Around what time/era was wrestling found out to be fake? Yes it has always been fake, but when was it known to most people that it was.

My dad has a real old poster of all the sports with a brief history on them. On this poster there is a picture of Macho Man and 3 sentences describing professional wrestling.

1950s for promoters when they gained the ability to televise their shows and found out the crowd liked characters over technical wrestlers.

Probably late 1980s to early 1990s for everyone else since the Attitude Era and other promotions (ex. ECW) tried to rebel against the cartoony characters and storylines and promote a hardcore or more brutal style wrestling.

Professional wrestling got its start in late 1800's, maybe early 1900's...I can't remember. I did a paper on it when I was in junior high.

It was pretty much what the UFC is today. Was real at the time.

When it started being shown at carnivals and stuff, it was scripted/fake.

I remember being young and arguing with my sisters about it being real. I would always use the powerbomb as an example as to how it "Can't possibly be fake!"

...I was such a mark.

I'll be honest... watching ECW made me think it was real for a period of time

I always thought TV exposed it to the public, but it was always accused of being worked even during the carnival days hence the reason guys like Gotch, Thez etc got the belts, given they were legit.I'm sure Funks book went on about guys having to have legit shoot backgrounds back then to get into the business to keep up the pretense. The cartoony shit in the 80s just confirmed what most folk already knew.
