View Full Version : Del Rio's Title Reign

First off let me state that my thoughts are based solely on the past airings of Raw and not on any intel from the IWC, so forgive me this becomes too speculative and or repetitive as I have not been online in a very long time.

With that being said: It seems with CM Punk placed back into the title match, and Del Rio being the #1 contender, it's inevitable that the main event at MiTB will be a triple threat match. I think this will be the perfect time for Del Rio to finally achieve his 'destiny'. Him becoming the champion would also benefit others: CM can take the time off he needs from the WWE Universe and all those who cheer for Cena wouldn't have to worry about him being fired (as if that would ever happen). Having Del Rio as champion would also create a lot of interesting aspects. While having Cena as champion may be profitable, I believe he generates a greater buzz from the audience when he's the one fighting for the title rather than defending it. Personally, I would rather see Del Rio have championship feuds with other competitors:

Kane

Sin Cara

A returning Ricardo Rodriguez? (I know, massive long shot, but a Del Rio v. Chimera in a championship ladder match could be entertaining)

These are just the first three names that come to mind, and of course are just ideas in place of the more likely outcome of Cena reclaiming the title from Del Rio.

So what do the rest of you lot think? Do you see Del Rio achieving his first championship at MiTB? If so, who should he feud with? And how long would his reign last?

Sorry if this is a TL;DR post, but as I've said I haven't been on in a while and felt I should make a return with more than just a two word comment.

Great idea, but I doubt it will happen.... I'd be shocked if Cena loses the Title before his Wrestlemania match with Rock.....

It's a possibility when considering all the time between now and Wrestlemania. Cena could lose the title and reclaim it at Summerslam or whenever prior to his match with Rock. It would be certainly give him something more relevant to do than simply being the unstoppable 'Super Cena' that all the children love.

I could see The Rock coming back at Summerslam and screwing Cena out of the title and not getting it back until just in time for Wrestlemania probly not on TV though EC sounds about right.

I like the idea of Del Rio as champion, but I don't like the idea of it happening at Money in the Bank. The Cena/Punk feud doesn't really need Del Rio hastily injected into it. There'll probably be some match next week between Del Rio and either Punk or Cena to see who stays in the main event, if I were to guess.

Also, did you seriously just suggest that Ricardo Rodriguez challenge for the WWE title?

Off Topic - There's no reason in the wide world for Cena/Rock to be a title match. Fair enough it was mentioned at the time but if Cena isn't champion then The Rock could shit all over him for not being champion after claiming he would be. That match will draw huge with or without a title on the line. And if the WWE Title is on the line it changes Cena's chances of winning from 99% to 100%.

On topic - I see del Rio bitching about being number one contender and not getting his match with Cena now that Punk is back in. Then Cena wins at MITB and Alberto gets his shot at SummerSlam, which means the heavily rumoured ADR/Cena match goes ahead as planned.

Ha, like I said, those were the first three names that came to mind when I originally posted, my general line of thinking at that time was to suggest possible other feuds for Del Rio other than Rey and Cena. But honestly, taking into regard WWE's vast and unpredictable history, how slim of a possibility would it be to see a ring announcer compete in a title match?

I can agree with the sentiment of wanting to stay on track with the Cena/Punk angle and simple bump Del Rio's shot for another time. I suppose I'm just feeling a little annoyed with his continuous proclamations of him fulfilling his destiny that I want it to happen so he can move on and progress with his career (not to stay that he hasn't been on a roll as of late, he's just starting to become a bit tiresome to me).

Once he has fulfilled his destiny, though...what else will he have to talk about?

Im sure he can come up with something AT, unless he wins the belt and goes 'alright thats that done, next stop Hollywood'

With subtitles i hope. Id watch it if Ricardo was in it to announce his arrival to every single fight he gets in. I only lasted ten mins of the original marine, that was dire

...it's one of those things that's been teased for so long, that when it actually happens, it will have no impact...unfortunately for Alberto.

Pretty brutal film. I made it through most of it, but I fell asleep and never saw the end. I could probably guess how it all went down, though.

Right. I know that his character is about more than just "destiny", but that's a pretty big part of it. If he can constantly reinvent just what his actual destiny is, it could be interesting. If his goals just keep getting bigger and bigger to the point where he's trying to actually control the company or something one day, for example.

Woah dude, thats a little crazy. Im guessing the destiny thing will end when he wins the belt at SummerSlam. He'l probably come out the next night rubbing it in our faces saying i told you so but i think that will be it

...Yeah.

Thing is, his "destiny" was to first be World Heavyweight Champion, and THAT didn't happen...

...so NOW his "destiny" is to be WWE Champion...so SOMETHING happened on the way to fulfilling his "destiny"...

...either way, when he actually becomes Champion, it'll be like "took long enough", after he's been talking about it for so long...and I BET Cena would bring that up in a promo with Alberto, thereby taking some thunder away from Del Rio...

If anything the WWE title is above the World title based on its history and the fact that i will always see the world title as the WCW title. His destiny is the same basic premise altho now he's after a slightly bigger prize
