Edited the Silva/Okami title instead of creating a new thread

We can stop the talks of a super fight between Georges St Pierre and Anderson Silva. At least for the time being.

The UFC’s middleweight superstar has now agreed to rematch the rightful number 1 contender Yushin Okami in the main event at UFC Rio.

UFC president Dana White released the match up to USA Today earlier this afternoon.

UFC Rio will likely be coined as UFC 134. Although not official, the event is expected to take place August 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. All of the UFC’s Brazilian fighters are hoping to get placed on the evening’s card and many are expected to make an appearance.

Okami last saw action against Nate Marquardt at UFC 122. While the fight was initially declared a number 1 contender fight, many had counted the Japanese fighter out when talks of a super fight between Silva and GSP started to emerge. Okami has won 6 out of his last 7 fights.

Silva needs little introduction. The long time reigning middleweight champion and pound for pound best fighter in the world, Silva was last seen dispatching fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 126. Silva currently rides a 14 fight winning streak, the leagues longest in history.

Silva and Okami originally fought in 2006. It is the last loss on the champion’s professional record. Anderson was disqualified due to an illegal upkick at a Rumble on The Rock event that took place in Hawaii.

Makes sense though. Not having Anderson on the Brazil card would have been a mistake.

Okami is a very skilled, disciplined fighter. This is not an easy out for Silva.

In a report coming out of the Brazilian based Tatame.com, a pair of former UFC champions will collide in a rematch of epic proportions.

Having faced each other once prior, Forrest Griffin and Shogun Rua are set to collide on the main card of the highly anticipated UFC Rio card.

In their first meeting, Forrest Griffin was able to secure a submission victory of Rua and went on to beat Rampage Jackson for the light heavyweight title.

After defeat, Shogun bounced back with victories over Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell which earned him two fights with then champ, Lyoto Machida to eventually pick up the UFC crown.

UFC 134 is set to take place on Aug 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Earlier this week, we reported on Royce Gracie's probable return to the UFC for this summers event in Brazil. One of the question marks regarding Royce's return is who the possible opponent could be. Given Royce's age and inactivity, there's obviously some speculation as to what level Royce can still compete at. However, MMA.tv seems to have uncovered a potential answer to this question, as it was discovered that UFC 1 tournament participant Art Jimmerson, has been added to the UFC roster page on UFC.com.
Additionally, Fullmount.co.uk reported the news that Art Jimmerson has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Gi. Are these preparations being made for a possible UFC 1 rematch? Furthermore, with the event being in Brazil, would it be possible to let Royce compete using his Gi? Along with training pictures he sent to Fullmount.co.uk, he also passed along a message that certainly sounds like he's not only ready for a rematch, but the likely candidate as well.
"Royce will not dictate this one! I will not allow him to take me to the GROUND!"
For newer fans of the sport that don't remember Jimmerson, he was the fighter at UFC 1 that is most notable for wearing one boxing glove in his fight with Royce. Jimmerson was submitted by Gracie in the first round, and hasn't competed in mixed martial arts since then, but has stayed in the gym, as he's also the striking coach at the UFC Gym in Rosemead, California. Is a Gracie/Jimmerson rematch in the works? A fight with Royce would obviously be a way to pay tribute to Royce and the original UFC, and while none of this can be confirmed just yet, one has to wonder if it's possible this is all just a coincidence.
