View Full Version : Best & Worst #1: WWE Champion [RESULTS POSTED]
Figured I'd start a series of these.
In YOUR opinion, based on whatever criteria you choose - be it "mark", "smark" or "super-smark" (those that look at things from a business standpoint taking into account buyrates, ratings, merch movement, etc) - who was the very best and very worst WWE Champion.
**NOTE: Just WWF/WWE Champion. Do not consider World Champions or any other championship. You may count the Undisputed Championship as WWE Champion if you like.**

Best- Stone Cold Steve Austin particularly his 2001 reign. I thought those were some of his best matches as champion during that time period and I personally enjoyed his heel run just as much as his face run.

I think anyone who hasn't picked Vince, Kane or Bob Backlund as the worst hasn't thought it though properly. Or are obvious trolls
Of course, because there is a definitive answer as opposed to it being a matter of opinion. Your post right there resembles trolling more than anything not posted by a mutie from Sakatchewan in here.

Best: Stone Cold (during the debut of the Smoking Skull belt)
Worst: Backland's 1 day reign.
Backland ended up being worse because he became champion during a good match with Bret Hart and Owen Hart pretending to be concerned over Bret's safety as a way to con his parents into throwing the towel. He then looses it a day later in one of the shortest title matches to Diesel who himself didn't have a great run either.

Honestly, I am not sure you can classify anyone who has been WWE Champion as a "Bad" champion. I looked at the list of champions and to say any one of those men are the "worst" doesn't do them justice. I think every guy on the list deserved to be champion, except maybe Vince McMahon. However, I will not be "that guy" and chose;
Best: Hogan
Worst: Kane (Because of the length of his reign, but like I said, he did deserve to be champ)
OK Smark Alec, let's say "least deserving" if that works better for you. :p
Best-Bret Hart

It would seem to me that a transitional champ should be exempt from this since there was never any intention to make them look good. Backlund had a short run but he put Nash over like he was a god. Nash himself has even said as much. So Backlund wasn't a memorable champion, but he had a job to do and he did it excellently.
The worst champ to me would be someone they tried to book like a superhero but the guy totally dropped the ball. That would probably be the Ultimate Warrior.
As for best, it's hard not to say Austin since they made the belt the focal point of the biggest feud in the company's history.

This is so tough.
I cannot pick best between Hogan and Hart.
Austin and Rock were not about championships. That was just a piece of gold they flung around. Or I'd consider them as well. Poor wording maybe, but whatever.
Worst? Sid? Maybe?
I intend to work out who is officially "The Best/Worst" in each category we do, so I'm only counting solid answers. Just so you know.

Of the 40 gentlemen to be recognised as WWF/E Champion, 11 were nominated as the "Best Ever WWF/E Champion". But only one man can hold that title belt aloft in glory. And with 27% of the popular vote, that man is...

WORST
18 men were put forward for the dishonor of being labelled the "Worst Ever WWF/E Champion" and with 11.36% of the unpopular vote each we have a tie...

I'd say that Backlund's great run should be a tiebreaker in his favor, so Jeff should be the worst on his own.

Yeah I am a bit reluctant to classify Backlund in the same ilk as Jeff Hardy.
I didn't consider transitional champions in this. Despite the fact that "transitional champion" is a loosely-defined term, Bob Backlund was obviously one of them in his second reign. In his first reign he had some fantastic matches. I'm pretty sure he wrestled Harley Race to a 60 minute time limit draw a couple of times.
Hey, I just posting what the people voted. TPWW has lumped Bob Backlund in with Jeff Hardy.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. As far as I'm concerned, if you're in the WWE and you won the main belt, you won the WWE title.

The way I look at it is this. There are guys in the company in which I may not be a fan of, but I understand why the WWE would push them. I just don't get the push for Hardy. They've had problems with him in the past regarding his drug use (Fuck, look at him in TNA now). Sure the fans liked him, but why risk pushing a guy who most likely is going to fuck up again? At least Backlund did his job as a transitional champ and made Diesel like decent.
Like you said the guy was popular with the crowd and that equals money in Vince's pocket.
Don't forget that this very forum loved the idea of Jeff Hardy: World Champion at the time. It's only now that we've turned on him for being the fuck up he has always been.

You know that's not the idea of the thread though, right?
I should have voted Austin as the worst champion here, give me the baghead over the guy that slaps his missus about everytime
Dunno what everyones problem is w/ Hardy being a junkie, it doesn't make him a shit champ. He wasn't a sloppy mess or anything, unless yous are going on his TNA run, which isn't the point.
