View Full Version : What's the likelihood of GSP/Diaz in November or December of 2011?

Honestly, if GSP beats Shields I don't see how they could let him move up to 185 before doing this fight. Say what you want about Diaz and whether or not you think he could compete with GSP, the fact is this is a fight that could sell a lot of tix.

After Diaz KOs Tyron Woodley, the SF 170 pound division may as well fold into the UFC.

In fact, I'm willing to bet that GSP/Diaz in some kind of Welterweight unification fight could do just as big numbers as GSP/ Silva. Before you jump down my throat for saying that, just look at Silva's PPV buyrates. Plus, GSP could sell out in Canada just by shadow boxing. AND, in terms of hype a pissed off Nick Diaz rambling about being better than GSP and wanting to get paid like a boxer is a hell of a lot more entertaining than Anderson Silva mumbling to himself in Portuguese.

Plus, we know that GSP is down to wrestlefuck and Anderson has no problem staring at you if you choose to fight passive and that could make a terrible fight. At least Diaz will come out swinging or at least talk enough shit from his back to keep the fight entertaining if GSP chooses to keep it on the ground.

I'm not saying that GSP vs. Silva shouldn't happen or that Nick Diaz would beat GSP, I'm just saying that from a fan perspective and even a business perspective putting on GSP/Diaz before GSP moves up wouldn't be a bad idea.

I was under the impression that were were going to keep the UFC and Strikeforce separate, no?

That's what he said, but if the guy has cleaned out his division and the fight could make money, they'll do it. He backpedals on all kinds of stuff he says if it's convenient for them.

GSP by whatever he wants.

I'd rather want a GSP/Silva fight just for the sake of it happening, although I agree it might be a borefest. And I also agree that a buildup and the actual fight of a GSP/Diaz fight might be alot better.

I love Nick Diaz but his kryptonie is big strong wrestlers. GSP is the worst possible match up for Nick.

Dana White Plans On Talking With Nick Diaz After UFC 129

The Nick Diaz camp has been talking lately about potentially jumping over to the world of boxing for Diaz's next fight but if UFC President Dana White has anything to say about that things may turn out different as he plans on sitting down with Diaz next week:

“I’ll say the same thing I always say about Nick. He’s a tough one to deal with. He doesn’t play the game well. I think the kid has potential. Forget about fighting – he has the potential to be a star. But for some reason he’s an anti-star,” White said. “I know for a fact that boxing isn’t for him, because I’ve been in boxing for years. All of the boxers wish they were involved with us.”

“So now that we’re involved, literally after this fight is over, I’m going to fly over to see Nick Diaz. We’re going to sit down and talk.”

If it happens, I hope GSP pushes Diaz's shit in.

I would cum in my own mouth for this fight. Atleast Diaz isn't a pussy and will throw with gsp, plus diaz bjj will have something to say about gsp wrestling.

Nah, Diaz will get taken down and molested for 5 rounds.

That article said nothing about him jumping to UFC though. They might just be hooking him up with another Strikeforce fight.

gsp would win, paul daley was the first person of note diaz has fought in forever. it's not like the pride/ufc days when you could discuss which promotion had the better fighters, now it's UFC>>>>>>>>>>>>everyone else.

I still don't get that. It's all one promotion now... Zuffa. I don't believe from top to bottom the UFC heavyweight division is leaps and bounds better than Strikeforces or that Frankie Edgar is that much greater than Gilbert Melendez.

As far as GSP goes, I've doubted him too many times to bet against him at 170, but I certainly don't think he'd run through Nick Diaz. Diaz has much better stand up than Shields and is a proven finisher. I think if GSP lost vision in his left eye against Diaz, the result may have been a bit different.

I'm not really sure notable competition is an accurate gauge. Prior to beating BJ Penn, Frankie Edgar had wins over the great Matt Veach, Sean "Special Vitamins" Sherk and Hermes Franka. Outside of Sherk, whose success is kind of clouded by steroids, none of those guys would have led anyone to believe that Edgar could hang with Penn.

Please don't do that.

Diaz has wins over Noons, Sakurai, Shamrock, and Daley.. Not to say those guys are Penn and Hughes level but as NBT said they aren't pushovers and would all be competitive in UFC..

If you think a fight between Diaz and GSP would be anymore than a oneside drubbing by GSP than you're reaching. Shields has better wrestling and BJJ than Diaz, GSP won't be scared to take Diaz down. Besides, Woodley will man rape Diaz rendering the point moot, should they actually fight.

I doubt that Diaz could even rin a round against Jon Fitch or Josh Koscheck.

Taking him down is one thing though. Finishing him is another. I wouldn't call wrestlefucking a guy for five rounds a drubbing.

Diaz may not be as good a wrestler as Shields, but few are. Plus, I'd venture to say his BJJ is just as good as GSP's. Diaz is a legit black belt, not one of these guys who got his because he fights in the UFC. If not it will still be good enough to stop GSP from submitting him.

If anything, I see GSP peppering Diaz with shots in the stand up and winning via decision and then apologizing to the crowd once again for not finishing.

Woodley didn't exactly run though Tarec Saffiedine, I don't think he has a chance in hell against Diaz. He'd only be getting that shot because he's the best of what's left, which isn't much.
