R Truth seems to be the recient "lets throw him in a world title match" guy in the WWE. He wasnt exactly my pick for the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber, but the WWE keeps trying to book him as a main event contender. The guy has his botches every now and again (the shout out in the vid, a few matches here and there) but can you actually see him winning the world title? He's pretty over with the fans, he's a veteran in the ring, and still in great shape. I could "believe" if he won the title but I think there are much better stars out there that I'd rather see win it

ZERO! NADA! ZILCH! GOOSE EGG!
Truth has never and will never be championship material. Yes I know he won the NWA Title 2 times but he is not on the level that it takes to be WWE champ.

He's recognised by the NWA as a world champion but it's ignored in WWE, so no I just don't see him winning the WWE or WHC. As ooTin said, he is not WWE Champion material.
He's black.
/default response to any black person's chances of winning a world title in WWE.
But seriously, I don't see it. He's mid card for life in WWE, and I kind of doubt he'll ever win any title other than tag at this point.

The guys is talented no doubt but to me he was way more entertaining when he was tagging with the likes of Road Dogg as K-Kwik he's so much a blander version of his former self.

yea i would like to see them give him the ball and see if he can run with it. what i think is funny is the wwe is still letting him come to the ring with the same song he used in tna, they need to repackege that.
I've said it a million times:
The guy's REAL NAME is RON KILLINGS.
That's like the name you'd pick to give a master hitman in a screenplay where Kevin Spacey is the bad guy. If the guy played football in high school everyone would want his jersey because it says "KILLINGS" on the back of it!
IT'S THE MOST AWESOME WRESTLING NAME ANYONE COULD EVER ASK FOR! EVER!
But do they USE his real name? NO! Stupid ass WWE makes him into a fucking cartoon character with some "quasi-street-thug" name like R-Truth! Like he's a fucking Harlem street preacher or some bullshit! FUCK!
Ron "The Truth" Killings could be a WWE Champion.
R-Truth will NEVER be a WWE Champion.

They tried, and nobody wanted to "Get Crunked". They'd rather be asked what's currently happening in an ebonics way.

He's someone the crowd likes that up and coming heels can get a victory over and look credible. He's far too gimmicky and not serious enough.
All of those things can change of course, but i don't see it.

There's a difference between being one of 30 (or forty) and being the sixth man in an EC match. You don't see him constantly getting one on one title shots. He does have a good amount of charisma and is passable in the ring. I never feel like he's standing out or anything. He's just kind of there to be the face that the fans cheer who puts over an up and coming heel.

I agree that the crowd can't take him seriously because he comes out and performs like a court jester with his dancing, etc.
R-Truth has just become that "filler" guy to plug in to a title match because they have 6 spots for the chamber.
And they really only market his gimmick...not the wrestler...emphasizing that shitty finisher where he spun around in the air for no apparent reason causing minimal damage, but somehow a knockout blow to a midcarder.

the bigest problem with that was they were going pg an vinces wife was running for office, he needs to stop rapping to the ring. what needs to hapen is both he and gail need to go back to tna.

I think anybody could be champ these days half the roster are former multi time champions. In Truths case it would only take a slight makeover and heel turn

He could go to Smackdown and win the IC title as a heel.

Dunno, he is always mad over. Doesn't really matter what we think, if the majority fanbase buys it, then it is a good idea.

R-Truth is not at that level.
BUT u never know, Jack Swager was champ once....

Swagger is much younger. It's not even (just) a race thing.
The only black guy in the E that has a chance of winning the WWE title right now is Kofi Kingston.

that's exactly why i want him to win it. nobody thinks it will happen.
but what i want more is for "what's up" to go away. ridiculously stale.
i haven't seen him win a match in what feels like years....

Isn't R-Truth like legally forbidden from entering Canada? Yeah, I don't think R-Truth is going to be given the World Title anytime soon. He's perfect as the vanguard of the upper-midcarders. It's a respectable living, and something that Truth has worked hard to achieve over 14 years. Hardly anything to be ashamed of, especially given the limits on him.
The only way I would want to see Truth win the World Title is by turning heel, dressing up like Old Glory, and refusing to defend "America's World Title" anywhere but in the United States.

At a time when The Miz is champion heading into wrestlemania, I dont think you can say that R-Truth will never win the world/wwe title.

In like seven years, The Miz is better than R-Truth has gotten in double that time...

Agreed. Miz is also 30 to Truth's 39. Truth is entering the twilight of his career, while Miz has just entered his prime.

