A shorty but a goodie in the next episioe he needs to visually have "WWE dopping the ball" on Zack Ryder he is the definition of Sports-Entertainment.

I though it was missed the boat anywho the "Major Broskis" lost on Supestars this week and I didn't realize this but they are the youngest tag team champions ever in WWE according to Stanford.

Londoner

WWE needs to put this guy on tv. They're going to miss the boat, possibly on purpose, so when he finally gets some tv no one will care. They just don't want him to get over.

If his show goes to WWE.com would it still be as awesome? Sure, he'd have higher production, but I don't know if they can capture the same spirit

Don't even give them that idea! You're right I think, the 'spirit' wouldn't be there and WWE would fuck it up somehow.

As daft as it is, I would guess if this gets moved to WWE.com, that's about as far as he'll go. Any success/credit off the back of it, they can just attribute to themselves and WWE.com's traffic, especially if they still don't want to do anything with him and he wouldn't really be able to argue against that, his #1 selling point wouldn't be 'all his own work' anymore.

Didn't think it was the best one actually. Sure, it was enjoyable, but it'd be great to see some more jibes in there (like the "I can draw money" or "drop the ball" bits).

Anyhoo, i got my anchor to say "Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter, and tune in next week..." (yeah, we don't have T-shirts and can't spike our hair - it's business news television for godsake).

I hope he gets the show moved to wwe.com. Sure, it did nothing for Colt Cobana, but no-one other than a few of us IWC nerds cared about him anyway. On the other hand, some of the success of the Miz must be attributed to the Dirt Sheet series. Someone high up saw potential in the Miz in one of the eps, and gave him the ball. Obviously, he's done a lot on his own since then to get to where he is now, but it could have all started with those videos.

Triple Naitch

The thing I love most about ZTLIS is that it's just him doing the whole thing himself on iMovie. If it gets moved to wwe.com then it will take away the low-budget cheesiness of it that I love.

Whilst those little digs are my favourite parts of the series, I thought it was pretty damn good episode. The "game show" had me in stitches. It was much better than some of the eps that were called "Best One Yet". IMO of course.

Huh, so that's why he's been with Cena the last few weeks in promo's leading to Cena's entrance, getting Ryder's shirt, fist pumping, and saying what's up on TV. (Which if WWE truly thought Ryder wasn't worth it, they wouldn't have made a shirt for him.) He's getting over huge on the net, the fans prove it as well on Live RAW. Obviously WWE thinks there is something there for him.

I think you're just jealous you aren't Zack Ryder.

XL
06-03-2011, 03:37 AM
I think he's starting to gain momentum. The shows popularity has carried over into the arenas. There is no way that the WWE brass haven't seen the signs in the crowd week in, week out. These are only small steps but with his show likely going to wwe.com and the constant linking of him with Cena on-screen (which I actually think is Cena's doing, so props to him) I see the Ryder Revolution happening soon.

guys remember how The Rock started out, he looked like a goofball with curly hair, comical eyebrow, $500 shirts, elvis sideburns, and was fat and had man boobs but he evolved into Dwayne Johnson

Zack Ryder is on the right path TO GREATNESS. As long as his work ethic is good and his attitude is good, I see him eventually evolving from goofball guido into bonafied main event stud

Also anyone notice Big O howling like a banshee?

you gotta take the top stars of today and rewind their careers and take a look at them when they first started out

Z Ryder needs to make sure he keeps his material fresh prevent it from getting stale though

They never had comedy gimmicks though. Much tougher to get out of a comedy gimmick, especially if it becomes popular.

I understand. But didn't Rock do comedy? I see no problem with Z doing comedy, it just needs to be a slow progression. Like it might take 3 years but Rock in 97 slowly evolved and peaked in 2000. Hell, Rock was doing comedy his whole career. Z just needs to stop making himself the butt end of all the jokes though and slowly start making fun of his opponents. This will come as time goes by. Z just needs to find a perfect blend of comedy and seriousness when he gets to the main event spot

Also, Big O needs to get signed...NOW. I don't care if he's not a wrestler. Just throw him in front of the mic and call it a day. He's got more charisma in his pinky finger than most of the guys on the roster combined

Also, I'm not a big fan of Curt Hawkins..."The Party Starter". He's copying Shawn Michaels "The Showstopper" with that shit. Plus he's turning into a bitter Matt Hardy. He should be careful

XL
06-08-2011, 10:16 AM
I don't recall Rocky Maivia being a comedy act before he became The Rock. As The Rock he may have done comical promos but he wasn't a "comedy act" like Ryder or Santino.

