I was wondering if anyone was watching DVD's on their 360. I haver watched them before on it but got the red ring both time. Didnt happen right away but after awhile it popped up while watching them.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there anyone here who uses it regularly as a dvd player.

I used to before I got a PS3 and got into Blu Ray. Never had the red rings but my old console started freezing a lot.

Red ring does not have to do with watching DVDs. Red ring is hardware/cooling related.

Well there's 4 different types of red rings.
If all the lights besides the first quadrant are flashing red, this means a general hardware failure has occured. There is little to be done about this but try unhooking and re-attaching the cables. This is a sure sign that you xbox will be visiting a repair store any time soon.
If all the lights besides the second quadrant are flashing red, then your console has merely over heated. Unplug the unit, let it cool for a while and make sure the console isnt sitting on something that will heat up the bottom. A cooling fan can be bought to help prevent this.
If all the lights besides the third quadrant are flashing red, this means a crucial hardware failure has occured. This is a sure sign that your xbox will be visiting the repair store any time in the near future. There is little to be done about this but you could try unhooking and re-attaching the cables.
If all four lights are flashing o your console then this is minor problem. Don't wet yourself over it. This is simply a problem with the AV cable not being plugged in correctly in the back of your console. Simply make sure that you cable clicks into place when inserting into your xbox.

I got the red ring of death once, JUST ONCE, then I restarted the 360 and it worked again. Never had the problem again.
And I do use 360 to watch DVD's. Love it.
My 360 is my DVD player, and I've not yet had any problems.

Only done it a couple of times with once having to be done as part of testing the new disc format but didn't like how loud the system would get when it was spinning the disc and fans at the same time.

I do since I gave my old dvd player to my parents. No problems so far thankfully.

yup, watch everything on it. No problems, no red rings...well, had to send it out in Dec '07. They sent me an '08 model.
It's only a matter of time, I imagine. :(
