I had a thought...hypothetical.
I was just thinking about The Rock's triumphant return, and the promo that he delivered afterwards.
During that promo, he delivered one line in particular that perplexed a lot of people.
He stated that he was back and never leaving.
Hmm. Well, the obvious answer to such a statement is that it's nothing more than pandering to the fans.
But, could it technically hold true?
As we know, there is still "The Anonymous Raw GM."
In theory, could The Rock ultimately be revealed as the mysterious GM, and be "permanently" appointed as the GM of Raw?
In doing so, they would be able to have "The Rock" be a part of weekly WWE television without actually being there.
Creative could write messages and orders "in the style of" The Rock. In essence, you'd be including a character in the weekly storyline, without being shown on screen.
Then, they could have him show up once or twice a year. By doing so, they would make periodic appearances into a permenant role.
Of course, nothing is permanent in wrestling, and once the novelty wore off, it would get shitcanned.
But in theory, could it work? Could The Rock's name and involvement be utilized in an off-screen role, as a weekly fixture on Raw?
As it is, there has been much discussion about who or what would be the kayfabe authority figure on the product once Vince isn't.
Discuss.

Another hypothetical.
As we know, The Rock is set to appear on Raw the night after Wrestlemania as well.
What if, instead of Rock besting Cena, it happened the other way around? After losing to The Miz, Cena snaps and turns on The Rock.
The next night, The Rock comes out and says John Cena may have gotten the better of him, but what he doesn't know is that The Rock wasn't telling everything...yada yada yada...he's the GM of Raw and is going to make his life a living hell all the way to Summerslam or whenever he has time to do another stint.

i don't know about this one. when a mysterious person is revealed, you want to see them, or at least hear them, or whatever. there is no longer any suspense or excitement in keeping them away, and without actually seeing the rock, i don't think a crowd would get excited to hear "rock-like" phrases. if anything, it would take steam away from a surprise return.

Yeah I dunno about that. Having people read statements supposedly written by The Rock seems hella lame. The dynamic changes once you reveal the GM. Right now the emails are acceptable because he wants to remain anonymous. Once he's revealed, the emails would just say that he couldn't be bothered to show up or that the announcement wasn't important enough to make in person.

I think it'd work for a week or two, but that would largely be bartering on the premise that the Rock might return. After that, I think things would die down fast.
At first, I thought they were talking about the Rock doing a promo for Raw, because that would mean he wouldn't need to be in the building.
Unfortunately, it lacks the dynamic element of being able to do things like interrupt matches and shit, so even that doesn't really work.
Would it be contradicting some of the stuff the GM has done in the past? I can't remember entirely but theres been some heelish decisions and stuff by the GM.
Also, Rock doesnt seem the type to hide behind anonyminity, being this charismatic, outlandish guy.
Would be a great way to keep him around tho mind.

Could The Rock not just appear on film each week for a few minutes? They could film it at his home to fit with his schedule and in theory could film weeks of footage at a time.
I don't think that's the case. I took the "I'm back and am never leaving" quote as meaning that he was back in the WWE film and will be exploiting it whenever he needs a movie plugged.
I also think he'll be back at least once year just to do something in the storylines. And I still absolutely believe that we'll see Rock vs. Cena down the line.
But no, he won't be the GM and won't be a regular character.

Do you mean working for WWE films? I don't see why he'd stop making movies for real film studios
I actually meant WWE fold, lol.

Do you honestly think they won't reveal someone who doesn't also carry "continuity" issues?

Yea, really.
The GM could, and will, be anyone they see fit. Whoever is the best viable option at the time.
Whether that means Rock, Jericho, Vince or Snooki. Nothing that happened with the GM, especially last summer, is going to be a factor in their decision.
