View Full Version : Christian World Title Victory Celebration Thread *Now with spoilers from inconsiderate dickheads!*

since it's now blatantly obvious christian will win on sunday, i figured i might as well kick this thread off.

Mr. Nerfect
04-26-2011, 02:38 AM
Well, why not? Alberto Del Rio could still win the World Title and throw everyone for a loop, as the WWE has tried being tricky like that before, but a Christian victory at Extreme Rules -- solidified by him ensuring the World Heavyweight Title is not taking to RAW by the arrogant villain seems like a great way to kick off his first WWE World Championship run.

Christian should get drafted to RAW too tomorrow.

That would be funny.

KIRA

Really hope they let Christan run with this instead of having it be a short pity run

plus I hope Christian pulls out the stops and shows the higher ups that he can be a credible ridiculously over champ

Mr. Nerfect
04-26-2011, 03:37 AM
I'm curious as to who Christian will first feud with. Orton? Henry? Barrett? Rhodes?

Tom Guycott
04-26-2011, 05:27 AM
I see a swerve coming. Christian doesn't win, only because it's so "obvious" he's going to. You know how the 'E likes to pull a fast one on the IWC know-it-alls, even if they rectify the situation the next night on RAW and/or Smickdoon!

My predictions are usually wrong, however*. This time, I'm banking on it being 100% false as usual, so that everyone sees a Captain Charisma championship reign, and a hopeful return of those awesome tracksuits (they even had them and a snippet of "At Last" featured in those SD! bumps last week, so I don't think they see them as a TNA thing like someone suggested before ).

*This is me trying to use my shitty precognitions for the forces of good and the Peepulation everywhere! Reverse psychology rules!

Or Del Rio wins and gets stripped of the title the next night or something because it is Smackdown exclusive. Gives Del Rio a legit gripe that he should be a champion. And it's not like WWE is above ignoring the fact that champions can switch brands and keep their title.

Or even better, Del Rio wins, Cena wins, and we finally get that unification of the WWE and World title... =/

Let me just say that if they don't give Christian a decent run I.E. more than a month I'm punching the first child I see wearing Cena merchandise next time I attend a show consequences be damned.

WWE do you really want the potential assault of your target audience hanging over your heads? Do the right thing.

I feel WWE could try to swerve us somehow as well, the US and IC titles are both on Smackdown along with part of the tag titles, what if WWE decides to try both big titles on Raw?

On paper it looks horrible, but who knows, maybe they got a good idea...

Now there is like nobody that I care to see Christian feud with on Smackdown! for the title, I would have liked Punk, but oh well.

Evil Vito
04-26-2011, 08:15 PM
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, my money is on Del Rio winning. Either both world titles and both secondary titles get unified, or they run an angle where whoever wins the SD MITB in July has the pressure of the entire brand to take down Del Rio and bring the belt back.</font>

Gertner
04-26-2011, 08:17 PM
Christian pop was non existent on Raw. He's another IWC wet dream that they want to believe is more popular than he really is ala Daniel Bryan and we all know how that's worked out.

Rock Bottom
04-27-2011, 06:56 AM
Christian is not a Daniel Bryan. He's also one half of one of the best tag teams, and at that, one of the last good tag teams.

He isn't ridiculously over but I think you mistake most people liking him for people actually thinking he's super popular.

Gertner
04-27-2011, 07:25 AM
But shouldn't your World Champ be ridiculously over one way or another?

Tommy Gunn

Not a Christian fan, I'd be disappointed if he won.

Del Rio being on Raw and and with no MITB fix available, I think Christian has a pretty solid chance. Would the E take both championships to Raw for a month?

Ok I've decided, Christian wins, or we get a title unification sometime in May.

Although I'd love to see Christian leave with the title Sunday, I'm not going to bother getting my hopes up even a little bit, as they could just as easily have Alberto win and the next day he could be traded right back to SD! (though for whom, I'm not exactly sure... :-\ ) as a surefire way of getting in another irritating swerve for all the "IWC smarks" out there. :nono:

We'll see though. Although Hell would probably freeze over before Vince gives Christian a world title reign, no matter how " long overdue" or "well-deserved" it would seem for him. You have to remember that Vince could be and probably still is, holding a grudge against him for going to TNA in 2005 and winning the title there a few times over his 3+ years there. It wouldn't be the first time he's "punished" a talent for jumping companies.

His matches as ECW champion were some of the most oddly fun matches to watch by far during that time.

I always loved how he would always fuck around during his matches and just have fun with them. I'd love to see him get a long title run. Maybe the funnest guy to watch in the ring when he's given "top dog" status and not forced to just get squashed or be super serious.

If Christian doesn't win, my gripe is that he looks like a choker. He will essentially HAVE to turn heel, and who else is there as a top face on SmackDown! besides Orton? Kane? Sin Cara? Daniel Bryan?

Christian wins, gets confronted by Orton, but Orton gets tied up in another program while Christian deals with Mark Henry, goes over there, and eventually we get Christian vs. Orton -- face vs. face.

With the rumored Cena/Del Rio main event at Summerslam, Christian winning isn't anywhere near a foregone conclusion. Having those two main event a PPV, with a unification on the line (also rumored at some point last year), would be a hell of a main event.

