I googled the question first to no avail. I turn the question to the TPWW's collective memory.

Jarrett's contract was expiring while he was the IC Champ and he refused to drop the belt even though he was jumping to WCW where Russo would push him as a main eventer. He ended up forcing McMahon to pay him a shitload of money to work without contract so he could get the belt off him the day after his contract ran out. If Vince hadn't paid him off Jarrett would have showed up on WCW Nitro the following night with the IC title and most likely would have trashed it.

this is vinces fault, just like with bret. why the fuck does he let people hold belts during the last month of their contracts?

What Ultra Mantis said.

It was $500,000, and I'm sure that story is on one of the WWE DVD's, maybe Rise & Fall of WCW.

He played the guitar for Linda McMahon and then when that made her wet he fucked her. As she orgasmed he smashed the guitar over her head.

he held Vince up for money..... pretty much simple as that.....

It's not on that DVD. I've never seen that tale on any DVD actually. I'd guess JJ isn't important enough for that much of a mention.

Jarrett does get a mention on the Rise & Fall of WCW DVD though; Mike Graham says "he broke 6,000 guitars, and never drew a dime... he really thought in his little Tennessee brain that he was bigger and better and would draw more money than Hulk Hogan."

This is the beginning and end of Jeff Jarrett as far as I'm concerned.

He's probably seen Double J wrestle.

Good point, but in Vince's defense how can he assume that a certain wrestler is going to jump ship at the end of their contract. I mean, it's not something you want to talk about to your boss because then he'll just throw you in the shit for the last remaining weeks of your job.

I could never see Jarret as a Maineventer

Back in 1999, I was a huge Jarrett mark. I thought that Vince was really high on him...and after Owen's death, I'm not sure anybody would have really begrudged him being pushed to the main event. Felt like they could have gained the sympathy vote (much like Rey Mysterio after Eddie).

I also get the feeling Jeff Jarrett has a huge ego and doesn't care who he pisses off because he knew in the back of his head, if he ever burnt all his bridges he can always go back to daddy to get a job and create some bush league promotion like TNA where he can push himself to the moon.

He and his father don't get along

The dollar figure was $150,000. The story is in Wrestlecrap Rise and Fall of WCW book.

All of this and the fact that he founded a competing company against wwe. A somewhat flop at this point but competition is competition nonetheless...

Simple answer is because he's a douche. :)

Wasn't there some rumor or story that stated Vince wanted to push Jarrett as a viable heel against Austin during his initial title run, and Austin vetoed it? Remember hearing that somewhere.

Ultra Mantis

I've heard that too. Since Russo was head of creative, the idea to push Jarrett hard over Stone Cold would likely have been all his and not McMahon's.

It wasnt pushiong him over Austin, it was doing a program to elevate JJ

Austin didnt want to because he didnt feel JJ was on his level.

There is also the fact that Austin didn't like double j. Back in Jeff's dad's promotion, Jeff treated Austin like shit. So Austin didn't want to work with Jeff.

Back in the WCW/WWF days I hated Jarrett. I can respect what hes done with himself creatively in TNA...

It probably has a lot to do with how JJ is horrible in the ring and on the mic.

Serious thought, is it because Jeff's dad is one of the only people Vince couldn't buy out when he buying out all the territories?

Which is...? Lucky meet and greet with a sugar mama who has a shit load of money, talk her into opening a federation and then booking himself to the moon and still not be responsible for not putting one ass in the seat?

Maybe somebody could post a legendary JJ match or an epic promo. I've never seen one.

Vince hates Jarrett because Double J wanted to use the WWF to elevate his country music career.

Honestly, in 1999, Vince should have beat the living shit out of Jeff when he stood him up for money and taken the belt from him. Vinny at 250 lbs would've wrecked J-A-Double R-E-Double T in about 2 seconds in a shoot.

It's a matter of pride than it is money with Vince. He'll shell out any amount of money just so it doesn't make him look bad.
