Just read some article on this, Godfather was #1.
I will always say "oh yeah I love Goodfellas" whenever it's brought up even though I have only seen like the last 25 minutes and the long tracking shot going into the restaurant/club.
I think that's the only big one for me. Pretty sure I've lied about having seen Jackie Brown a few times too.

Ummm... what? I've never felt the need to lie about seeing a movie. If someone asks and I haven't seen it, I'll say so.

I know I've lied about Top Gun. All my female co-workers felt I needed to see it. So one lady brought in a copy (on VHS) for me to watch. I kept it for about a week and gave it back knowing I'd never watch it. Told her it was pretty good and left it at that.

Might watch Goodfellas tonight to get that monkey off my back.
Forrest Gump. The Crying Game.
I do it more often with books probably.

I guess I'm way too curious about something here - what are the situations a person finds themself in where they feel compelled to lie about having seen a movie in the first place?
I'm sure that there are reasons that make quite a lot of sense, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Social inclusiveness (if that is something that exists).
Like if EVERYONE has seen something - especially films like The Godfather as they are seen as "The Best Movie Ever Made" - people often feel compelled to say the have seen them too, so as to be part of the "community".
Expectations are that certain films have to be watched and you could be looked upon as "a lesser being" for not having seen them.
Of course it turns out that a lot of people have been lying anyway, so is The Godfather one of those films that EVERYONE has seen?

All three are really good. Check out both Parts 1 and 2 (which is generally considered the better of the two, though I still like the original better). I'm Italian so I've seen it so many times it's not funny. Goodfellas is always a great movie, a personal favorite of mine. Scarface is very good as well. It has some historical significance with Cuban refugees coming in from Muriel Harbor to earn a better way of life in America. Of course Tony Montana goes a different route and it's a great story. If you haven't seen Casino either I'd recommend that as well. I'm a movie person. I've seen so many. My DVD collection is at about 278 now.

Gangster movies. I have never seen any of the Godfathers, Casino, Apox Now, Scarface, and any of the LOTR movies.

I don't lie about having seen movies as much as I lie about remembering them. Seriously, I've seen so many films that I can't keep them all straight. Then when someone is talking about how awesome some movie is that I saw once 8 years ago, I'll just agree for simplicity's sake.

Why would you lie about seeing something you haven't, especially to someone who has seen it? The natural follow-up to that would be a discussion about it and bullsh*tting your way through something like that would be a lot worse than feeling 'excluded'. I haven't seen 90% of the movies my friends have and it hasn't felt awkward at all.

Social inclusiveness (if that is something that exists).
It exists in the sense that it was just made-up for the sake of the feeling of self-importance much like the crap that's printed in those magazines in the supermarket check-out aisle.

I usually lie about having seen vaguely well-known cult or artsy films so I can pass myself off as being more 'cultured.' Stuff like:
Trainspotting
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Brazil
Eraserhead
