Mistico.
WWE just put up this article about him. Any thoughts on the new name?
STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE today unveiled their latest Superstar signing, Sin Cara, formerly known worldwide as Mistico. The announcement took place today during a press conference in his hometown Mexico City, where passionate fans of all ages turned out to see their favorite performer become the newest addition to the WWE roster.
Having already forged a strong international fan following, Sin Cara, known for his high flying style and awe inspiring acrobatics, is expected to reach new heights of global success with WWE.
“Sin Cara is a tremendous performer who brings the crowd to its feet every time he steps into the ring,” said Stephanie McMahon, Executive Vice President, WWE. “With us, his stardom will only get bigger and brighter.”
Upon his signing, Sin Cara said, “WWE is the pinnacle of sports-entertainment. It is an honor and a thrill for me to be able to perform with the world’s best. Being a WWE Superstar will present new challenges, new mountains to climb and new competition. It is a new beginning and a new life. With that in mind, I have chosen the new name of Sin Cara in hopes to represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers and to carry the banner of their legacy to the entire world.”

Well, that sort of makes sense I guess.
Apparently, his name change is to "represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers".
Well, they all wear masks, so they don't have a face because of the masks.
So "Sin Cara" it is then.

This obviously lead to Del Rio winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27 and going on a huge dominant 2-year reign as they build up Sin Cara all the way to WrestleMania XXIX at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico in front of over 100,000 fans in which the great hero Sin Cara will finally defeat the evil Alberto Del Rio. CM Punk is cutting a promo in the ring. Song plays…pyro, Sin Cara comes from the floor (similar to Gangrel). Punk goes nuts. He can’t believe it’s HIM. Sin Cara walks calm and cool…stares at him. Punk, in shock, runs.
I can dream. Of course it won’t happen, but it could work.

I like this. The name change makes sense. He's representing all masked luchadors, so it's a name about masks -- how they take away the face. The way the WWE are making a big deal out of this signing makes me think he's going to get a big push out the gate. Post-WrestleMania, I'd expect Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from whoever the champs are.
The WWE is apparently doing huge in Mexico, and bringing in Mistico and pushing him to the moon is not going to hurt matters. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sin Cara, in some ways, might be one of the biggest matches the WWE could run.

First of all, I totally support this choice as Mistico is obviously a huge deal in Mexico and I want WWE to get bigger and bigger. Second of all the name Sin Cara is MUCH better than Mistico in my opinion. Plus Mistico/Mysterio is a little similar. Sin Cara is a pretty sick name. This guy looks like he will be a lighting bolt for WWE, Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio might be the next Eddie/Rey at Halloween Havoc at some point down the line.

CMLL owns the name. Not really a problem. He would’ve had to get a name change anyway, since Mystico is too close to Mysterio.

I, too, mark out for the hurricanrana where Cara just lands on his feet like "Yeah, what of it?" I didn't get too excited by the spotty video. There are plenty of guys who can do that shit. What I will be looking at is his ability to tell a story in the ring. The WWE is apparently skipping him past developmental. There must be some plan on exactly how to use him. But what it will come down to is how great his overall matches are. At the top level, anyway.
I have a feeling that Sin Cara might be bogged down by the same problems that weigh down Mysterio in some people's minds. Cara might end up only as good as his feud. If he's just flying around aimlessly, people might be inclined to overlook his talent. I'm looking forward to seeing Sin Cara work with Rey Mysterio, Cody Rhodes, Alberto Del Rio and John Morrison, though.

Makes sense since Smackdown has the larger Hispanic demographic for viewers than RAW.
Unlike in the past where the WWE only had Mysterio as their main luchadore or Hispanic wrestler, this time they now have a good heel and potentially a good face as a way to sell to Hispanic viewers. So if Sin Cara or Del Rio gets hurt or needs time off, they have the other to push and don't need to worry about loosing that group of viewers.

Isn't the WWE doing really well in Mexico, or something? I'm reading now that SmackDown! gets something like an 8.3, whereas RAW got an 8.5. So is that stuff about SmackDown! having the larger Hispanic audience really true? If not, then the WWE could easily put Sin Cara on RAW, and have Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio on SmackDown!, and really try to boost both shows.

