View Full Version : How do they handle the vacated title?

Is there going to be a tournament like there's been before? Think we'll see another one of those gauntlet matches, or maybe a battle royal?
What do you want to see happen?
Can we all count on a Christian and ADR feud, and if so, who gets the strap first?
Career Highlights:ECW Champion; Intercontinental Champion; World Tag Team Champion; Light Heavyweight Champion; Hardcore Champion; European Champion
^Christian. I know I'm not the only one that wants to see him get the title. But I want ADR to get it too. Not to make light of Edge being gone, because I realize it's going to hurt SmackDown!, but what good do you think will come of this situation? When things like this arise it really puts the ball back in the company's hands to do something exciting. I think I'll be watching SmackDown again for a while.

Del Rio vs. Christian in the Ladder Match, sadly Del Rio will win.
-This would be the best time for Capt. Charisma to finally win.

I'm hoping they continue with the Christian/Del Rio feud. Del Rio 'isn't ready' yet, and Christian is in serious need of a well-deserved title run.

Give it back to Edge when he returns next week.

I think it would be narrow-minded of them to start executing a title feud between Christian and ADR right off the bat. They've already had matches, Christian's already kicked his ass, and they could do a lot to sell the vacated title and get more of the people on the roster involved. I ultimately think it's got to be Christian and ADR. But do you do it right away?
Talking about a vacated title here. There is no champion, no #1 contender. This is going to be a good time to be watching SmackDown. I don't know about everyone else, but I really mark for tournaments.

But I guess with extreme rules that's probably not happening. I hope they don't blow their wad on this situation and have some stupid 10 random guys + 2 awesome dudes in a battle royal or something. You can get so many matches out of this and help establish other guys.

Do a one night tournament at Extreme Rules. Christian, ADR, Kofi, Barrett, Rey, Cody, Drew, Kane. As has been proven lately the belts don't mean fuck all so the current storylines can continue as they are.

I haven't followed WWE for about a year, what is Christian's status like? Is he actually a legit main-eventer or are we just supportin ow bwoii.
I'm a massive Christian fan and want him to be World Champion. But, is he in a position to be credible at the moment? Genuinely asking that, cos last time I saw him he was nowhere near.
Seems too obvious to have Christian win it straight away too, and if my worries are too it'd be an awkward title-run. Comparable, although admittedly quite different, to Rey's run after Eddie died.

I get the impression that he's been steady at the mid-card level, he seemed involved as support cast in SmackDown's main feud. He accompanied Edge to the ring to equalize Alberto Del Rio's huge bodyguard Brodus Clay. He's been booked both strong and week, always kind of floating around in the WWE. Credible threat, never won the world title though.

Big chance he could take the title though. Christian fans should get ready.
For the record, the unprettier "killswitch" is still IMO one of the coolest finishers ever. That alone got me on board with him.

Christian vs the Miz
I wanna see Miz have a shot at being an Undisputed Champion. It would fit his character. He could wrestle the triple threat and squeak out a victory and then face Christian later in the night with the chance to unify the belts only to lose to Christian.
Or...he could lose to Cena and beat Christian and still come out of ER a champion and move the Miz to SD to help give some star power to SD with Edge leaving..

I don't see Del Rio or Christian getting the nod just yet. They seem to be putting some solid momentum behind Del Rio and it would would be short-sighted for them to give him the belt so early and blow their load. Christian never really seemed like a top-tier guy, and despite finding himself intertwined in the Egde/ADR feud, I doubt that the WWE thinks he's ready either.
My money is on a third party getting the belt instead. It's similar to the situation at Vengeance 2007 when CM Punk was scheduled to face Benoit for the ECW title. Benoit was scheduled to win, but obviously no-showed. Instead of throwing the belt on Punk instead they gave it to Morrison - probably because they wanted to slow-build Punk and continue with his planned development. In my mind it's a similar situation for Del Rio - it's too soon for him to get it.
I can see a veteran like 'Taker, Mysterio or Big Show stepping up and acting as a interim champ while they continue with their plans for Del Rio and Christian.
Next Big Thing
04-12-2011, 07:07 PM
It has to come down to Christian or Del Rio. I'm not sure who else they could put the belt on that wouldn't be the same old shit. I don't want to see a Mysterio or Big Show title reign and Taker is probably out till next April.
Let Christian carry the belt as a face and fend off Del Rio for awhile then have him drop it to Barrett at Summer Slam and let some fresh faces get a run.

