View Full Version : I'm shocked at how much Booker T has improved on commentary

I really thought his was going to be another Randy Savage thing where he'd just spout off one liners and catch phrases, but he's gotten a ton better.

He's improving, but I wouldn't say a ton. Booker's too much in face mode. I do enjoy the way he puts over Drew McIntyre, but it was surreal to have Booker behind Drew and Cole behind Masters in their SmackDown! match.
Cole still continually owns Booker on commentary, though, which doesn't make Booker look too good. There are times when he looks down-right awful.

I always thought Booker T did great on commentary. I still remember his Black Snow days with Chet Lemon.

Tonight on Smackdown during Del Rio's entrance...
Cole: Del Rio having this retirement party for Edge, how thoughtful.
Booker: Thoughtful!?! Was he thoughtful when he put Edge out of this business!?!
**silence**
Just one example. He says some really stupid things sometimes. He doesn't seem to think before he speaks. lol

He was exposed during the Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes segment, too.
Booker: No, I don't condone this, but a man defending himself, I'm okay with that.
*Rey Mysterio is continuing the assault on Cody Rhodes*
Cole: If Mysterio is just defending himself, then why doesn't he walk away right now?
*Silence*

He is certainly a ton more tolerable than he was when he first started, but he's no Gordon Solie just yet. He's hardly a Lord Alfred Hayes.

I put that on Cole more than Booker. Just because a guy used to wrestle or was decent on the mic doesn't mean that he'll fit seamlessly into the role of a commentator.
Instead of torpedoing Booker, Cole as the senior-most announcer should find a way to work around it or quickly transition to another topic. If he did that, it would mask some of Booker's imperfections in commentary before he improved.
Same deal with King and Striker where Striker would ask him a question about a move or wrestling "x" type of wrestler and King would give some kind of half ass response that belittled the question or made Striker seem dumb for asking it.

I think Booker T is doing a good job. I like smackdown better now bc of his commentary.

You do realize that Booker T is black, right?

Yeah I know that. If I were Cole I'd keep checking to make sure he didn't steal his wallet and watch. But his commentary ain't bad. I just hope he stays at the same hotel they put R Truth, Mark Henry and others of that type.