It's like seeing a fresh, rejuvenated Mysterio in his prime!! I am very impressed! He doesn't just look like a dirty spot money to me although that made me smile he appears to bring much more than that to the table unlike most wrestlers I see on Youtube.
To me Mistico looks like he's a big fish that's become too large for the Mexican wrestling pond he appears to be very talented, gives his all in every match (that I have seen) and comes across as being very ambitious.
His dream like many others in Mexico now is to make it to the WWE how times have changed. Guerrero and Mysterio have paved the way for wrestlers like Mistico and it's good to see.
I think the guy will do well he looks like a great performer, I really think he'll be a main eventer within 2-3 months. This guy is going to get the Del Rio treatment mark my words this is going to be a big deal not another Ultimo Dragon that's for sure. Although hey I will give Ultimo Dragon credit he could go in the ring but they never treat him like a big deal or main eventer in my eyes.
I really can't wait to see this guy in high profile one on one matches with the likes of Del Rio, Mysterio, Swagger, Punk, Danielson and Edge. I really think those wrestlers will bring the best out of Mistico.
Can Mistico work with the big guys such as Taker, Kane and Big Show? That remains to be seen. Mysterio has good matches with Taker and Kane but they are never jaw droppingly good they are usually just above average compared to Mysterios usual opponents.
Can't wait to see the guy go at an event like Wrestlemania giving his absolute best. I think he will become a one man highlight reel if they let him go.
Good luck to him.

Yes, because WWE has employed so many luchadors over the years.
There's been one luchador pushed to the main event: Mysterio. He got over with fans.
WWE caters to younger kids who like bright colours and cool moves. He'll get over fine if given the opportunity. And given the fed's treatment of him before he's even debuted, I'm guessing he'll be pushed to at least IC title level right away. I don't think we're looking at another Essa Rios here. Yet.

The thing is, now more so than ever, with the WWE marketing to little kids, they have the power of suggestion. They can tell the WWE audience what they like and what they want to see. If the WWE wants Sin Cara to succeed, he will.
More so than ever, I am kind of hoping that he shows up on RAW. He'd stand out more there, as opposed to seeming like "Rey Mysterio II" on SmackDown!. On the other brand, it sets up Sin Cara as almost a parallel to Rey, which can fuel "dream match" ideas in people's heads. Plus, there is no shortage of people for Sin Cara to defeat en route to building him up. Matches with Primo, Zack Ryder and Tyson Kidd (probably in that order), would not only deliver, but could get Sin Cara' offense over quite nicely. A match against Regal may not be as pretty, but would certainly be interesting, and would test the waters for how well Cara can work different styles in the WWE.
And to be honest, if he's going to feud with a main eventer out the gate, why not have it be CM Punk? He's the smallest of the WWE's top-level heels, and he can work an amazing match and do the talking for two men in a feud. Del Rio vs. Sin Cara is obviously going to happen, but why blow that out the gate? Seeing Cara build up victories against yours David Otungas, Mason Ryans and Michael McGillicuttys could also be impressive, too. Teaming with Randy Orton would instantly get him over, as well. Not as a permanent team, of course -- just in one of those weird RAW duo matches to combine storylines.
During that feud, you can also do Daniel Bryan vs. Sin Cara for the US Title, which ends when the Nexus attacks both men. That can set-up a big PPV tag team match between Orton, Bryan, Cara and someone else against CM Punk and his Nexus. In that environment, I think Cara would really shine.
I could see Dolph Ziggler & Vickie Guerrero showing up on RAW at any moment, too, and Sin Cara vs. Dolph Ziggler would be insanely fun.
Also, assuming they do the draft again (and why wouldn't they?), I'm not entirely unconvinced that Alberto Del Rio won't end up on RAW. The WWE treats him as a pretty big deal, and pretty big deals in the WWE usually go to RAW sooner rather than later.

I did one of those the other day on accident.

Sin Cara (aka Mistico) will be brought right up to the main roster without developmental time. CMLL said that they are retaining the rights and will be eventually putting someone else under the mask as Mistico.
I figured CMLL had the rights to the name. One of the Mexican RAW’s announcers posted the following on Twitter: “Sin Cara (ex Mistico) will be on TV starting next week, and RAW and SmackDown will fight for him!”
This could be an interesting angle for Sin Cara’s debut, with the anonymous RAW General Manager and Theodore Long trying to woo him.

