people, and has also made a lot more money than a lot of people. I think he'll be looking to dial it down before he reaches a ridiculous age. He probably wants to go out with style.
And really, what else is there left for Edge to do? The WWE needs to literally invent achievements for him if he is going to do anything new. The man has won every single title currently active in the WWE, has won the Royal Rumble, the King of the Ring and Money in the Bank. He is the first modern Grand Slam Champion. His Hall of Fame legacy is cemented.

With the exception of Batista, recently it seems the starting age seems to be getting lower and lower. Maybe guys who in previous generations had to go through the indys for years now spend 18 months in WWE development and they're ready to go (or not, as the case may be).
I hope this is the way things continue. It's nice to see someone like Edge achieve so much, retire at a young age and go off and hopefully have a normal life. Less Flair endings is good.

He's gotta be banged up from the ladders. Jeff Hardy was able to do it because of the crack...

Exactly (what I said). You're right, they'd have to make stuff up for him now, he lost his Wrestlemania streak, he's already had a crack at Undertaker's and failed... he can't aim to beat Cena, because he's done it too many times already.
I guess all that's left is for him to go to TNA.

This is very interesting, James Steele. Did you get it on-line or are you speculating? And btw, if Edge is retiring at WM 28, then at least I'll always have the memory of having met him this past Monday at RAW. He's a really good guy.

I dunno. Edge seems like the sort of guy who could retire. He'd be back for special appearances and stuff. I don't think he's the guy who will retire and never be seen again, but I don't think he'll be backstage at every show.
I see him coming in and giving people Spears from time-to-time, though.

Edge Vs The Undertaker : Loser retires match.
Taker wins and Edge retires.
This will be good cuz there will be a lot of suspense and people saying "Well Edge is young so he aint retiring and its time for Taker to go" but in a shock, Taker will win after Edge is hurt in a mysterious way (that go along with Taker's gimmick).

No like the lights go out and when they turn back on Edge is throwing up or something cool like that. I know Taker has tone down his superstition lately but it would be cool for him to go all out in this match.

edge seems a bit smarter than the average pro wrestler. the proof of it is that he hasn't been married yet, and he hasn't knocked anyone up yet. because of this, his finances are probably in pretty good shape, unlike his body.
Hes really corny and shit, WWE's equal to Abyss. Hope he stays to his word and retires next yr.
Shame really, as he used to be the most entertaining guy on the roster.

If Edge is in any way serious about retiring at Wrestlemania I would definitely want his last match to be against Christian. Title or not.
And it would be pretty sweet since it's in Toronto. I don't want Edge to retire, but if he's going to actually do it in the next year or so, it is pretty much the perfect scenario.

I'll have to go with sentimental favorite Christian here... sort of. He comes back from his injury (comebacks almost always garner huge pops/pushes), and feuds with Del Rio (naturally). At some point, he gets Alberto to agree to give up his WM spot if he loses. A haughty Del Rio agrees, and in his overconfidence, he ends up costing himself in the match. Meanwhile, Ziggles and Mrs. "Excuse Me!" keep trying to screw Edge out of his title.
Foward to Mania. E&C clash for the title. They tear the fuckin' house down. Christian finally "wins the big one". Next SD!, he loses the title to Ziggler, possibly due to Alberto interference... the only thing I don't see right now is another credible face (not counting guys who don't need it, like Rey or 'Taker) on Smackdown! to balance out that title picture.

I think the best way for Edge to go out would be to have a match against The Undertaker at wrestlemania. Not this one but the next one. Career Vs Streak. Everyone will think Edge will take Takers streak because no one will expect Edge to retire but then the shock happens when Taker wins and Edge retires.
Taker can do a gimmick that reminds everone that Edge, "Came in the darkness" and show clips of Edge coming with the brood and then say, "But I MADE the darkness so I will send Edge back into it" and Edge can say that over the years he became free of the darkness and isnt afraid of Taker's stupid mind games because he is the master manipulator. Edge can then trick The Undertaker a few times and then Taker tricks Edge and they make the stip match where whoever loses is the end of their carrier.
During this feud Taker can even enlist Christian to hurt Edge where Christian comes out with a dark look in a white shirt like he was in the Brood and attacks Edge. Not Gangrel tho cuz hes mad fat today.
Taker wins, Edge retires, all is good.

That maybe how long we have to wait before WWE see's sense and pushes Christian. I'm not surprised by this news though as i'm sure he's said something similar before.
