Hitman84

... would you show to a non-wrestling fan to get them interested?
Choose one match from each era:
- 1984-1992
- 1992-1998
- 1998-2002 (Attitude Era)
- 2003-present
Mine would be:
Savage/Steamboat, WM3
Hart/Austin, WM13
Hardys/Dudleys/E+C, WM17
Lesnar/Big Show, Smackdown, sometime in 2003 (I think, correct me if I am wrong. If I am wrong, I'll say Miz/Morrison, Falls Count Anywhere, Raw, 2011)
What do you all think?

I might replace the WM12 Iron Man Match with Taker-Mankind's Hell in a Cell match just to switch up and show different styles.
Pretty sure HBK/Bret at WM 12 would bore any non-fan to tears tbh :-\

Hogan/Warrior at WM6
HBK/Bret at WM12
Taker/Mankind at KOTR 1998
Benoit/HHH/HBK at WM 20 or Eddie/Lesnar at NWO2004.... too close to call.....

That's the issue. It's tough to designate what matches to show people to get them into wrestling. We're all fans of wrestling so it's tough to take the view of someone who hates it.
I think if someone can't appreciate that match though, I don't think they have a shot at being a fan of wrestling.

Thats the point of the thread though... what matches would you show someone who's not a fan. A casual person would be bored. So you'll have to go to exciting matches to get them into it.
Once they say "yeah I could watch this" then they can learn eventually to appreciate the classics.
Ramming it down their throat "you have to appreciate this, its such a feat" won't turn someone onto the product.... casual people like an explosion, not a soliloquy
Not to mention HBK/Bret from WM was pretty boring for the most part.

But is the assumption that we need to show them things to KEEP them fans. Showing them stuff and then having them watch now and realize how it's nothing like what they were shown seems meaningless.
Good pure wrestling is really the only constant. Other things change.

Well, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Not necessarily the best matches, but I think these would be the easiest to make a wrestling fan out of:
1984-1992 = Hogan vs. Warrior - WM 6
1993-1997 = Hart vs. Austin - WM 13
1998-2002 = Taker-Mankind - KOTR 98
2003-Present = HBK vs. Flair - WM 24

Also, you've gotta factor in background. Do they get the whole background leading up to the match? If so, Taker-HBK from WM 25 is the best all-era choice for me.
Or maybe WM 26. The build was technically better despite my personal dislike of the match.
Bret vs Stone Cold
DDP vs Goldberg
Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels
Rock vs Hogan WM18
Batista vs Triple H
Batista vs Undertaker
Batista vs Shawn Michaels
Batista vs Basketball
Batista vs Kid who ran in front of Batista while he was warming up
Limiting this to one match per wrestler.
84-92 (technically 83, but whatever): Piper vs Valentine - Dog Collar Match
1992-1998: Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin - Mania 13
1998-2002: Triple H vs. The Undertaker - Mania 17
2003-Present: Cena vs. Umaga - Royal Rumble 2007

Hogan vs warrior wm 6
Austin vs hart wm 13
Benoit vs Booker t (best of seven....all seven, even if its cheating)
Taker vs HBK round 1
This list intrigues me.

Every one includes at least one top star from their respective era, and all of them involve what I love about wrestling, and I feel these types of matches are easier for someone who would be into the more non-PG product, but would still be starting out as a "casual" fan.
I'd have preferred to have Taker vs. Michaels on that list, but I'd used Taker vs Hunter. Plus, it gives a good match (arguably one of his best) from Cena.

but it seems to be a favorite amongst the people

1984-1992: Hogan v. Warrior-Mania 6
1992-1998: Hart v. Austin-Mania 13
1998-2002- Austin v. Rock-Mania 17
2002-Present- Cena v. Triple H-Mania 22
Hogan/Warrior speaks for itself. Bret and Austin was the beginning of a new era, and Austin got kickstarted into his push to the top. Austin/Rock marked the end of that new era, with the two top babyfaces going at it to bring the Attitude era home. Cena/H was again, the beginning of a new era. Cena had been on top for a year, but this was by far the biggest, hottest match he had been in.
