View Full Version : Reavant/Everyone Else: What do you think of steroids in MMA

What percentage of the guys on the amateur circuit do you think are on some kind of steroid or PED? Does that bother you at all? How unfair of an advantage do you think it gives your opponent? How would you punish guys who are caught?

I was asking Reavant since he actually fights, but anyone can jump in. I think at some point, Dana is going to have to come up with a policy other than "the commissions test and punish these guys so there's nothing more I can do."

If/when MMA overtakes boxing and becomes even more mainstream, incidents where top guys fail drug tests are going to get eaten up by bottom feeders like ESPN that love a scandal and political opponents of the sport.

I'm a huge fan of Thiago Silva, but when you look at what he did to get away with cheating and the fact that it cost Vera his job and nose temporarily, I can't help but wonder if the guy should be suspended for longer than a year.

Vera should have lost his job a few fights ago

Josh Barnett looks like shit for a habitual juicer.

You'd at least expect some form of muscle to start showing, not flab

Vera's not that bad. The Couture decision could have gone either way and there's no fault in getting smashed by Jon Jones. He's a good fighter to stick on the first match of a show or the facebook stream.

It's also used to recover faster from injurys, and helps those who enjoy sitting around and getting fat between training camps.

I dont really know how common it is for people to use PEDs at the amateur level. Theres really no incentive other than your win/loss record because the fighters usually dont get paid other than under the table shit if you or your camp is close with a promoter.

I guess it happens but from all that I have seen, its not that big of a deal at amateur because the skill levels are usually pretty low.

They also do zero testing on amateur fighters at least in illinois and indiana