Cole: "And I quote..."
:facial expression dropps from haughty to disturbed:
Cole: "I think you're a very... handsome... man? Ive sent flowers and candy to your hotel room?? I want to peel your mask back and..." OKAY, I'M NOT READING THIS!!!"
:sits back down flustered:
That's your least pretentious post yet, DL. Although I think we all get that Mistico has worked in Mexico.
I also added Japan, due to the fact he wrestled in NJPW, due to their talent exchange program (a la the NJPW-WCW relationship).
Only better.
Mistico is...
13-year veteran (wrestled since 4/30/98)
28 years of age (born 12/22/82)
Extensive experience overseas (in China and in Japan)
His finisher, La Mistica, is a Headscissors takedown-turned-single arm DDT-turned-Wakigatame
Undefeated in wager matches.
Spoke too soon there Noid, eh?
Anyone care to post a full match of Mistico/Cin Cara's? That YouTube video didn't impress me all that much (aside from the "land on feet hurricanrana" of course).

WWE seems like they are gonna make a big deal about Sin Cara so I think it would be a good idea to have his debut match at WrestleMania. Evan Bourne would be a great opponent. I think it would make WrestleMania a little bit more special. What do you think?

I get the feeling that for the first few of his matches, he'll be doing stuff like he did in the promo. Mostly just to get the people into him and to build a fanbase for him with the targeted WWE audience. (Kids)
After that, we won't see any of that stuff.

From what ive heard CMLL plans on using the Mistico name still by just putting someone else under the mask like thas been done for Tiger Mask ,Black Tiger ect. That probally explains the name change and the tweeking of the mask.
Also in Mexico Mistico is a a huge deal. Even has his own energy drink.

I have seen Mystico wrestle many times over the years while I was living in Cancun... he was a pretty good face, a BADASS heel in recent years and goes over well with the fans there... Of course that is in Mexico... He is def a carbon copy of Rey Jr. Although not as good as WCW Rey... CMLL Owns the rights to his Mystico name but it's not like WWE can't buy that from them..

No, because in that video he hit a few high spots and that is it. I'm not saying he's a bad wrestler or anything, I'm merely making the point that in that video he dosen't do any actual wrestling.
We can't see from that how he works a match, if he can sell, tell a story, any sort of 'chain' wrestling.
You are an utter moron, don't try and tell me what I think. now piss off.

For fuck's sake, don't split hairs. Did you think I was saying he had an actual full match in his promo or what? Of course not. It's a 2 minute sizzler, of course they're gonna highlight the flashy stuff. Doesn't automatically make him a spot monkey.
If you wanna split hairs, then fucking next to nothing that happens in pro wrestling is actual wrestling, and that includes selling and telling a story.

To those disputing my claims of him going no where, I give you but one piece of evidence:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g122/sandman3g/Ultimo_dragon_l.jpg
I disagree. Not only was that a different time, but I think Sin Cara is way more marketable.
One of the biggest problems with Ultimo's run in WWE is that they expected him to be another Rey, and he's just not. It was a superficial expectation.
Plus they're bringing Sin Cara in with no real track record. Ultimo was in WCW which had ramifications.
Really, I can understand why people are skeptical about another lucha being successful in WWE, but I think it's very likely that he will be.
If only just for the reason that Rey has proven himself to be a main event draw and cash cow, and he's winding down.
It's obvious that they would like to straight up replace him, and they've found their guy I think.
They just need to get him over initially and it's off to the races. I don't see that being too hard.
Luckily, they're not trying to pass off a watered down cruiserweight division anymore so they can put him right out there with the midcarders and Mysterio and skip the bullshit.

The mask looks great too. I think that's honestly a major part of him getting over. It's going to be his image and identity, and lucha masks tend to look generic and low quality.
This one has something cool about it that's highly marketable and doesn't come off as a parody.
It manages to be like Rey's in that it's a traditional mexican mask, but also has a modern mainstream look to it.

Difference between Ultimo coming in and Mistico is where the WWE business is these days. Most of the revenues come from the international markets (a lot from Mexico), so pushing diverse talent is a key for them.

he'll get over for sure. Looks like the WWE wants to push him hard. The guy is not going to be a top guy, but he will be that crowd pleaser (like Evan Bourne) that will get everyone pumped. He's a great market towards the younger crowd and will obviously be over in lot of Internaitonal markets.

I sure that along the way Vince may consider replacing Rey with Sin Cara. While Mysterio is still pretty popular with the crowds it's obvious he's not moving around as well as he use too, and with all respect should consider taking some lengthy time off.
I've only seen a handful of Mistico matches but so far he's impressed me and I'm looking forward to his arrival.
Also, I must be in a Kamen Rider mood because I could swear his mask is a play off of Knight's mask from the Ryuki (a.k.a. Dragon Knight) series.
