View Full Version : Dungeon Siege 3
I was looking forward to this game, because I liked the first two games in the series.
Then I played the demo. :(

No good? I got the demo but haven't tried it. Never played the series, but the videos got me a little hyped for it.
It plays way differently than the previous Dungeon Siege games. That's not an automatic "I won't play this", but it was rather disappointing.
What made me decide the game sucked was the combat controls. When you're in combat, the game decides which enemy you should target. The only way to switch, as far as I could tell, was to move so that the currently targeted enemy is no longer in your attack range.
I was fighting a boss and his minions, and some of his minions had guns, so I figured it would be a good idea to run past the boss and attack the gunners. While I was attacking a gunner, the boss moved next to me, and the game switched my target to the boss. I literally had to run around the battle, fleeing from the boss, so I could get a couple swings in on the gunners, before the boss caught up to me - all the while, the gunners were shooting me, of course. Apparently, the game thinks that a boss is always the highest-priority target.

That sounds frustrating, I have been waiting for this game for a few months now, so I hope it's something that just takes getting used to and isn't a big hindrance in play. Gonna d/l the demo later and find out.

I d/l the demo last night and played it this morning. It is a bit disappointing from what I expected judging by the videos, but that may be because it was a demo and I wasn't all that inspired to play as a swordsman. I died shortly after reaching a safe house and just quit because the combat didn't have any variety whatsoever to it. It was the same 3 slash combo over and over again, but again that could be because it was a demo.
I did see what Poit was talking about though. I'm not sure it was the same boss since like I said I didn't finish the whole demo, but before I entered the safe house I fought a boss with gunners backing him up and I went after them, not thinking about what he had said earlier, and sure enough it set me back on him as I was attempting to kill them. It wasn't much of a problem in that instance since it was only like 4 or 5 guys and the combo you have kills them pretty quickly, but it could be troublesome later on.
Also I wish you could change the controls up some, not a major issue by any means, but I'm just used to X being attack as opposed to A like this game has it and I ended up hitting the wrong button by mistake at the start of battle a few times.
