View Full Version : Has a feud ever ended without a match?

The whole Punk/Orton thing got me wondering this. In real life, surely Orton could have just said to Punk 'Ok, you're actions are justified. I attacked you two years ago and cost you the belt. Eye for an eye. Good for the good etc.' Feud finishd with no further violence.
Of course in the WWE Universe what happens is that Orton totally refuses to respond to the crime he committed two years ago and just focuses on how he was wronged. Cue: rivalry.
So, you know my question, and you know my reasoning behind it.
Answer it.

There might have been feuds cut short due to injury, but I don't think there's ever been one without a match. It defeats the purpose entirely.
Triple H and JBL had a brief 'clash' at Wrestlemania 21, which looked to be setting up a feud.
Also Triple H returned in 2002 and went after Jericho, despite WWE setting up a HHH/Stone Cold feud months earlier....

Didn't WCW have a bunch of feuds that ended up being dropped without a match???

Was gonna say that too. The WCW feud never had a match but I think the WWE feud did.

Bryan vs Cole/Bryan vs Ted Jr.
(the match on RAW doesn't count... their feud over the US title just kinda dissolved; as did DiBiase's "winless streak" storyline, even though he gets called a loser weekly by Mariyse. This is one of the reasons why people clamor for JR to call matches, little attention to details like this or selling the guys in the ring.)
Not trying to turn this into another Danielson slurpfest, just sayin'... no match.
I also vaguely remember a Billy Gunn (during "The One' period) feud that was kind of a big deal up until it suddenly wasn't. I think that whoever it was got future endeavored and they had no plans for Billy past that. I don't recall too clearly, though. The only thing I remember is that the angle kind of just "stopped".
Also, that one guy who was supposed to debut against the Undertaker. That guy didn't even walk to the ring and have ANY match, let alone against the deadman.

I think you mean Mordacai, he had a match with Hardcore Holly who stiff/sandbagged his way through it and ended his feud with 'taker before it got started it was so piss poor.

Bryan and Ted had a PPV match for the US Championship at the Survivor Series. It didn't dissolve Daniel Bryan won the feud.
Eddie Guerrero vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin is one that I remember distinctly. Eddie beat Austin down in a bar and had a PPV match scheduled for him at the King of the Ring in 2002. Austin took his ball and went away screwing Eddie in blow-off match with Ric Flair instead.

If I remember correctly, the feud with the Undertaker wasn't even teased. Everyone knew Mordecai was being built up to face Taker at some point in the future through the dirtshirts, but it was never made overtly clear on television. In fact, in his last promo Mordecai hinted at directing his wrath against those who lie, cheat and steal, which suggests that Eddie was his next feud. That definately never happened.
Do I get bonus points for mentioning Hade Vansen though?

Clearly set-up to feud with the Undertaker.

Pretty sure Bam Bam and Tazz had a short-lived thing when he first debuted in ECW, but never got a full match. Might be remembering that wrong, though.

HBK and Rock. Michaels superkicked Rock on the very first ever Smackdown to cost him the WWF Title, but I guess due to HBK still being on the sidelines and Rock leaving shortly after HBK came back, they never resolved this "feud" in any way.

He also 'screwed' The Rock at Judgement Day 2000.

They had multiple matches. One at Heatwave 98 where Taz DDTs Bam Bam through the entrance ramp and the aforementioned Living Dangerously 98 where Bam Bam and Taz go through the ring

They eventually had matches, but that was a "different" feud. He joined with Candido and Douglas and finally worked his way through the roster.
He had a MMA match after the initial feud. Might be splitting hairs, but there was a break between the first interaction (or at least that's how I recall it). I believe it was about a year after Tazz initially choked him out after his debut.

Was there ever an actual match between Papa Shango and the Ultimate Warrior?