I think it's a stretch to compare the two.

Even to compare him to HHH - who was doing out and out comedy as part of DX - is a stretch as the comedy was a different style.

The Naitch
06-08-2011, 10:53 AM
admit it though, when blue chipper Rocky Maivia came out with that curly hair and blue ribbons he might as well have been a comedy act

ok you win

what I meant was that even though Ryder is a comedy act, he could still slowly progress to where he starts making fun of his opponents (instead of himself) and as long as he has the fan base, they will embrace Z as he evolves. He could be WWE's version of The Situation a few years down the line. WWE superstars are essentially characters. Z has the look and the size. Big O will be the Mankind to Zack's Rocky. The Goldust to Booker T.

I can eventually see Z as a serious character who will frequently still do his "classic" references from time to time for nostalgia purposes

XL

I agree that Ryder has the skill set to step up. Hell, I think this thread proves that a lot of people here do. I also think that someone at WWE has caught on too. He may have lost on Raw but he had a decent showing and man did they push the hell out of his YouTube show - despite having no official connection to it at the moment.

I get what you're saying, that someone who wasn't taken all that seriously (Rocky Maivia) can become someone mega successful and in that you're right.

He did look good in the loss, and I'm glad for Z's sake that they didn't take the easy route and have Dolph interfere. That would have completely killed any momentum that Zack built in the match. He's currently at a "this close" to getting over on the more casual fans who haven't seen ZTLIS.

Z is gaining so much momentum, soon every superstar will wanna be "associated" with him in some shape or form.

Calling it right now: Z Ryda will be the next biggest star since John Cena. Back then people were posting threads asking "Who do you think will be the next big star after John Cena?" Some people said so and so and some people said this person is not in the WWE yet. Well folks, the answer is right under our noses. And his name is Zack Ryder. I predict him main eventing a WrestleMania in a couple of years

Only thing he has to worry about is staying fresh and being able to evolve his gimmick once the whole Jersey Shore craze lays to rest. Like I said before, as long as his loyal fanbase continues to grow and stay in tact, he will be hard to ignore. And he's not like RVD in 2001, he is homegrown talent so I see no reason in Vince trying to hold him down. Let's just hope guys like Curt Hawkins doesn't hold him back. Z Ry has the right attitude and the business smarts, so it's only a matter of time. Plus he could work well as a heel and a face.

I don't even know if I could go to sleep. Might as well stay up and pull an all-nighter waiting for the new episode

Also just look at guys like Mankind and Big Show. In their initial phases, at first look, you would've never thought they'd be in a main event match at WrestleMania.

<font color=goldenrod>From Wrestling Observer:

Meltzer was texted during the show by a WWE employee stating that the reason Zack was not on the show is because "Vince hates the internet". Backstage, many, many people were upset that the person getting the most chants throughout the night was not brought out for a promo or even a quick appearance in his hometown who clearly wanted him there. Meltzer got some more information today on the thought process.

Evidently, it was indeed a rib/joke being played on Zack. Zack had spent his prior show talking up how he was in his hometown, how excited he was, how this could be his chance to finally shine and move up on the card. Zack was told a few days ago he would have a promo and a match on RAW and would turn face on RAW, even being able to acknowledge his youtube show and Internet Champion gimmick. This is why Zack was so excited the past few days.

The rib went so far as there was even a fake script and timeline alloted for Zack to come out and wrestle, besides Superstars, with his RAW promo and on air face turn. When the time came close for this to happen, Zack was informed plans changed and he would not be on air. This was literally during the broadcast. The entire rib was Vince's idea and was because Vince is not a fan of the "bashing" Zack does about WWE and sees it as "giving in" to someone who is visibly bashing the company with "dropping ball" clips, etc.

