So am I reading this right?

They will crown a New Champion...who doesnt get a belt, but then can challenge any title holder they want, whenever....

So its like a MITB, but a Championship?

Is this right? And What do you think of it?

Can't fault them for trying something else. Of course, they don't have a great track record with execution.

Hanso Amore

I just dont get the logic.

So if you win it, challenge the champ and lose, do you still have the right? Or does there start a new tournament?

Hanso Amore

On Monday, TNA began a tournament for a new championship that they are creating. According to WrestleZone.com, TNA has created a new title called the "Xplosion Championship". The premise behind this title is to allow the holder of this new belt to be able to challenge any other champion they want. The tournament began last night with Pope Dinero defeating Suicide.

Should be that you get to challenge the X-Division champion. Winning a tournament meant for guys that aren't over enough to be on the main show shouldn't get you a shot at the WORLD title. This is poppycock. Poppycock, I say.

VSG
05-17-2011, 05:38 PM
So essentially NXT 1, 2?

BizarroKing
05-17-2011, 05:57 PM
So let me see if I understand this: It's a tournament for a championship, a physical belt or just a theoretical belt is TBD, where you can challenge one of the other champions for their title. For that matter, if the Xplosion Champion loses, does that mean you lose your championship to them and in turn they can challenge someone else for the title?

Wishbone

This... wait what? :wtf:

St. Jimmy
05-17-2011, 06:43 PM
So it's a belt that you win so you can challenge for another belt....

So taking wagers on how many times this Championship will be used to challenge the World Champion versus the TV title, X Title, and Tag titles?

:wtf:

Would be less confusing to just hold a #1 contender tournament and winner decides what title they want instead of creating a championship that doesn't result in an actual "champion."

This is going to be even more confusing if this new championship has an actual belt that isn't worth anything title-wise.

FearedSanctity
05-17-2011, 07:21 PM
Is it an actual belt or just a "title"? Like MITB? If It's a belt then it's retarded. If it's a position to win, then I can understand that, but like everyone else said, what happens if/when they lose? Run another tournament? Doesn't seem totally thought out yet

And what happened to their ranking system? Ditch that already?

Nicky Fives
05-17-2011, 07:25 PM
I'm assuming the holder of the belt could "talk with management" earlier in the evening or show and say that they want to challenge a certain champion. If they are unsucessful, I would imagine they would have 2 "Top Contenders" face off to see who gets the belt after the original championship failed to win on Impact.....

I actually like the idea, but Russo will clusterfuck it up as always.....

I think there's merit in the concept, but I think the execution of it could fail miserbaly by the sounds of things.

Jordan
05-17-2011, 09:30 PM
It would be a great idea but they only have two hours of US tv time per week, couple that with The World Title, X Division, Knockouts, Tag, and TV Titles, and we have way too much for the time were given. Eh.... I am currently on an "Impact Wrestling" kick, needing something different than WWE and TNA has been doing okay the past three weeks but I hope this doesn't fuck it up entirely. I could see it being a great idea but it doesn't make sense yet. Plus, TNA doesn't execute great ideas, well, greatly.

Jordan
05-17-2011, 09:31 PM
Plus, LOL at anyone who wouldn't go for the World Title. They need to explain this better.

yes the very idea that a wrestling company would decide a "number one contender status" by way of a tournament is totally absurd an only happens in TNA

VSG
05-17-2011, 09:37 PM
You guys realize this is not even going to be on US TV, right?

FearedSanctity
05-17-2011, 09:39 PM
Which causes it to make less sense. So US viewers will be treated to seemingly random title shots on Impact and/or PPVs? Yeeeah

TNA's PPV main events get little hype going in as it is, how long until someone decides to "cash in" on the show before a PPV because TNA haven't booked a proper main event yet?

it sounds like its going to be an Interim championship of sorts, it's just a different way of saying number one contender.

try something different.......you just might like it.

No one answered me, are they still doing the rankings? If so, that makes two ways to be a #1 contender. Which means two #1 contenders. If the rankings are gone I'm OK with this, except for the fact it'll be occurring on a show no one in TNA's main market can see

Hanso Amore
05-17-2011, 09:47 PM
ITS A TITLE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO CHALLENGE FOR A TITLE

it's been about a year since they scrapped the rankings system

Hanso Amore
05-17-2011, 09:48 PM
Honestly I would rather them cut some dead weight, bring in some fresh faces, and do a REAL NXT type deal.

Only Rookies with less than one year with the company are on Xplosion. Have its own champ. Build new talent and overseas fanbase with that. Rotate people in and out.

That was dumped just like that with no reasons given storyline wise.

FearedSanctity
05-17-2011, 09:51 PM
So then they went with the typical "I'm the #1 contender because I say so" route? Then yeah, this is clearly an improvement

Theo Dious

I just dont get the logic.

I don't get why you're looking for logic from TNA. Somebody check this man in for electroshock right now.

Xero
05-17-2011, 11:11 PM
Doesn't really need to be a championship. Make it a trophy or some shit, and when someone cashes in, a new tourney is immediately started within two weeks. If it isn't yearly or done in this way, there's no point to it being a championship whatsoever. Just call it a tournament and be done with it.

The concept is fine. Being a title and being on Xplosion which, as pointed out, doesn't air in the US, makes it a bad idea.

Xero
05-17-2011, 11:13 PM
I honestly don't get why TNA doesn't put Xplosion on YouTube or their TNA Vault thing for free. Knowing them, the "Xplosion Champion" will randomly appear on TV with no mention of it before and nobody will know what the fuck is going on.

kareru
05-17-2011, 11:20 PM
trust me you don't want to see Xplosion
i'm the biggest TNA fan here and even i don't watch it.

you know that backstage camera that they use to make backstage segments look more rustic and realistic?

have you ever wondered "hey what would a wrestling match look like filmed in that style"?

well you see where im going with this

Xero
05-17-2011, 11:44 PM
That doesn't take away from the fact that now that the show is going to mean something to the main show, their core audience (Americans) won't be able to see it.

Not sure as I don't get to watch it often, but didn't the ranking thing end after they had to hotshot Angle who was "working his way up from 10 to 1" into the title match?

If this is your legitimate argument, you are showing a glaring lack of anything coherent regarding professional wrestling, professional combat sports, the correlations and differences between the two and common sense in general. This isn't (well, for the most part) people trying to shit on TNA. You and your likenesses constant blind defence of them will do that company more damage than good in the long run.

I like the NXT camera because it's something different. We've had the exact same camera angles in wrestling for decades, I don't really see a problem with the cameras.

Don't really like it for wrestling, really. It's not terrible.

But the TNA one is just bad, with hard cuts and the shaking. It's like they're trying to make it look amateur. And I guess they're succeeding.

I don't have a problem with it for promos, really. But not for matches.

Actually just realized they're probably trying to recreate the old ECW promo style.
