Yabba dabba do, Seth MacFarlane will finally achieve his dream! The mastermind behind Family Guy will reboot the classic animated series The Flintstones for Fox.
Fox execs made the announcement at the network’s presentation today in New York. The show will go in production this year for a 2013 launch. “One of the first things I ever drew was Fred Flintstone,” MacFarlane told advertisers. As for his re-imagination, he said the show has to keep up with the times but some things will remain familiar for old fans. “The characters will look the same but the only thing that will change is the stories,” he said. “What’s the [prehistoric] version of an Ipod?”

Im halfway convinced this is what they're planning to replace the Simpsons with.

if they don't try to make it "edgy" and keep it more family friendly like the original i might be ok with it

but since it's for fox i see it getting canceled like every other remake

If it stays as tasteful adult humor, it could work. If they turn it into a slapstick show ala Family Guy/American Dad, I will be angry.

How would Peter and Lois be any different than Fred and Wilma?

Wardrobe. And Fred's hair is darker than Peter's.

I predict terribleness, but a widespread success at the same time. Much like Family Guy.

must you parade your personal opinion in the thread title, and not in words after quoting the news piece.

I actually think this is great, and I opened the thread expecting something awful due to your thread title.

Hopefully it will be good and he'll do the show "justice." Although the fact that it's going on FOX, and probably will debut in a primetime spot, suggests that they're going to make it more "edgy" and it will be like American Dad, Family Guy and the Cleveland Show.

I hope it's more modern in terms of edgy humor, whatever it is I'm curious.

You could at least give it a chance, Droford, instead of whining just because it's Seth MacFarlane.

would rather watch just about anything than a Seth MacFarlane show atm. I like the guy himself but the longer Family Guy continues to run and run, the more I kind of want to see him get hit by a car

I'm liberal, and can't stand Seth MacFarlane. He already has 3 fucking shows. Why add a 4th?

Beyond that, they pushed out a good Mike Judge show for one of them.

I will watch whether it is good or not.....

There is no way this will be good. Absolutely no way. In fact, it may undo the fabric of existence when MacFarlane opens up a rift in space and time by trying to pass pop culture references off as jokes in the context of what is - in and of itself - a 30-minute weekly pop culture reference. This sort of double-pop-culture-negative may destroy us all.

Or - more likely - it will just be terribly unfunny and last for a decade.

I think a more adult sitcom version of the Flintstones could be good. I just don't think Seth MacFarlane's style is the right fit for it.

I cringe at the thought of the inevitable Family Guy, Cleveland Show and Flintstones Crossover episode.

How does watching something provide them with money?

Well the basic crux/outline being 'TV show + viewing figures = lifespan = $$$' but I feel that's too obvious for you to feel the need to comment on it so like some variety of super sleuth I'm wondering what your point is, possibly whilst stroking an imaginary elegant moustache.

It is a timeless show no matter the animation style. Does not need re-made but I'm not going to shit on Seth until I see the product. I like his work most of the time (sans cleveland show).

Fox is turning into the Seth MacFarlen Animation Domination Station.

When will he go Oprah and start his own television network?

Well I can't see it being any worse than the Cleveland Show or American Dad if this becomes a hit I can't help but think The Jetsons are not far behind.

American Dad is Seth's best show. It has different and better writers than Family Guy.

Terribly unexcited about this. Have a feeling they'll resurrect the IP in backdrop only, and it'll end up being just another animated family comedy show.

Don't understand why MacFarlane insists on having the same basic setup for all of his shows. There's other ways to do comedy.

At this stage they'd almost be grandparents.
