View Full Version : Why did it take Rock to do that to Cena?

Nobody can deny that The Rock is one of the most charismatic stars of all time but when you think about it, he did one of the simplist things. He made fun of the fact that Cena's such a "sugary" babyface, the colorful clothes, and the lame catchphrases. Why do you think they didnt have Edge or Miz do something like that? It's not like it was a complicated storyline, come out, make fun of him, insult him, challange him at Wrestlemania. It's something soo simple but they didnt have anyone else do it before. Why do you think the WWE didnt have somebody else do what Rocks doing to him now?

Because thats how the booked it to go? Vince is smart enough to not blow the potential load John Cena can slay on us. He waits for the biggest opportunity.
Because Rock probably was told to go out there and talk about Cena, and he said what a lot of fans were thinking instead of following a script.
Either that, or they're getting ready to turn Cena. Which I doubt, but still, Rock is exposing Cena for what he really is. If Cena doesn't change his character at least a bit after this it won't make sense. Unless, of course, they go the hug route and have Cena get the rub from Rock at Mania, which will be a huge waste, but expected.
That's a big problem with this whole thing, not only is Rock owning Cena at every turn (barring Cena's rap, which Rock even owned) because he's a God on the mic, but he's exposing him and essentially shitting on the foundation of the new generation WWE.

Ahh, I wish wrestling would never change...
I think to do that would take us into the breaking kayfabe area and it seems like nowadays Cena is the only one besides Triple H or HBK who are allowed to respond or make comments related to marks. You must have noticed that the other wrestlers stick to their character while Cena sometimes makes comments about what the fans have said. The Rock is essentially the voice of those who are against Cena. He's not the Miz or Edge or Dolph. He's been away for a long time and this would be the only beef they would have. To come up with something else wouldn't be smart, I think. You've got all these Cena haters and it's smart to use those haters. We wanna see Cena get torn apart, verbally and physically and we all want to believe that The Rock is our savior and will do this. It would be bad to end with them hugging unless it's done right because the Wrestlemania crowd will shit on that.
There's no way they can do the hugging "right" with the Mania crowd. It just can't happen if they expect it not to be shit on.
Honestly, at this point, I believe we're going to see Rock vs Cena at SummerSlam. I don't care what Rock has said that he's done, the possibility is absolutely there, and I can't see this whole thing being resolved in 4 weeks.
At the very least, I think they'll continue their spat into SummerSlam.
I'm sure there's a way but if I was WWE I wouldn't definitely stay away from that direction.

Isn't this like the only thing The Miz and Edge talked about with Cena?

Pretty sure Carlito also cut a promo on Cena trashing his merch and that everyone was sick of him hogging the spotlight. Nobody cared though because it was Carlito.

Because The Rock has the "I'm saying what I want, how I want it or I'm not doing it" clause in his contract I assume.

Batista too. It's 'revolutionary' all of a sudden because it's Rock.

Look people, saying the Rock owned Cena because you hate Cena is one thing. To openly ignore the fact that the Rock is doing something other people have already done is retarded.

I'm calling bullshit on this. Cena has the tools to make it, no matter what era; look, mic skills, in ring ability, is very marketable and, best of all, is the epitome for what the face of the company should be and is a PR dream.
I don't care for Cena anymore than your average IWC fan, but to say he suck is just ignorant.

But wrestling isn't like it used to be.
But then again maybe wrestling is like it used to be, before it became the used to be you're talking about.
Aka the good ol' C-Nation = Hulkamania
Anyway - that line of arguing is quite silly. I could just say that if society was how it used to be, then Cena would be shovelling manure in his Lord's stables. Along with the rest of us sadly.
I'm hoping, as stated elsewhere, that the return of Rock and other things in the WWE means a slight change is happening. Not necessarily to the Cena character, but the WWE model. Becoming just slightly more edgy. Not attitude era, but just a little tougher than PG. A little blood, a few swears allowed here and there. In a slightly changed environment the Cena character would have to change slightly.

I guess it's because nobody did it anywhere near as well as The Rock has

in my opinion, when rock said "finally the rock has come back to buffalo" via satellite from los angeles, he "owned" himself.

Wait, wait, sorry...The Miz is incredible and he outdraws every champion in WWE history. He is a complete God because Dammit, I like him and cannot separate my own feelings from the larger picture.

It's a good question.
Honestly - I think it has to do with the fact that the WWE is PG...and that up until The Rock appeared a few weeks ago, it was a given that wrestlers were "restricted" in terms of what they could say.....and weren't "authorized" to go beyond certain limits.
When The Rock appeared however, a lot of the rules seemingly went out the window. Still being used to the Attitude era, The Rock pushed the envelope....and made some non-PG references (to both Cena and Michael Cole). Since The Rock was allowed to be "non PG", Cena would have been at an "unfair advantage" had he tried to get back at The Rock. Hence - Cena started using his "pre 2005" rapping/hip hop antics.
