ITS ON!
A heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson will headline a July 30 Strikeforce event on Showtime in the Chicago area, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
Though MMAJunkie.com on Monday reported the possibility of the fight and the location, Jonathan Snowden at SBNation.com and Josh Gross at ESPN.com on Tuesday each reported that the fight is expected to officially be announced shortly.
The Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. is expected to play host to the event, the second time Strikeforce has headlined the venue with a Fedor Emelianenko fight.
The Emelianenko vs. Henderson fight will technically take place at heavyweight, though both fighters are likely to come into the bout close to the discussed 220 lb. catchweight.
Both fighters enter the fight heading in different directions, with Emelianenko losing his last two bouts to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva and Henderson knocking out Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante in his last two fights.

Has Hendo fought at 220 before? That's one of the things that I've always felt fucks him up. Going up and down in weight like that. I'll be rooting for Hendo though.

He naturally walks around at 220, like Couture.. Never competed above 205 but I think he can hang with Fedor, who prolly should have been fighting at 205..

i heard dana say fedor could probably compete at 170 if he wanted since anthony johnson walks round bigger than him :'( he is a flabby cunt. hendo vs fedor is a good match up though, since they both have good knockout power. i'm actually interested in this mofo.

170 would be pretty hard to make, but he could probably make 185 if he wanted too.

it'd be fucking weird seeing fedor ripped.

fedor is allergic to weight training, supplements and cardio

To be fair, I haven't seen Fedor gas before, even after getting drubbed by Big Foot he didnt look the slightest bit tired, Silva looked visibly more tired.

Fedor's gas tank has never been a problem for him even back with the Pride 10 min first round..

Ok Fedor should NOT be fighting 205.... why does everyone say that? because hes a little flabby? Because hes smaller than other heavyweights?
Hes looked the same his entire career and hes fought huge guys... his entire career.
Fedor is getting older. Hes starting to slow down. Dropping to a weight class where the guys will be faster and more athletic is NOT what he wants to do if he wants to be successful.
How do u work that out?
Hendo is the 205lbs champ and hes hardly a spring chicken.

You are aware that hendo is a natural 185lber right???
Also Hendo is the 205 strikeforce champ.
And seeing how Hendo's natural weight is 185 so yes it would make sense that he would be moving up where his slowing speed would not be as apparent due to his fighting bigger guys

i can't say i noticed fedor slowing any, i think he just got overconfident or took his eye off the ball whilst fighting non-stop jobbers. the bigfoot fight shows he might get outmuscled more often now the bigger guys are better trained than back in the day though.

Sourlthwood is right..
Can't really compare guys like Lesnar, Carwin, and Cain to the sideshow freaks Pride used to have at HW..
Also, at Pride 33, when Hendo won the 203 championship, he said it was easy for him to "move up" cause that was closer to his natural weight than 185..

Ok.... geting outstruck by a guy antonio silva's size when you are fedors size ad used to outstrike cro cop nog etc..... or getting caught in a submission that you would get out of earlier in the career against a great like nog then yes id say that is a dramatic sign of slowing down. Now is it from not training or aging?... that's a good question. And I agree you can't compare the pride guys to carwin lesnar or cain but fedor hasn't fought any of those guys either.
As far as hendo saying 205 is his natural weight... there's a difference in natural weght as in walking around weight, which is what he was referrng, and the weight that your body type is most suited for competition. His body is more suited for competition at 185 dueto his height, reach, strength compaired to the other 185 lb fighters. Just like people not understanding why gsp cuts so muc in the other thread. He is the king of kings in welter weight but would struggle at middleweight because he's giving up reach and size. Hendo has the advantageof having an iron jaw and bazooka of a right arm to cary him at upper weight fights.

i'd have called the werdum loss overcommitting and overconfidence. the bigfoot loss, i dunno. he's always come out of fights looking pretty beat up, it's not like he was ever untouchable. i don't think he was outstruck on his feet, he could have perhaps tried to not hold his hands lower than the average rocky film. he suffered when held against the fence too.
really he's just been left behind. he's been fighting jobbers for years and the standard of mma's elite has matched and surpassed him. he still hasn't been knocked out though so he still has that going for him. i don't think fedor's got any worse, just maybe overconfident, and mma in 2011 is too rounded and technical to get away with shit he was doing 6 years ago, he isn't comfortable fighting in a cage either, it seems.
