So, there didn't seem to be a thread for this series, and with the newest installment coming out supposedly this year, I felt maybe it was warranted.
Loved the first one all those years ago, and even Invisible War wasn't too bad as a console game.

Reading over this has my pretty excited. :D

Tried playing the first one a while back. Gameplay felt too dated for me to get into it, though I'm sure it was great for it's time.
Been following this new one, and it looks amazing.

Still pretty ashamed to say I have never completed the first Deus Ex game, something I'm hopefully going to rectify before the third one is released. Really loved what I played of it though.

Never tried the original which never appealled to me to this day but Invisible War is one of my favorite games ever hopefully the next installment can live up to the rest of the series even though it is afterall a prequel.

You guys need to go download deus ex. Look put it on fucking God mode and just play it for the story and the choices, it's no more outdated in it's gameplay than say oblivion, except for the obvious graphical limitations.
It's so fantastic.

It really was a surprisingly good game, the first one. And yeah, for it's time it was amazing. Even now, it's one of those games that is graphically limited (obviously) but the play is pretty solid and entertaining.
I agree though, the new game looks stunning... I seriously hope the latest installment does the series justice.

This game is a week away so I thought I'd bump this.
Really looking forward to this. Reading some of the previews, and the review in PC Gamer, it seems there are TONS of different augmentations to change the way you play the game. Personally I plan on focusing on Stealth and melee, to become the batman of the cyberpunk future.

Deus Ex blew me away! I was in highschool when it was released and what a great time for gaming that was.
DE was possibly the first FPS, or maybe game in general, that I had an opportunity to play which allowed the player to direct their story and play how they wished.
I wish that some classic games such as DE would receive a modern day face lift and be re-released. I mean exactly the same, as is, but with improved graphics. Kind of like a how great films are put into an archive to be preserved.

Not very far in, but I already love this game. Surprised this isn't being talked about more on this forum. Though if this is a very multiplayer centric place, I guess it wouldn't be talked about much.
Oh man, I loved the 1st game. Will be checking this thread often.

Got it today, but haven't had a chance to play it yet.
Deus Ex was one of my favorite games of all time. Deus Ex 2 sucked though...
Hopefully this one won't dissapoint.

Started over, because I wanted to try a couple missions over, as well as get a few different augs.
I think hacking, regardless of which direction you take, is something you're going to have to spend a few points on.

Second run is going much better. You really have to take careful consideration into what augs you use, and what weapons you carry. You have to strategize, and set a long term goal for what you want your character to be. My initial run through of the first few levels and side missions went rough, as my augs were all over the board.
This time I focused on one major thing, with one or two elsewhere, and I did way better. Even infiltrated a gang hideout and got out without being detected.
This gameplay is almost like a combination of Mass Effect and Metal Gear Solid.

I recommend picking up the Icarus Landing System aug early. Especially if you are like me and miss time jumps when jumping roof top to roof top...
Did anyone buy this retail on the PC?

What I dont get is that Gamestop and their new digital distribution service doesn't directly compete with Onlive, but it does compete with Steam..so..why the fuck are they selling the game at all then if they have a problem with promoting competing services?

Gamestop is claiming it has to do with how Square-Enix didn't inform them of the free code nor put a label anywhere on the box saying it comes with a free code to OnLive.
Gamestop also has a friendly agreement with Valve and they sell Steam-related cards in store unlike OnLive cards.

I wonder if you buy the game and try to return it on the basis that it didnt have the coupon if they would accept the return given they opened it.

Gamestop is preparing to pull all PC copies of the game off its shelves. It is being done both as a response to the negative news of them purposely taking stuff out of new copies and as a "boycott" of the game to Square-Enix until the On Live situation is cleared up.

Gamestop is offering an apology offer of a $50 gift card and a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" deal for pre-owned games for those who bought the PC version at Gamestop and the On Live code card was missing.

Must say this has to be one of the best themes from a video game like ever:

I've encountered NO lock ups amazingly, and only a few graphical glitches.
Whoever tested this did better than R* or Bethesda has in the last decade and a half.

Dunno who thought adding boss fights would be a good idea. They really jar with the concept of basically letting you get through the game how you want, forcing you to have a shoot out.

There's only like 4 of them, not counting the "verbal boss battles" in the game. Not much to complain about.

But it IS a valid complaint. Would be nice if they spent time making at least a couple battles as interesting as the rest of the game.
Like you said, not that big a deal, but it is something that should be addressed if they ever make a sequel, or even in DLC.

1st DLC pack set to arrive in October and is supposed to fill in the missing days or parts not shown in the game although any augmentations stats earned or spent might get reset once the DLC chapter is done.
“The Missing Link” is said to fill in three days worth of the main storyline, which will see Adam trapped on a freighter with every single one of his augmentations disabled.
This pack is also supposed to include new environments and characters and the possibility of being able to rebuild Adam’s augmentations, even though that feature may be temporary.

So I picked this up a couple days ago and went through the first mission just now.
If you don't wander around HQ for too long, do you get a shot to rescue the hostages? I went to every corner and talked to a few people and got a message that the hostages got killed.

No. It would ruin the 99% of the story if you did. You don't get to rescue them during the prolog anyhow.

ummm yes, you CAN rescue them. You just have to get to tech labs, and then go right to the mission. Even then you have to hack the bomb, or find the code in a computer, but you can save them.

Hated boss battle number 2 as well. Was glad to get past it.

Hated all of the boss battles, the parts in between were amazing but having them in the game just seemed pointless. I'm not totally against boss battles in games but they just didn't really work here, none of them were really that interesting. When you look at a game like MGS all the bosses in it are given personalities, they're given ways to beat them and they're actually interesting the ones in Deus Ex just weren't.
However that said the game is complete and it was fantastic especially worth it just for the scene after the credits.

According to one of the art director's for the game, Human Revolution at one point was meant to have at least 5 different cities or main HUBs until it was trimmed down to just Detroit and Lower Heng Sha.
The biggest problem ended up being the amount of work needed to create each area to be unique and fill it with content ended up being too much work for the team and the game would have been delayed for an even longer time if worked on.
At least 2 of the other planned HUBs did get some work on them (Montreal and Upper Heng Sha) which is why they have some references in the game but the 5th HUB meant to be India was only in concept stage by the time the current game itself was finished in development.
None of the extra HUBs are expected to be future DLC though with the focus more on filling the gaps or side-quests in the current storyline.