Meltzer comments that the real joke is on the fans, as the reaction to him not being on air is not pretty and as the rib is being revealed, even less people are happy. Multiple wrestlers have stated their public displeasure with the rib and John Cena was said to directly confront Vince over the situation and what he felt was a poor joke.

- After WWE failed to book Long Island native Zack Ryder on Monday's episode of RAW from the Nassau Coliseum, WWE star Dolph Ziggler went on Twitter and said the company "kicked [Ryder] in the nuts."

Former WWE star Chris Jericho is the latest person to speak out about Ryder being left off television in front of his hometown crowd. Jericho tweeted on Tuesday:

"So LAME that WWE didn't include @ZackRyder on Raw last night. No reason not to!! Wrestling is supposed to be FUN remember? Time to riot..."

Zack Ryder commented on the situation, but was careful not to come off as bitter .. He wrote:

"I wasn't on Raw...(besides all the Ryder signs and chants)...but you can catch me this Thursday on WWE Superstars."

Wade Barrett showed support for Ryder as well on Tuesday, tweeting, "WWWYKI."

I knew it would come off like this. Ryder was getting over on his own, off the company's time. The company wasn't controlling him. He WAS constantly making inside remarks, including in his videos. WWE wants power. The people who don't rock the boat have a better chance at getting a push than someone like Ryder. Ryder needs to tone it down if he wants to keep his job.

Do I think it's right that he's THIS over, 99% because of the internet, that he gets the shaft? Of course not. It's asinine and they're missing the boat with him. But if you're in WWE, you don't do stupid shit. And from a company perspective, with the way they run it, he was doing something stupid.

Agreed.

No doubt the guy has done great for himself when he hasn't had anything in the way of TV time. If you can get a following like Ryder has by doing your own internet shows that's pretty impressive. Would it translate into sustained success if he eventually got on TV? I don't know. I sure hope so. At the worst, they push him and it doesn't work. It's not like they're risking much. If they turn him face they could use him on RAW for sure.

XL
06-14-2011, 11:08 PM
I thought the "bitching" was pretty tongue-in-cheek and wouldn't have ruffled any feathers. He's hardly a Matt Hardy or even a Carlito. He still gives his all whenever he is featured and comes across as a guy that, whilst I'm sure he's annoyed by his constant lack of use, takes it on the chin.

Hopefully this "rib" could ultimately be the making of him. If he stays quiet and just takes it.

Either way, I don't see why Vince is so butt-hurt about a guy that goes out and creates his own following. Kinda similar situation with the "Vince hates Christian"thing, if you have a guy that its over inspite of the booking (or lack there of) just go with it and see where it goes. I mean, they didn't PLAN on Austin being the success he was, it just happened and they capitalised on it.

I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that he got over on his own. As much as I love the show if he wasn't working for the WWE nobody would really give a shit about his internet show.

It's a popular show because it's funny and because it features a WWE superstar (despite one not on tv that much.)

Emperor Smeat

If the WWE were upset at him taking digs or making jokes about the company then it would have made more sense for them to have a talk with Ryder to tone down his show but they did nothing even after helping him out with the show.

Vince basically wanted to embarrass Ryder for no actual reason in front of his hometown while Ryder had been happy at getting the moment he planned for a while. Ryder is doing a lot of the things WWE wants its wrestlers to do such as selling merchandise and getting the WWE Universe involved either at shows or online.

* Zach Ryder pinned Primo. Ryder was over huge with RAW being in Long Island. He did mic work and all his catchphrases from the Youtube series were over. The crowd was chanting for Ryder the entire time. Ryder pulled out a pescado. Primo took over, slamming Ryder shoulderfirst into the ringpost. Ryder mounted a comeback but was cut off. Ryder came back with a legdrop for a two count. Primo went for the back cracker but Ryder held the ropes and nailed his finisher for the pinfall. RYDER WINS! Good match that the crowd was into.

