Summerslam from 2000-2002 were incredibly strong shows. In fact, I feel Summerslam was vastly superior to Wrestlemania in both 2000 and 2002.
Just awesome shows.
Summerslam 2002 is one of the best shows ever, I think.

2001 was incredible as well, but it doesn't top that years Wrestlemania because that was the year of X-Seven, which is probably my favorite show of alltime.

I have a soft spot for Summerslam 04 because I was there and the crowd was amazing, plus two great matches in Angle vs Guerrero and Benoit vs Orton

-Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio
-Ric Flair vs Chris Jericho
-Edge vs Eddie Guerrero
-The Un-Americans (Lance Storm and Christian) (c) vs Booker T and Goldust Tag Team Championship
- Rob Van Dam vs Chris Benoit (c) Intercontinental Championship
-The Undertaker vs Test
-Shawn Michaels vs Triple Unsanctioned Street Fight
-Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) vs The Rock(c) for the WWE Undisputed Championship

What an unreal card. And the builds and actual matches for most of those matches were huge.
This was like a Wrestlemania. Better than 90% of Wrestlemanias actually, including that year's.

Just the talent involved is incredibly impressive. Everyone on the card is a legend in the industry for their abilities, aside from Test. That's a pretty good ratio. And when Test is the worst wrestler on your show, you're in pretty damn good shape.

Yeah, it's weird, I consider the summer the high point of my year and I always remember what I was doing that particular year in the summer.

Like Lara said, I got soft spots for PPVs not based on the card, but what I was feeling a particular year and how involved I was into pro wrestling.

From 2000 to 2002 my interest in wrestling was at it's highest and the times were memorable in those summers, so I tend to like those SummerSlams.

Maybe it was the heavy use of marijuana in 2002 that makes me like SummerSlam 2002 the best. I was marking out huge for The Rock vs. Brock. My favorite wrestler of all-time going up against this rookie monster heel dude. I remember my pops calling him the Swedish Assasin lol. Brock was a fucking monster that spring/summer. I really felt like he was a real threat to anyone he faced. The mark in me was dissapointed when Rock lost, but I knew it was gonna happen like that. Then he did that heel promo on the Long Island crowd turning on them after the cameras went off the air.

Also, I thought the man that attacked Shawn Michaels in the parking lot was gonna be revealed as Goldberg. LOL. Also I remember people speculating that Goldberg was the "shadow figure" in the King of The Ring 2002 poster.

I agree 100%

There was something special that summer. Rey made his debut. The Rock vs. Brock build was perfect. I wonder why the writers today can't come up with something like that these days. HBK vs. HHH was legendary. The whole Ric Flair vs. Jericho build up was perfect too. I always liked that feud. Totally forgot that they did that in 2002. I loved Jericho's Rockstar gimmick at the time. Great stuff. Didn't realize how solid that card was until you mentioned it

funny you mention that, the only shows I would watch over and over and over again on VHS at the time was my X7 tape and my SummerSlam 2002 tape. I couldn't put those down at the time. I still keep them stashed away in good condition in case I wanna relive those shows 10 years from now.

SORRY TO QUOTE YOU AGAIN BRO

I'll always have a soft spot for last year's SummerSlam main event just because of the chaos that ensued when I noticed that WWE had spoiled Daniel Bryan's return on their own site and added him to the Raw roster page. Just the anticipation of "will he actually show up or are they trolling us?" was great

I have to go with Orton over Benoit. That finish was nice. And it had impact on the climate a bit.

2002, easily. One of the best WWE PPV's of the new millenium.

Mysterio vs Angle was as solid of an opener as I think I've ever seen. Benoit/RVD was a dream match I'd been waiting years to see. After the amazing HBK/Triple H match, which proved that even after all those years away from the ring that HBK still had "it", I was a bit worried that Rock/Brock would be overshadowed by their contest. I was very very wrong. Brock gave Rocky one of his best matches of all time, and even though I fully expected Rock to walk out of Summerslam as the WWE Champion (at the time, very few men had won the big one without first holding the IC Title, especially in their first year in the company), and I was incredibly surprised when Brock hit the F5 and pinned Rock clean in the middle of the ring.

It really started a new era for wrestling (with the World Heavyweight Title being assigned to RAW a couple of weeks later) and marked the beginning of the end of Rocky's career in the WWE, and what was supposed to be the beginning of the era of Lesnar in the WWE.

Love you too Naitch.

I've no problem with this thread, this is looking back fondly on a decade of SummerSlams. That's what the thread is for. It's not "Man this era sucks compared to the Attitude Era" in the middle of a thread talking about today. It's also not a singular outdated question.

To answer the thread, 2000 - 2002 were standout for me.

2000 had the first TLC, the Kane v Taker "match" was pretty good, Rock/HHH/Angle, Benoit v Jericho. Must have watched this about 10 times over the years.

2001 gave us Angle/Austin, Rock/Booker T, Jeff Hardy/RVD, Jericho/Rhyno.

And 2002 which has been covered enough here. Sadly I don't have that one to re-watch :(.
