View Full Version : Wrestling Update Needed.

I've literally done this since 2003 - I watch wrestling religiously for anywhere between 6 months to 2 years, then start to become bored and don't watch a minute of wrestling for the same sorta length of time.

Anyway, last time I watched was in late 2009/early 2010 and I hands down preferred TNA by a country mile to WWE back then. Cena/Orton was boring the life out of me, the crowds were so dead it made it uncomfortable to watch, Swagger and Sheamus got WORLD TITLE RUNS ridiculously prematurely and WWE had recently decided to make PPV's Gimmick Matches. IE - Elimination Chamber and Hell in a Cell. I can't put into words how ridiculous I thought this was, and for quite a while, I solely watched TNA. The lesser of two evils. Almost the opposite of WWE. Rather than matches that didn't have enough 'moves', it had too many. Instead of WWE's no controversy in terms of 'anything can happen', swerves, innovation, storylines/brawls etc, TNA had too much. Dead crowds of WWE compared to TNA's very vocal crowd that chant stupid shit. 'THIS IS AWESOME' every single night. I'd rather too much than not enough, but not long after I stopped watching TNA too... fast forward to now.

... Heard about The Rock coming back, and watched WrestleMania, wasn't impressed overall and wasn't gonna watch again, but then I broke my foot at work, and last week had 'that conversation' where you talk about 'How great WWF was from 98-01' (with non-wrestling fans), and I felt that familiar urge to throw myself into the wrestling world. Tying in with being home-bound by a cast and crutches I thought what better time than to 'try to get back into wrestling'.

I watched the two weeks of RAW since 'Mania and actually really enjoyed them. I was happy to see that stables seem to be making a return, happy to hear vocal crowds, and just generally was interested in what was going on. I watched TNA and thought it was dogshit. Huge brawl. Swerve. Poor acting. Bad story-telling. Hogan and Flair zzzzzzz.

Anyway, so I've come crawling back to wrestling and would like to be updated. Back-story wasn't needed I know but I'm bored at home with a broken foot so fuck you I'll be as long-winded as I possibly can.

SOMEONE PLEASE:

Sum up what's happened in 2010/2011. In both TNA/WWE.

- Where's Batista? Jericho? Any other notable firings/people leaving/switches?
- Overall has TNA improved, or has it not really progressed?
- Alberto Del Rio, Sin Cara, other new guys? Potential?

Any updates will be much appreciated, help a cripple get a hobby.

Thank you :y:

Batista "retired" to go fight in Mixed Martial Arts. He still hasn't had any fights.

Miz is WWE champion, Edge just retired from wrestling, Christian vs Del Rio for the WHC at Extreme Rules in a ladder match, Sheamus is U.S. Champ, The Corre has the tag team titles and the IC title, rift starting between Barrett, Gabriel, and Jackson, Brie Bella is the Diva's Champ and nobody cares, Batista left WWE for MMA but it never happened, Jericho is on Dancing with the Stars, Lawler and Cole are fueding, Jim Ross is back, WM 28 main event is Rock vs Cena in Miami, Sin Cara has botched his entrance 2 out of 3 times, but he looks good in the ring, John Morrison is a pussy, Melina is a cunt, TNA is still complete shit, Hogan wants to wrestle Anderson, Jeff Hardy vs Sting was the worst main event ever, that's about it really.

The big news is Edge was forced to retire due to injury.

Orton is boring as fuck.
Michael Cole is the only reason to watch wrestling. (maybe Cody Rhodes too)

That should suffice for now.

Who are the Corre? And what is Nexus? I've completely missed all this stuff.

CM Punk looks like he's still the man. How was his 2010?

And what's with the TPWW mad hate for Matt Hardy?

CM Punk has been on fire for the last year! He was injured for a few months, so they put him on the announce team and he was brilliant at it. He announced NXT Season 3 and just completely tore the show to pieces (in a sense that the show was crap, but him mocking it made it awesome).

You obviously missed all the excitement with the Nexus too. Bit stale and drawn out at the moment, but when they debuted they went after Cena, and for the first few weeks just kept invading during matches and tearing shit up. The first attack was incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duHAxhmarRY (embedding disabled).

You asked, so I'll let you know. Or I'll show you, what happened at Victory Road.

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lckr9OLR2Ow?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lckr9OLR2Ow?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

Basically, Jeff got fucked up on something before his match and was in no condition to wrestle. So they called an audible while they were out there and Sting was told to get the match over ASAP, and it wound up being like a minute. Jeff tried to kick out, but Sting didn't let him, because he was told to cut it short.

And TNA still hasn't fired him. Even though he has charges still pending. And he fucked over a PPV main event. Which they could have fixed but instead put that match on.

Cody Rhodes was dashing and now he's hideous due to getting Rey's knee brace in his face and wears a mask.

Dolph Ziggler (Nicky from the Spirit Squad) was World Heavyweight Champion for about 30 minutes after Edge was forced to vacate the title only to beat him back for it later in the same show.

Miz and Kane both won Money in the Bank at the Money in the Bank PPV last year. Kane cashed in his contract immediately and won the Heavyweight Title, holding on to it for a while while feuding with the Undertaker. The Miz stalked the Champs on RAW for months before cashing in on an injured Orton on RAW to win the belt, which he's held since. There was no MITB match at WM because of the PPV.