But he's also not a self made man like Bryan Danielson. So he's kinda stuck in limbo.
I think the two are more similar than they are different.

Danielson: took what he does best (in-ring work) and with a lack of TV exposure he travelled the world and made a name for himself, largely on the internet. This then bagged him a role in the "Big League".

Ryder: took what he does best (charisma) and with a lack of TV exposure (he's featured on a show that isn't even on TV in the US) and made a name for himself on the internet.

I'd get the issue if the hype was all internet based but it's not, it's in the arenas every week. Plain as day for the execs to see. In fact, moreso that DB who is getting a push of sorts.

I don't get the logic from a business standpoint. In a company where people are regularly "let go" because "creative having nothing for them" (which may just be an excuse) here we have a guy that has gone out and created his own fan base. In a company where I pay people to come up with storylines to get guys over, where I feel compelled to give them winning streaks or book them favourably to do so (see Cara, Cena) here I have a guy who for the most part has done the job himself, inspite of the booking.

I am an Assistant Night Manager in a supermarket (glamourous I know) and if my staff had as much "get up and go" or showed the initiative that a guy like Ryder has I would be laughing. Instead I have to treat half the staff like children and explain to them in great detail what I need them to do (and most of the time they still don't get the required level work completed).

It just seems that Vince has some really retarded logic. Spend time building a guy up on TV in the hope that he gets over with the crowd versus pushing a guy that is already popular from his own doing. I know what I would choose and it'd be the guy that makes my job easier.

Volare

The Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday/Viewer's Choice concept is a great way for WWE to see which guys their audience actually want to see (aside from crowd reactions obviously).

It's like if I had a shop and a fair amount of customers repeatedly asked for Coca Cola and I only sell lemonade, I reckon I'd consider ordering some Cola cos I know it's gonna sell.

They can pass it off as these polls being influenced by us net fans but surely that's bull. The kids of the WWE Universe probably spend more time on wwe.com than any of us spend here.

If that Rib story is real, the best thing for Ryder to do is take it on the chin and keep doing what he does. Vince will eventually respect a guy who takes his whippings. Typing this up from Issue 202 of Power Slam magazine, from an interview with former WWE Writer (and current - or maybe now former - producer for ROH's HDNet show) David Lagana.

Q: The WWE writers take a lot of flak from fans. I imagine when you were at WWE tv tapings, dealing directly with talent on the front line, so to speak, you had to occasionally endure hostility as well.

The talent all kinda know how it works there. And, yet, a lof of [WWE] talent hated me: they hated me!

Here's my advice right now. If you're a wrestling talen, working today, and you are not thinking every day about how you should be best used by the company and coming up with ideas and understanding that it is a collaborative process and learning how to work [I]within that process, then...

Let me put it this way: my number one hero right now is Zack Ryder. He gets it. Okay, they're not using him a lot on tv - but, look at what he does every week on his little web show. He's created a five-minute web show that John Cena loves and tweets about. That's getting yourself over. Hopefully, WWE will start watching that and put it on television because he is trying to get his character over on his own. That's a guy I would work hard for every day because he's thinking about himself and working within the parameters of the character he has created.Or maybe not then?

People within WWE were upset that Ryder wasn't used with the feeling that he's got himself over with fans using social media and without a normal WWE push, and he wasn't even put on RAW because the company knew he would get a bigger reaction than some of the stars they push on TV." The "turning face" bit is the one to be "worried" about. Using "Insider Terms" like that is stepping over a "line".

Loved the Obama fist pump. I reckon he did that deliberately just to get on one of Ryder's vids.

I thought it was just me when I watch Episode #18 but apparently 28 other people think the same, with this being the second most "liked" comment on the video:

is it me, or does Zack Ryder seem slightly pissed off in this video?

I don't blame him for being pissed off if he is.

Just watched his Superstars match. He gets a pretty massive reaction. His dad, The Big O, and his girlfriend are all there and shown on screen.

Zack's Dad is of course wearing a John Morrison T-Shirt.

I wouldn't be too pleased either if someone stole my videos and uploaded them on their YouTube channel. :-\
