I really hope they don't blow this by A. having it end Sunday, or B. having it be a swerve and Punk join up with Vince.

...After seeing how Punk has just risen to the occassion, and has become the biggest star in the WWE right now, I just can't see how WWE would let him leave.
What Would Kevin Do?
07-11-2011, 11:54 PM
My shit cut out just as punk was talking about Cabana and Gallows, where did it go from there?
Punk ripped into Vince for firing people like them, and accused Vince of not knowing how to make a star in 2011, and not knowing what the people want. He then demanded Vince apologize to him, for suspending him, for firing people, etc, etc. Punk called himself "the voice of the voiceless."
Vince finally caved in and apologized.
Cena comes out, makes fun of them for bickering (crowd isn't into Cena at all.) He accuses Punk of being the hypocrite because he's going to leave them all behind, and Cena compares him to the Rock.
Punk rips into Cena, bringing back up how earlier Cena said all those guys like HBK, JBL, etc, thought Cena couldn't hang, and that's the problem, that Cena became what he hates. Punk talks about all the local sports teams, and says that Cena is no longer the underdog. Cena is what he hates. Cena is a dynasty, Cena is the New York Yankees. Cena punches Punk, Punk leaves and goes to the top of the ramp.
Punk says he's tired of Vince, and tired of Cena, and that he's just tired. He says that on July 17th, you can say goodbye to the WWE title, goodbye to John Cena, and goodbye to CM Punk. He then rips up the contract, throws it down, does the "You can't see me" hand motion, and leaves.
That's about the jist of it.
That was amazing, as expected. Almost feel like the end was SLIGHTLY anti-climactic, but that's just nitpicking. Both segments were perfect.
As WWKD said, I really hope they don't blow it. I honestly wouldn't mind Punk swerving and joining Vince, but IF Punk is staying on through at least SummerSlam, they could do so much with him.
I honestly find it hard to believe that WWE is going to push Punk this hard and fast right out the door. Yes, it could be WWE doing the "see, we can push you and use you right" BS, but he's being booked so strong and is getting over by such a ridiculous amount that they're only adding to his name value. His name value is bigger right now than it ever has been. And WWE is going to let that walk away from them? Seems unlikely.
Right now, and I don't feel I'm exaggerating, I feel that that if they harness what they have they may very well have something on the level of Austin after the Mania 13 match.
Lock Jaw
07-11-2011, 11:55 PM
Huge pop for Ice Cream Bars. Ice Cream Bars should clearly be brought in and become the next WWE Champion.
My money is on Vince doing something drastic to get Punk to sign at MITB. That may or may not mean Punk is aligning himself with Vince, but something's gotta give here.

It'll either be Del Rio or Kofi.
They took the US Title off of Kofi and Punk and him are real life friends and if Punk is REALLY leaving, he's always said he wanted to put him over on the way out. He's over enough for it to happen.
However, it could be Del Rio. I don't see them giving him the Rumble AND the MITB winner in the same year, but the way they're trying to tap into that Mexican market it's definitely possible. They built him strong leading into it, but you never know.

Right now, and I don't feel I'm exaggerating, I feel that that if they harness what they have they may very well have something on the level of Austin after the Mania 13 match.
Not only that, but if he's actually shooting his way out the door, where is WWE getting their payoff from letting him do this? Having him job to Cena before he leaves isn't going to make it even. If this is Punk leaving, then it's Punk leaving while making the WWE sound like the worst place ever. There has to be some sort of rehabilitation planned after this. They can't just let Punk say all this stuff and leave.

I loved tonight's RAW. Only thing I missed was the Diva's match. I had to take a shit and I figured that was the best time.
I have to admit it seems that the writer's and most of the talent have really stepped it up lately, especially on tonight's RAW. It was fun and exciting again. I actually found myself wondering what was going to happen next, just like old times. Loved the MITB ladder spots with Del Rio, etc.
It was even exciting to see Big Show and Henry's feud continue and the stage bump was sweet. I think that Drew got fucked up after watching the replay, his fall looked sick. It didn't look like Drew landed where he was supposed too at all, let alone Show or Henry. Not sure what happened but it looked sloppy or something.
CM Punk was incredible. Punk/Cena/Vince promos and segments were great. Reminded me of the old school promos between Austin/Vince/Rock or Austin/Vince/HBK from 98-99.
I know they're still PG, but I love that they're bringing back some spontaneity and "anything can happen" feel to the shows. Between the Cena/Punk/Vince promos and language, pro wrestling references, the MITB ladder spots and the Show/Henry stage spot, I felt like they were really trying to push the envelope a little again.
Hopefully they'll keep it up and won't get worried/scared and drop the ball like they've done in the recent past when I thought things were going to start to get better.