Mind you, I don't want that to happen (title unification or Del Rio victory).

Yeah, except with a vacant title right now and Christian going after the belt vs. Del Rio, it would make more sense to wait until considerably after this Sunday...maybe this summer or fall sometime. Can't just have him turn heel overnight...with Christian, he's the kind of guy who as a world champ (if it happens) would need a pretty decent build-up before it happens.

Unification of the secondary titles?

Not saying it's a great plan, but its not the most unlikely one ever.

So all that would do would leave everything the same as it is now except there would be no secondary titles. (Assuming you mean unify the seconday titles and make it Smackdown's major title.)

I didn't think I would feel it that much, but honestly I don't think I have "marked out" that much/got that excited at anything for a long time, possibly ever.

Really should have closed the PPV. I felt that there should have been confetti, fireworks, locker room emptying and hoisting him up on their shoulders... the whole nine yards.

This is awesome. Classic match and moment for Christian fans. I had begun to think his window had closed.

That made it all the better. I truly believe(d) that if he didn't win it during this Del Rio feud, he never would. It was his hope shot, and with the changes made during the draft and the ever-growing youth movement, there would just be others running with the belt.

So in a way, I went into this match with a real life "last chance" mentality. High stakes. And I saw it going either way.
In ladder matches, you can always get a feel for potential finishes in advance. So when Christian took out Del Rio and went for the belt, I thought he might have it.
Then Brodus took him out.

At that point, I figured it was over. That was his hope shot and Del Rio was going to get it. But then he took a long time and milked the cocky angle, and the Edge appearance sort of sealed it.

That whole match really worked me good. Awesome stuff.

It was about time, an excellent match for him to win the title in, he won it 'against the odds', Edge didn't lay a hand on ADR or his cohorts. They booked him winning strongly.

I don't think everyone is going to cheer Orton and ignore the other faces on SD. Christian will have some time to get an Edge style following. If they give him the mic and get him being insulting about all the others, he'll be fine.

At last you're world champion!!!

It's about 6 years overdue. He left because he wasn't feeling appeciated and he made a pretty impact in TNA for a few years. He came back and pretty much had to start at the bottom. He worked his way up and finally got his big chance in the main event picture, and then was injuried. I sort of thought that it might have been over that that point, but he fought back harder than ever cause that's just how he rolls.

Here's to what I hope is a long-ass reign and Randy Orton you can go to hell and you die if you try to challenge him for that title.

Well he never held the TNA Title (after they dumped the NWA affiliation) so...NO.

Technically, he did. Although TNA lost the rights to the NWA titles, they still had physical possession of the belts (probably because the TNA belts weren't ready until the Impact tapings), which gave the impression that he lost the NWA title to Kurt Angle.

Technically, he did. Although TNA lost the rights to the NWA titles, they still had physical possession of the belts (probably because the TNA belts weren't ready until the Impact tapings), which gave the impression that he lost the NWA title to Kurt Angle.
The NWA World Heavyweight and World Tag Team Championships were contested for in TNA until the morning of May 13, 2007. On that day, NWA's Executive Director Robert Trobich announced that the NWA were ending their five–year agreement with TNA, which had allowed them full control over both titles. Trobich went on to state that effective that morning, then-NWA World Heavyweight Champion Christian Cage and the Team 3D pairing of Brother Ray and Brother D-Von, then-NWA World Tag Team Champions, were stripped of their respective championships. The alleged motivation behind these actions was because Cage refused to defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against wrestlers from NWA territories. That same day, TNA were scheduled to produce their Sacrifice 2007 PPV event, in which both Cage and Team 3D were to defend their respective championships. On the card, Cage was scheduled to defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Kurt Angle and Sting in a match involving three competitors, also known as a Three Way Match.

That night before, the onscreen graphic used to refer to the champions and their respective championships credited both Cage and Team 3D as still being NWA Champions.

However, the ring announcers for the encounters proclaimed the matches as being strictly for the "World Heavyweight Championship" or the "World Tag Team Championship".Angle defeated Cage and Sting to win the "World Heavyweight Championship".

TNA held a set of tapings for the next two episodes of TNA Impact! on May 14, with the episodes set to air on tape delay on May 17 and May 24, 2007. At the first taping, Angle came to the ring with the new TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt and announced that he was the "new TNA World Heavyweight Champion". TNA commentator Mike Tenay announced when Angle made his way to the ring that Management Director Jim Cornette, TNA's on-screen authority figure at the time, "made the decision that due to TNA's growing worldwide exposure, the company needed to have its own TNA title belts"; there–by not acknowledging the NWA ending their agreement with TNA and giving a storyline explanation as to why the championship was created.Later on during the broadcast, Cornette stripped Angle of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship due to a controversial finish to the match at Sacrifice. Cornette then announced the championship would be contested for at TNA's Slammiversary PPV event on June 17, 2007 in a King of the Mountain match—a match which involves five participants racing to gain a pinfall or submission to become eligible to hang a championship belt to win. On May 15, 2007 Jeremy Borash unveiled the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt on that day's edition of TNA's online podcast TNA Today.
So technically he was "World Champion" in a period between the belt being "NWA World Champ" and "TNA World Champ" and thus never TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

Oh quit pouting. Christian's world title run was just like Mysterio's sympathy run after Eddie's death. Edge had to retire so they put the belt on Christian out of sympathy and the emotional connection with Christian created by the Edge situation.
At least he dropped the belt to an established star and didn't have to go through the horrible run Mysterio did. I do believe that this is horrible decision because Christian can be very entertaining and would have been interested to see what he could have done with a decent reign as champion, but there is still potential that this is the start of a much needed Heel turn for Christian or a program with him being the mega-face chasing the dastardly Orton who might be turning heel.