Nothing against him but Truth seems like he's stuck at being the mediocre sideshow-star to make the main eventer look better. He's better as either 'one of the guys' as in a stable or some alliance body guard power house role or IC Champ.

As for the topic at hand, I don't feel Truth will ever be a top guy in the WWE, heel or face. I don't know what his mic skills are like sans the horrible raps, but his voice is atrocious, and I see him having more physical charisma, and have my doubts that he can actually talk.
I could be wrong, as he has been given very little promo time. But from what I've seen, he's horrible.
And Noid's got it right. He's in a nice spot. Life in the mid card, featured consistently on flaghship proramming, and gets inserted into a main event here and there. He has "headlined" two EC's in a row. That's 10x better than a lot of mid card lifers have ever gotten.
I do think he was better, and more enjoyable on SmackDown!, where they seemed to use him more purposely.
Dunno wat it is but hes really unlikeable to me.
I would like 90% of the roster to get a push before he did.

Almost no chance at winning either of the two main titles in the WWE although his best chance was when the crowd was really into his "What's Up" phrase about a few months to a year ago. WWE never bothered to give him a main event or title feud to capitalize it beyond a random match or two.
I'm a bit more surprised he never got more than 1 reign as a US/IC champion since he fits much better in that division than in the top division.

Doubtful. He'd be a good heel challenger if he just went out one day and said "what's up? what's up is that i'm sick of being a joke to you people, the truth is i've been held down way too long around here doing this crap and I'm sick of it".......my choice would be for him to finish with "enough is enough and it's time for a change" lol

Chances would be better with a heel turn. Those are usually a way to inject some character depth. If they pulled the trigger on that heel tease he was giving off when he kept talking to Cena about Nexus, methinks this thread would have very different responses.

Truth would be worse as a heel, half of his gimmick is audience participation and outside of "whats up" everything he says is illegible.

Truth didn't make too bad a heel in TNA. Of course, he had an awesome name like Ron Killings, and not R-Truth.

R-hell no.
I thought we saw some shades of grey added to R-Truth over the last few months. But they didn't lead anywhere. Anyways, IMO, he doesn't have the Champion look. A decent wrestler with half-decent mic skills who can whip up the crowd, but outside of his entrance and cheap-pop local city name call, that's about it.

I really don't think the WWE would put the World Title on a guy with criminal history. Especially in the PG-era. Wasn't that one of the reasons MVP never got anything more than a teased push prior to asking for his release? The biggest difference between the two (besides MVP being the overall better talent, in my opinion), is that Truth might be a little healthier, but is ultimately happy to accept being a mid-carder who gets to headline multi-man PPV matches.
I personally think that Truth has got a better chance of heading into the Hall of Fame than winning the World Title. The title requires Truth to be a PR guy, and the man can barely speak English. Truth seems to have plenty of years left in his tank, physically, and could really create some stars. He's the vanguard to the upper-card, and any heel that beats him is going to get booed and taken more seriously, whereas any face that teams with him is going to get more over. He'd be like a Koko B. Ware inductee, but I honestly believe it is more likely -- especially if Truth becomes an agent or something down the track.

Lock Jaw is correct, he wasn't a bad heel in TNA. If they gave Thwagger a chance to get over his speech impediment, and let Jeff Hardy gain enough talking time over the years to become halfway decent on the stick like he is now, it should be nothing to let Ron do his thing. Biggest problem is his gravely voice. He's not nearly as bad as Malenko, but still... Stevie Richards got over it, and so can this guy. Give him some meaningful things to say instead of merely the cheap pop intro, and give him the opportunity to ANNUNCIATE without having to yell into a mic (which, imo, was one of the best things about the "heel turn cocktease" he had with Cena).

Yet Booker T was a multiple time champion and currently on the Smackdown! announce team. Go figure.

i think if they built it up right it could be good..like have him come out sayin he is droppin the rap and all that, and say its time to start focusing on the gold. i dont see anything wrong with him gettin a run with the belt. its all about how they build to it tho. i think it would be a feel good moment if he won it
It's not saying anything new, but I too don't get why they wouldn't let him use his real name.
Knowing WWE they'll probably think of Ron Killings being a cool name once he's retired and they'll just give it to someone else.

You want him to drop the one thing that has him over with the crowd - effectively turning heel - to create a "feel good moment"? :wtf:

I dunno, seems like a guy pretty ok for a live crowd but not anybody you can really put a company behind so I doubt it. I think the guy's ok, he's got good energy and he's ok on the mic when he has the town correct and can say 'what's up' to the rhythm of his own theme music.