First time I've seen that Victory Road video. TNA need to put the fans first and cut Jeff loose, let him go kill himself in the indies if he wants to get fucked up and wrestle.

Jericho is a dancer now.

Grandmaster Sexay, Booker T, Trish Stratus, Kevin Nash, The Rock & Austin came back.

Mike Adamle went from jobber ringside interviewer to botch ridden ECW commentator to lulzfest Raw GM to future endeavoured.

Test died.

TNA did an ECW rehash. Wasnt very good, had Joel Gertner though.

Jeff Hardy made a pretty butterfly world title belt then got fucked up in some crack house so Sting beat him up or sumthing.

Basically you should of kept not watching wrestling.

Thoughts & Observations:
(1) TNA's belt looks ridiculous
(2) Jeff Hardy can GTFO
(3) I wish Sting would do about a 1 year run in WWE, wrestle Taker at Wreslemania and then they both retire

During the Nexus' initial gang attack:

Interesting stuff. Thanks all of you for your help.

Seriously shocked watching that Victory Road thing... Jeff Hardy isn't fired? And didn't Hogan put him in his twitter status the other day? I've always defended Jeff Hardy, but fuck that, no-one can support him after that. Selfish isn't the word.

So, overall would you say WWE is better now than it was 1 year ago? And TNA? I know watching myself would allow me to find out from a personal opinion but just wanna know what overall the feeling is? :)

WWE is definitely better than it was a year ago, but sadly Wrestlemania was pretty crappy and left a horrible taste in my mouth.

TNA is meh. For every good thing they do, they do two stupid things to counter it. But the fact TNA is still putting up with all of Hardy's crap pretty much shows they have no respect for themselves, so why should we?

The IWC turned on longterm "Internet Darling" Matt Hardy when he repeatedly posted videos in which he bitched about his position in WWE in an attempt to get released from his contract. Essentially he pushed the thing that "we" loved him for too far and that annoyed "us".

More recently, the IWC turned on longterm "Internet Darling" John Morrison because he is a "bitch" who "allowed" his girlfriend to sleep with other guys. Whilst the situation doesn't really affect us in any way, shape or form and we do not know the full story, JoMo is now in the IWC Doghouse despite cries for him to be pushed to the Main Event just a week before.

In other "The IWC is Stoopid" news, WWE ran a promo featuring a man in a long leather trenchcoat standing in the rain infront of a cabin followed by the numbers 2 21 11. STING was DEFINATELY coming to WWE to fued with Taker heading into Mania.

Of course that was until the arena that was due to host raw on 2/21/11 released a promo stating that Undertaker would return on that edition of Raw. People dispelled this using such evidence as "Taker has never worn boots like that before" and STILL thought Sting was coming to WWE.

The following week a new promo aired using the song "Ain't No Grave". The promo was definately for Taker...unless you were retarded enough to convince yourself otherwise.

Taker returned to Raw on 2/21/11. Sting did not debut in WWE. Some of the IWC bitched.

In surprising news, The Miz - former reality TV star, Tough Enough contestant, SmackDown Host and all round hated wrestler turned out to be fucking AWESOME!! Most of the IWC admitted they were wrong to have written the guy off a nobody and were impressed by his drive, ambition and determination. Some were still stuck in 2006.

lol, gotta love the IWC.

Didn't the Morrison/Batista/Melina thing happen years ago?

Further to the Matt Hardy stuff, I was trying to understand what this whole Hardys/Venis/CM Punk/Paul London thing is all about... From looking at some YouTube vids, it seems like Matt Hardy seems to be 'intoxicated' during most of them (unless he's just like that?), and Venis seems to be just trying to get himself in the limelight. I saw Hardy say it was all a work. Has this since been proved right/wrong?

The Hardys' shoot on CM Punk. Paul London's piss-take of Matt Hardy and a few random Hardy videos I've watched on YouTube. I'm interested to know what it's all about?

Can't believe that one year ago, Matt was still pretty popular from what I can remember, and Jeff was kinda hit and miss but still overall ultra popular. And now, one year later they seem to have lost so much respect and both look fucked. I don't know if I've got the wrong impression, but that's how it seems to me?

I missed wrestling :D

Oh, and I like The Miz. Hate his orange skin, but think he looks solid in the ring, he's entertaining and is easy to hate as a mark. Not sure about World Title material yet but I say that on the back of not watching WWE for over a year, which isn't really fair.

I don't really know. I think I watched one video from the whole thing (the one where Jeff took credit for Punk being over). As far as being a "work" goes...I guess it was really.

Matt wanted his release from WWE so he could go to TNA to be with Jeff and to be used "properly". WWE were reluctant to release him as TNA were promoting "They" a group of as-yet-unseen guys (who ended up being a union of Hogan, Bischoff, Jarrett, Abyss and Jeff Hardy) and didn't want Matt to be able to be part of that. As soon as that reveal was done, Matt was granted his release.

So, for all intents and purposes Matt played the part of a loudmouth loose cannon in order to get his release and that's what he got.

Don't forget TNA running their own 2/21/11 promo for 3/3/11, which was a complete rip off of WWE's, down to the font. The IWC ripped into it as pathetic and second-rate. It wound up being Sting, who beat Hardy on the 3/3/11 Impact, and lead to Hardy vs. Sting at Victory Road.

<blink>BREAKING NEWS</blink>

The "collective" known as the "IWC" has metaphorically shit a brick over Dolph Ziggler getting a haircut.