Ah, well, guess I sorta should have expected it. You just know Vince still has so much hate for Christian, so he only gave him a "that's all you get for now for jumping to TNA, you son-of-a-bitch! Be grateful!" title run.

Hopefully VKM will pass the reigns on soon though and we'll eventually get to see a good 3-6 month run with the belt for Christian though.

Now that was a good point. That time, it was because Brock Lesnar chose to be exclusive to SmackDown, taking the WWE title with him, therefore RAW had no World Champion. They should've done a tournament or a battle royal to determine the WHC, instead of handing someone the title.

I think history shows that once you have one reign under your belt, its more thank likely you'll get a second. Edge's first reign was awful, but now he's had like eleven. This just makes it more believable for Christian to win again, and his stock has increased because of it.

And looking at Smackdown's roster Christian is basically the number two face so should Randy Orton ever be injured again (god forbid) it would be more than likely to see Christian take his spot.

Or some positive shit like that.

The Fugitive
05-04-2011, 11:50 PM
Will say this much for those disappointed in his short reign (I'm personally not a fan of short title reigns, but not really affected by this), you could walk away with this small piece of trivia that might be of some consolation, if you value accomplishments as much as title reigns.

Out of everyone's who has walked through the doors of WWE, they have only been 10 Grand Slam Champions. Shawn, Trips, Jericho, Angle and Eddie share that honor (along with Kane, RVD, Booker, Jeff Hardy and JBL). With his title win, Christian finds himself among those names and makes 11. I'll say that's not a bad feather in your cap.

I think history shows that once you have one reign under your belt, its more thank likely you'll get a second. Edge's first reign was awful, but now he's had like eleven. This just makes it more believable for Christian to win again, and his stock has increased because of it.

It's true! It only took Kane eleven years! :p

Im glad it was you.

You know if anything has devalued the championships, it's all these kids walking around with replicas over their shoulders.

Why can't Teddy Long pronounced Christian's name correctly?

Why can't Teddy Long pronounced Christian's name correctly?
Because he's old and black

If Christian is to turn heel, he needs to beat up Long whilst shouting "My name is Christian! ChristIAN!".

Yes, you would. Also, your avatar of Christian holding the World Heavyweight Title actually looks quite bad-ass. The dude suits the belt.

This guy on Wrestleview.com says it well.

With Edge retiring they had to get the title on Christian because he was the only logical person to put it on. However, because of the suddenness of the retirement they never had time to let it build and turn Christian from a mid-carder to a main eventer. To me it felt like a cheap win. Now they give him that rub and let him chase after it. I believe there’s much better story in him actually chasing it and finally getting it rather than just having it handed over to him like it was on Sunday. I’m really excited to see what Christian does next and I’m looking forward to the return match against Randy Orton. Could this be the beginning of a Christian heel turn?

They should have given it to Del Rio and left him on Smackdown

Here is what I honestly think. I wanted Christian to win the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight title ever since he became the ECW World Heavyweight Champion.

I was really happy to see him finally win the big one. But to me, his title win was easily over shadowed by Edge. It seemed as if he was a charity case somewhat similar to Rey winning the belt at Wrestlemania after the passing away of Eddie Guerrero.

I would love to see him get another title reign but after a better and a stronger build up.

Don't worry, he'll get the title back.

I hope they pull off a Kurt Angle versus Booker-T for the WCW title kinda thingy which they did years ago on Smackdown.

I can't see Christian winning the belt back on SmackDown to be honest. I think they'll have the rematch and Mark Henry will get involved leading to a DQ. Not sure where they will go after that. Triple Threat? Henry v Christian for No 1 Contendership?

Mr. Nerfect
05-09-2011, 05:58 AM
The Triple Threat at Over the Limit is probably the most likely scenario. To be honest, I could see them switching it back to Christian there, after he pins Henry, and have Orton tell Christian he needs to prove himself against Orton one-on-one. I wouldn't place money on that happening, but it's not like Christian's being buried here.

Just something to consider about Christian's title win:

Try to recall the last person to win a World Title for the first time as a babyface. The last time I recall someone doing that would be Jeff Hardy in 2008. Just something to consider.

CM Punk was a face wasn't he?

Didn't Punk last win it from Hardy in what has essentially the start of a heel turn?

Lock Jaw

He won it before then as well as a face. Ending with the punt that was the basis of his whole Randy Orton feud.

Hey, who is Christian defending his World Title against this week on Smackdown?