The seeds for Christian taking the title were being planted anyways. That may have been because they had plans for Edge vs Christian and/or had an inkling that Edge would be gone for a while anyways.
I expect there to be a Battle Royale on Smackdown with ADR taking the belt, leaving Christian to chase. I think it'd work better for him that way.
But if they wanted to keep the pair of them on the backburner...I could see Punk take the title. I mean, why wasn't he throwing his name in the hat for a title shot on Raw?

I endorse this notion and it should be won via Battle Royale to make it come of as a flukey win too.

Unless the writer's actually do something impressive, the belt's going to end up at least temporarily on Kane, Big Show, or Undertaker.
And don't mention that Taker's currently not on SD! after Wrestlemania - that little fact hasn't stopped the WWE writers before.
SD! Spoiler:
Basically, Del Rio was still number one contender, and they held a battle royal for the right to face him. Christian won it. So Christian vs. Del Rio Ladder Match at Extreme Rules for the title.

The face chasing the heel for the title is always the best formula. If they can execute it the same way they had The Rock chase Triple H for the title in 2000, I'm all for it, with the heel looking strong, unlike when they had Triple H chase Stephanie's errand boy for the Undisputed Title at WrestleMania X8
I wonder if they'll still keep Edge on TV? Or is it protocol to take someone off TV once they retire/get injured?

You know what is sad but true? 4 months ago, Barrett would be an obvious pick. WWE struck gold with that guy and he was a credible top 3 heel. But they have COMPLETELY destroyed his character, and this Corre group's been pretty much a disaster, which is a shame because it had promise.
Now Barrett's almost a jobber, Ezekiel Jackson needs to get repackaged AGAIN, and gabriel and wendy's is going nowhere.
I'd love the idea of a tournament, but that's doubtful. I think another fun idea would be a falls count anywhere 30 minute championship scramble between 6 guys.
Christian, ADR, Barrett, Kofi, Cody, Rey

2 things...
1. Did you just compare Christian/Del Rio to Rock/HHH?
2. Rocky was 26, Christian is 37, its time for his fucking title reign.
It would make sense though to have Del Rio win it first and then have Christian take it from him in a rematch.

Who better than Kanyon? GRAND FUCKING KANYON!
As part of the Peepulation, I would love this to be a chance for Christian. I just actually think it would have been more fun if ADR won it first from Edge (and held it longer than half a show, like Ziggler did), and the face had to chase him for it. However, we already have a heel champion on RAW... who knows, maybe A CHALLENGER APPEARS we don't expect to enter the title picture (like "Grotesque" Cody Rhodes). Would've wagered Barrett, but he already has the IC strap, which like the US title, is back on the downswing of meaning next to nothing. I see him being in a program with someone for that thing instead of him going the Warrior route towards the World Title.
However, as already stated here, a tourney is the most likely scenario.

Hey guys don't worry about Barrett, this is just WWE's way of developing stars now, they give talented guys a run with a world title or a big time feud and then cool them down for a while, if they can naturally hook themselves back in then you know they are worth keeping around.
WWE made the perfect choice for Extreme Rules, the match should be amazing. I am a huge Alberto Del Rio fan but you can't pass up this opportunity to give Christian his spotlight. It seems more than right, it's a perfect fit to a bigger puzzle. But this is WWE and anything can happen, Alberto is very deserving of his first run as well. Either way I think it's a feud that could continue another month or so, or even be revisited in the summer. My gut tells me WWE is likely going to give the title to Alberto Del Rio, perhaps not at Extreme Rules but before Summerslam. With Summerslam in LA, Rey Mysterio vs Alberto Del Rio as the Main Event would be huge for the Mexican culture.
I know that if Christian gets the title, we will be in store for many surprises and a lot of great matches so I am really hoping for that.

Christian is a solid guy who I don't think will disappoint, and quite frankly, ADR will do the belt good as well. This is a good feud. I just wish they would have made a bigger deal of a vacated title then one taped episode of SmackDown. Agree or not, you know what I'm talking about - this had much more potential.
