Who is that young gentleman with a ful head of curly hair wrestling against Abdullah (who looks in amazing shape in this video) It's hard to believe that 20 years after that video he would become more popular than before and is still taking bumps to this day that would cripple younger wrestlers. Funk is a living legend but how do you feel about him and the style of wrestling that he represents?

He was damn good in the 70's and 80's

it was rather sad to see him continue in the biz the last ten years when obviously his body has been through hell and he needs to retire

He was obviously good enough to become NWA World's Heavyweight Champion when that belt actually meant something

Abdullah is in his 70's and he still wrestles

both guys need to fucking retire already

Terry Funk is fucking amazing.

He got it done in every style and every promotion. He was the NWA champ in the 70's. He was over like rover in Japan in the 80's. He then came back and along with Onita started the Garbage/Hardcore style that existed throughout the 90's and into the 2000's. He lent ECW credibility in the early to mid 90's and helped them grow. The guy has done it all.

He's had some good matches, but for the most part I just don't enjoy his style.

Abdullah the Butcher on the other hand, is fucking awful in my opinion.

Ugh.. That would be Terry Funk post 1993... He wrestled for over 27 years before that.

I'd rate him this many Warrior facepaints:

I loved Funk in ECW until like the end of 96 or early 97

I loved him as the Grizzled Old gun winning the world title.

and? considering he is remembered as the old fucker who put himself through barbed wire, I guess his 27 years before that dodn't amount to too much.....

He's probably not remembered as the old fucker who put himself through barbed wire to the people who followed him through the 70's and 80's.

Yeah, not even close. 'He is remembered as the old fucker who put himself through barbed wire' by people that have only seen him do that/not seen stuff from the first 20+ years of his career or retrograde amnesiacs.

how often does he still actually wrestle? i haven't heard much of him in the past couple years

:nono:

Abdullah in his heydey was one of the scariest heels in the business

the man has been in the biz since the early 60's so yeah of course he sucks nowadays

watch Abullah's matches in Japan or Puerto Rico

him and bruiser brody would tear you up

he was a huge name in the 70's and 80's

Funk also pretty much put ECW on the map

his father and his brother were both excellent wrestlers

his dad pretty much innovated texas death matches

Would somebody please post a good Terry Funk match and a good Abdullah match? I honestly have no bloody idea who Abdullah is and I don't think I've seen Terry Funk when he meant something.

Serious, not trying to be a dick.

Terry Funk helped out the industry by leaps and bounds. He always go the extra mile, because he loves wrestling. That's why from the 1990s onward, he didn't care about titles or pushes, he cared about the future of the business and the talent, so he put over a lot of great young talent. He had a great business mind when it came to that.

Terry Funk up to his run in wcw at the end of the monday night war was great but he continues to tarnish his legacy every time he wrestles anymore.

Which makes up all 0.000003% of this forum.

I wouldn't say 'tarnishing his legacy'. We'll see if you stop doing something you love just because you're considered 'past your prime'.

I wasn't around in the 70's and was a kid in the 80's but I still enjoy Funk's matches from that time

him and Dory Jr had an epic feud with another brother tag team known as Jack and Jerry Brisco in Florida

Terry also had a great feud with Dusty Rhodes

This isn't a match but one of my favorite Terry Funk moments

It's from his first of many retirements in 1983 in Japan

the promo following the match is just great

Here is the one and the only time Terry ever faced his brother Dory and it's from 1981 in Japan

It was an important match as even Jim Crockett was there

This is the kind of wrestling I grew to love. Top notch, from beginning to end.
