Anyone know why and what year they started using the white jersey as the away jersey? Was it so that it would be just like football as to not confuse the american fans? But then again, baseball and basketball both use white as home jerseys
I liked it the way it was before, I DUNNO

I'm with you. When I go to a game I'd like to see colour on the competition. I want to see away jerseys, not white jerseys.

Think they've been doing this since at least 2007 and I didn't like it at first but I have now gotten used to it there are still a lot of minor hockey leagues that still have it this way.

They changed it when they started the 3rd jersey trend. The 3rd jersey is usually colours, meaning that travelling teams would have to carry an extra set of jersey with them to adapt. With the way it is now, away teams only travel with a white set and it always fits.
As long as it's consistent in the sport, I could care less if away or home wear dark or vice versa.

I think they switched to dark partially because of the third jersey and so that they could shill out more free things (towels, those clepper thing, shirts, etc.) at home games.... If every home team wore white, every area would look the same......
I personally like the dark jerseys better.....

Sells more jerseys too. Fans already bought the home whites, now they have to buy the home darks.
give it a few year until a bunch more team logos change, they'll switch it back.

You know what I miss: the refs and linesmen having their names on the back instead of numbers. It's Bettman trying to NBAize the league when he came in.

It's also probably to avoid everybody knowing the ref's names.

True.....only referee that I can pick out is Chris Lee, mostly because of terrible he is.....

It makes it easier to know when Gravalese is officiating so we can all yell WOO together when he does the pre-game laps. Also, when I see Benedetto I know that the officiating will be utter shit.

I didn't think of this when I first posted, but I think having the home jerseys dark colors ruins "white outs" for teams that do them during the playoffs. Philly's like the only team that can still do them since their home jerseys are eye sore orange and they have that "orange crush" thing going.
Kinda a minor thing I know, but still.

They actually gone back to the way it originally was by having road teams as white.
They 1st switched to dark colours for road teams because of extended road trips and how dirty and scuffed the jerseys would get. The arguement being that dark hides stains better. So the poor equipment manager waasn't losing a nut trying to keep the jerseys clean.
anyway, just a bit 'o hockey jersey history 4-u

In fairness, fans were crazier 30 years ago then they were today.
