Thought we'd do a spinoff of the WWE thread
I will start off with Disco Inferno

I happen to be a huge fan of theirs
but I guess I can see why you don't like it
you're more of an 80's rock guy
What about Disco Inferno?
He was great.

When did they ever try to "push" Disco Inferno. If anything he wasn't pushed enough.
Honestly Disco is probably top 10 in my fav wrestlers of all time.

I'd say Shane Douglas
I think Shane would be long forgotten if he never went to ECW as even the fans hated him when he tagged with Johnny Ace as The Dynamic Dudes and then of course in 99-00

I love disco and I've just watched Shane Douglas and Kendall Windhak put on a classic on Nitro.
Again, Shane wasn't pushed enough. He was the best talker in The Revolution and could go.

Buff Bagwell
Dunno. He was shit, but never really pushed. Held a couple of mid-card titles but I'm at September 1999 and he's curtain jerking against Berlyn.
Road Warrior Animal
David Flair
Hugh Morrus
The Nasty Boys

Other than Hugh Morris, this list is good.

Somebody call your mama. You're done. The Cat was the man.

When was he pushed? They hyped his return as Berlyn, but only had a month before Russo came in who didn't really like him and pushed The Wall instead. Plus, his look as Berlyn was awesome and he could fucking go.

Can't believe I'm the first person to say Lex Luger and Kevin Sullivan.
Luger to his credit was over as fuck and had the look, but god damn he was terrible at everything. Basically he had a forearm and the torture rack (which was awesome), and that was it. But Kevin Sullivan, jesus christ. He was the worst. Might be my least favorite wrestler ever.

He joined the elite version eventually, I loved his short run as Scott Hall's lacky/manager. Hell Hal helped him beat Wrath on Nitro once! It was great they added Wolfpac sound effects to his theme song.

The crowd liked Kronik so it might be a bit unfair to say they were "failed" wrestlers. If anything WCW failed with their push of Bryan Clark/Wrath during the period before he became part of the Kronik team.
Even though they were not really wrestlers, the majority of the celebrity "wrestlers" WCW hired and pushed. Huge waste of money that didn't benefit WCW, especially with Master P and his group.

I think the term "failed wrestlers" might be unfair to some. I believe in most cases, it's either "failed gimmicks" or "failed face/tweener/heel turns" or "failed singles/tag team runs."

He held the WCW World Title Twice. I don't know how much more of a push you can give someone.
Lara Emily
03-05-2011, 09:40 PM
yeah he won it twice in Nov 1999 and then in Dec 1999 after that awful riff on the Montreal screwjob at Starrcade he won it again in that awfully booked finish where he joined the nWo. He won the belt twice in the last 3 months of his WCW career come on.
I don't see how that's a big push. Or hell if you think it is, then I don't see how bad booking makes him a failed wrestler.

Sid Vicious, Scott Steiner, Vampiro
Screw you. I would pay some sort of up front 5 year subscription to WWE PPVs now if they ensured that Vampiro was wrestling on them. Scott Steiner was also the man.
I would have agreed with Sid had I not just watched how awesome he was in 1999. The guy is a heat machine in this period too.

To whoever said Kevin Sullivan:
Fuck off.
Kevin Sullivan was great as the leader of the Varsity Club and the Slaughterhouse (with Buzz Sawyer and a young Cactus Jack). His feud with "the collective delusion" was incredibly real (because let's face it, he booked his own divorce), and it was a nasty feud and got Benoit over. The Dungeon of Doom itself sucked donkey balls, but I don't blame that on Sullivan.
Beyond that, you can't tell me that Sullivan's Army of Darkness in Florida DIDN'T inspire the Ministry of Darkness.
What does Florida have to do with WCW?

Your argument that he didn't suck is that he was constantly pushed (by himself) in a bunch of important angles and gimmicks. That's your argument in a thread called "Failed Wrestlers That WCW Kept Trying to Push."
Sullivan was terrible. Possibly the worst wrestler of all time.

I would NOT call him the worst of all time. Not while Great Khali and George Gonzales (Giant Gonzales, El Gigante) were a thing.
Apart from the Dungeon of Doom (much of which WAS an abomination filled with Hogan's friends), he never worked a main event program in WCW. He knew his limitations.
I will not and have not put him on par with a Ric Flair as far as important characters. But he HAS helped the people he worked with get over (again, a young Cactus Jack comes to mind. As does Rick Steiner.).
He was a niche performer and he filled his niche.
Again, El Gigante was horrible. Bill Kazmier was horrible. Buff Bagwell can suck a barrel of cock. Kidman wasn't worth going over hogan.