Yeah. That's basically my feelings on the whole thing as well. I know reports indicate he is really leaving, but I'm finding it hard to believe.
I see this a little differently. It's time to cue up:
[wishful thinking] Punk does "leave", in the same manner that Daniel Bryan was "fired". He takes the belt (i'm not going to paraphrase Vince Russo from Bash at the Beach again, but you get the idea) and we don't see it again. He gives it that re-design he touched on in tonight's promo gold. Possibly chucks the spinner off the "Roody-Poo Bridge".
Punk actually gets to "leave" with the belt in the way Heyman described the "Sandman's blind" angle, where Sandman stayed home to sell it. He gets to defend it in a way similar to how the whole Tazz/Awesome thing went down over the ECW belt. This sells he's actually "gone from WWE", gets the internets abuzzed with "how much of this is a shoot?" and an "embarassed" Vinnie Mac eventually "re-signs" Punk, Cabana, and possibly by the sounds of things, The Kings of Wrestling.
Cena gets "fired" (read: they finally give their workhorse a well deserved gorram vacation) to have The Rock come back, close to next year's Wrestlemania, of course, to get him "re-hired" for that match.
And we see a return of the WWE Ice Cream Bars. [/wishful thinking]

Oh yeah, almost forgot: LttP for tonight's RAW, brought to you by WWE Ice Cream Bars!
-Cena's speaking in full-on Bostonian tonight. All that elocution class stuff went RIGHT out the window.
-Cole's tie > my mom's dining room tablecloth.
- Spot on Vinnie Mac impersonation by Drew. 15 seconds to be awesome! Welp, back to being buried...
- I loved the "acrophobia" bit (although he did say it correctly) by Truth and Cole.
-ADR got played off by his music like he was at the Oscars.
- Henry just pushed Big Show REAL HARD and hoped he fell. So used to seeing spears in that situation, it just seemed funnier than it should have.
- This segment is just total magic. Vince cheap popping his own entrance, stopping to ponder the huge Zack Ryder sign, "CM PLUNK", "What a maneuverrrr!", "Phil", literal pushing, "This is where I talk them in the building." and the fans not deciding if they wanted to chant "Colt Cabana" or "We Want Ice Cream". Speaking of, Jesus! It even went as far as #wweicecreambars being a trending topic. If only he mentioned ECTO COOLER...
-Punk is undoubtably a unique mic talent. Here's a guy who made clean living sound self-rightous and condescending, yet took a clearly greedy heel promo tonight and was able to work a face reaction out of it. It has less to do with Boston being a "smart city" than you think.

TPWW died for me just after Raw went off the air, which was to be expected after a great promo.
Just like the majority of people, I also loved the Punk/Vince/Cena promo. Mostly just the Punk/Vince segment, though that has nothing to do with me being all "CeNA sUXX! lololol1111!" or whatever, because I'm not. I've said it before, Cena doesn't bother me these days. I actually enjoyed Punk and Vince's segment.
I was actually glued to the screen, listening intently and loving what I was watching. The pop for WWE Ice Cream Bars was hilarious, as was the chant "We Want Ice Cream", followed by Punk saying he's just made Vince millions of Dollars in Ice Cream sales. Punk's impressions of Vince are great too, they gave me a chuckle.
It was great until Cena came out. Again, none of this "CeNA sUXX! lololol1111!" stuff. I honestly thought Cena's part spoiled the "flow" of the segment. Though, when Cena came out and bitched that Punk and Vince were acting like children, he went ahead and did a childish impression of them acting like children.
Pot calling the kettle black?
And it's most likely because I don't have an interest in Baseball or Basketball, but the whole Baseball/Basketball referencing just had me lost.
But overall, it was a great segment and now I'm really looking forward to Sunday. :y:

Gotta agree with this one. I was originally going to reply and say "You didn't need Cena to end the segment", but fuck, you really did. It's not like it's CM Punk v.s. VKM, you want the opponent (and top guy) in the last segment in the last week before the ppv.
It would have been good to focus on Cena a little bit more imo, considering a stipulation of the match is that he gets fired. With Punk mentioning the previous time it happened (or didn't), and not a hell a lot of focus on it, what was the point of having the stipulation anyway? If Punk wins, the shock will be focused on the title leaving the company, not Cena.

My roommate had an interesting observation that could play into how this whole angle goes down. During the promo there were two contracts out in the ring, one of which CM Punk had already signed. It could be spun that during all of the confusion, CM Punk grabbed the wrong contract and tore up the one that didn't have his signature.
CM Punk goes onto win the match this Sunday only to have Vince come out and reveil that he signed "the" contract, in effect forcing Punk to stay on. This could setup for a Punk/McMahon fued that could slowly build Punk up as an anti-hero similar to Austin.
That's actually a great observation that I've not heard yet. It could absolutely come into play.

As much as that's a fantastic idea, I just watched the whole segment again and Vince does keep a hold of Punk's contract during the time Cena is in the ring, but when Punk leaves the ring, he steals it back from Vince. So if that is indeed how the angle goes down, they're going to have a tough time showing how the mix-up happened. :-\
I thought maybe because Vince was offscreen for a long time that the mix-up could have happened then, but Vince's contract was lying in the same position when Punk left the ring as it was when Punk tipped over the table.
So Vince's contract hadn't been touched.

Cena indeed was very good. I think it shows what he can do against another talented wrestler in a well written feud. Cena, Punk and to a lesser extent VKM were all on form on Raw, and they didn't play into independent heel or face roles, they played a great shade of grey. You'd be hard pressed to say Cena is a heel in this situation though, but VKM and Punk can go either way based on their next moves...
