For those who are wondering, the Edge retirement speech was 100% legitimate and real. We were told by a company source earlier this evening that when the major announcement was made tonight, it was not an angle and not storyline.

The story that Edge told about medical tests coming back and showing there was a new issue with his neck and being advised he must retire is true. He was basically handed a mic and told to go out and say goodbye however he wanted.

im thinkin del rio will be the new champ. which means cena is prob winning the title at extreme rules (ack)..they have been pushing del rio way to much and putting way to much focus on him not to have the title. plus the way they faded out edges interview in the smackdown promo, ending with "sometimes destiny can change in an instant" or something along those lines. i like christian, but i dont see him as the viable champ right now

Taz goes all the way from ending Angle's undefeated streak, to cooking a magical turkey with gag ingredients in a backstage segment. Yep, nothing says bad-ass suplex machine like Thanksgiving dinner. And it's all his fault.

Lance Storm went from getting the push of a lifetime in a company who usually pissed all over half the talent they had to dancing the cabbage patch and "having a huge penis" somewhere that was supposed to be better all because Bagwell's name got a bigger pop which netted him the attempted WCW relaunch match with Booker T instead. But, that's Lance's fault.

Benoit had the charisma of a shoe... but he wasn't saddled with stupid makeovers or useless arm charms. They pushed him as a technical wrestler and submission specialist, and guess what? He got over as a technical wrestler and submission specialist... but I guess that was all the power of the WWE's creative machine and marketing department, huh?

benoit was already over because of his name from WCW. and as far as i can remember, daniel bryan was relevant before this whole cole and king thing. what i thought was working for bryan was when he cut that promo talking about how he is an average guy, how his haircut cost 10 bucks, and all that. he could have connected with people like that. he could have been that "real" person. but he only cut that kinda promo once, and only decided to go that way once. i do like the guy, and appreciate what he has done in the indys, and his tech ability, but you gotta sell yourself. there was a time not to long ago when people didnt buy miz as champ, and thought it was a joke, and he would only be champ for a month tops.

Stupid gimmick is one thing. Nothing to work with is another. It's one thing to be given some joke of a finisher like Cobra or The Worm, or dressing like a pirate and swinging to the ring and getting it to work. It's quite another to give a guy a set of twins to walk down to the ring with and say "here, get over by osmosis."

Fans are only to care about someone when they're given a reason to. Bryan was doing just fine when he came back and fueded with the Miz. Winning the US title in his first singles PPV match gave him some momentum, and they derailed it by giving him the Bellas for no reason whatsoever.

I get he doesn't have the physically intimidating look or presence of Benoit, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't push him as a techincally gifted, wrestling machine. Kids are gullible. I liked damn near every face WWE wanted me to like when I was a kid in the early and mid 90s, just as I'm sure a lot of us did. If creative presents the guy in a serious manner to the kiddies, they will bite.

Morrison was not all that over when he came to Raw. What happened? They let him go out there, played to his strengths and let him work great matches, and now he's over. This is a guy who is an absolute schlub on the microphone. If he can do it, why can't Bryan?

I agree. I will forever chant the mantra of playing to someone's strengths. Miz is a great talker... way better than his wrestling, which has come along very well. They didn't completely neuter him on the stick and make him do a bunch of jobs to high fliers. He got over because they played him to his strengths. They didn't give him some stupid gimmick where he never talked, or was someone's bodyguard or some such shit.
