View Full Version : 2011 Draft - Who, Where, and Why?

Well, we've seen the yearly WWE Draft anywhere from April to July, and we don't know yet when it's happening this happening, but I figured I'd post my picks and see what you folks think.

By the way, I could potentially see the draft being straight after Extreme Rules on May 2nd's RAW in Miami, but then there's only 2 RAWs to build feuds before Over The Limit. So I'm guessing either the RAW before or after Over The Limit. I think this is the right timeframe so that current feuds don't get too stale, and gives 3/4 shows minimum for new feuds to be established before the new ppv, Capitol Punishment.

John Morrison to Smackdown
Increasingly found 'in the dog house' on RAW and I think going to Smackdown would help fill the face void left by Edge. He needs to be part of the upper card now; competing for US/IC titles will do nothing for him. And since his promo skills haven't improved since his days of the Dirt Sheet and his ECW title reign I think he'll hopefully benefit from being on a pre-recorded show and getting PPV time to showcase his abilities.
Potential hot feuds: Wade Barrett, Jack Swagger, Christian

Alberto Del Rio to RAW
He's on RAW half the time anyway, it seems. Perhaps time to bring him to the "flagship show" for good and install him in some big feuds? Unless they're going to give him the WHC at Summerslam or before, I don't see that he has a hell of a lot left on his plate if he stays on Smackdown.
Potential hot feuds: John Cena, Randy Orton

Sheamus to Smackdown
Is sort of left in a role on RAW now where he gets no mic time whatsoever, and he's really good on the mic so it's a damn shame. Get him into some decent programmes on Smackdown and he'll start to prove his worth again and probably find himself in the WHC picture. Would love to see him Wade and Drew form an alliance as I've mentioned before. Also has great chemistry with Morrison and nobody would complain about a few matches between them.
Potential hot feuds: Christian, Rey Mysterio, Big Show

Cody Rhodes to RAW
It's time. Where Dibiase failed on RAW I believe his former stable-mate will flourish. He's great at drawing heat. Put the US title on him for a run and then try and tease him into the main event. An eventual feud with Orton would be also be great.
Potential hot feuds: Sin Cara, R-Truth, Randy Orton

Daniel Bryan to Smackdown
Ever since his US title feud with Miz he's been criminally under-utilized. Leaving him off the card at Mania with Sheamus was testament to this. Get him more air time, and watch the Danielson marks start to tune in for (or at least tivo) Smackdown. You could even turn him heel.
Potential hot feuds: Rey Mysterio, Heath Slater, Jack Swagger

Justin Gabriel to RAW
I like this guy. It's just time that he got away from his current perception as a spineless Nexus follower. They're starting to have him stand up to Barrett, which is a start, but I think he needs to be kept apart entirely from those guys. Put him on RAW and eventually in the US title picture and I think he stands a good chance of raising his game, possibly gaining enough momentum to turn face at some point.
Potential hot feuds: Evan Bourne, R-Truth, Santino

Ted DiBiase to Smackdown
Completely out of the picture on RAW. Got knocked the fuck out by Lawler and never even got a proper chance to come back. Throw him on Smackdown and try him with anyone.
Potential hot feuds: Christian, Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan

Kofi Kingston to RAW
OR
CM Punk to Smackdown
This depends a lot on when/where Jericho is going to return. If they're bringing Y2J back on RAW before Summerslam, off the back of his DWTS work, then I could see Punk make way on RAW and return to Smackdown to make RAW less heel heavy. I'd really like to see a feud between these two climaxing at Summerslam. I think Punk can bring the best out of Kofi. Would be a great midcard gimmick match (Falls Count Anywhere) for a big event that could help both guys. Have Punk injure Kofi in a match and then Kofi cost Punk his unprecedented third Money in the Bank at the MIB PPV before Summerslam. I'm starting to think Punk on SD makes a lot of sense. After all, Punk has already had recent feuds with Cena and Orton so he'd probably have more to do on SD and would be a definite WHC contender and could provide a great feuds with Christian and Barrett too. Whereas Kofi on RAW could be good for a feud with Miz or Jericho. A lot of this also depends on whether ADR remains on SD.

Rumor has it there is no draft this year but instead a series of trades.

p.s. Your choices are all decent and you make a good argument for them. However, those are all easy fixes ..where are the shocking switches!?

It really doesn't matter at this point. WrestleMania season the brand split goes right out the window, ditto for the month or so after for WrestleMania fallout. The Bragging Rights build is dual-brand by nature. 3-hour Raws always feature everybody.

Just end the fucking thing. Keep it so that guys only appear on one show per week, but having no split allows them to put different guys on different shows each week.

I really couldn't care less. There's no order within the brands anymore, and if anyone on Smackdown impresses management they just suddenly pop up on Raw unexplained anyway.

I like the way it is right now, it's fun.

I doubt Orton would go to Smackdown, because he's Orton and WWE's #2 guy, and Undertaker going to Raw would mean fuck all since he's never around anyway.

Morrison and Bryan to Smackdown would be good as they'd get a better chance to shine (and show off) there.

Well if he's their #2 guy why not have them on their #2 show and give a chance for up and comers on the (supposedly) A show? Now I know Taker is a reach but SD usually ends up getting gutted at the draft anyway and their isn't much left to deprive them of these days. Plus I suppose I'm getting tired of the same ole hosses in Kane, Big Show, Great Khali getting moved I don't think there's been a year they haven't been moved.

Smackdown needs some starpower, especially with Edge retiring and Undertaker being out.

Yet as stated, every time they get it, they get fucked over and lose said guys to Raw.

I agree with Peep 100% on this. Kofi to Raw tho, I can't see Punk going BACK to Smackdown after just a little while on Raw.

Yeah, but, right now, they don't have ONE TOP GUY...it's Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio and Christian...

Fuck the gay draft. The draft was okay back when they had a roster people gave a flying shit about.

By people I mean me.

They don't respect the division of brands anyway...

...a Smackdown guy will appear out of nowhere on RAW and it'll be like "Yeah, he was traded, so he's on RAW now"...

Smackdown really is lacking in the "top guy" department, I completely agree. Undertaker is hurt too much to be the top guy. Del Rio is on his way to the top, but there is no top face to feud with. Mysterio is no longer a top face and neither is Big Show (regardless of how many times they try to force him on us.) Who does that leave? Kane? Orton, Cena, and HHH on the same show is crazy, but I can understand WWE wanting all of the top names on the "flagship show." I also agree that the split doesn't mean much anymore, but people need some reason to watch SD.

my wish is that the entire smackdown roster is traded to raw for just cena. then its finally not whether we can/can't see him, only that we don't have to
