View Full Version : Perhaps my weirdest post ever...

Well, probably not, but weirdest for me -- because the other night I had my first wrestling dream. In it, I had vowed to give up the WWE, because CM Punk had actually left, and because it's an experiment I've always been fascinated with (What happens if I give up watching for six months? Would I miss anything good?) Anyway, I actually heard people talking about how good WrestleMania was going to be in my dream. They were talking about a few things in particular, one being Cena vs. Rock (of course), but one other had me intrigued: "I can't believe Chris Jericho is going to fight the best wrestler in the world."

I had no clue exactly what this meant, but in my dream I immediately logged onto one of my favourite wrestling websites, and looked at a preview of the card. I didn't even look at the whole article, as I had vowed not to ruin my watching with the internet, but decided that I must definitely order this PPV after seeing that "Daniel Bryan vs. Chris Jericho" was a match featured on the card. With that and John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE Title confirmed, I figure that I had both bases (wrestling and sports entertainment) covered. I ordered the event and this is what I got:

* The commentators for the show were Michael Cole, Jerry "The King" Lawler and Matt Striker (more on what Booker T was up to later).

* Jennifer Hudson sang America the Beautiful.

* The opening match had Zack Ryder facing David Otunga. The story was that Ryder had taken over Nexus, and that Otunga eventually got sick of Ryder and thought he could do a better job. Apparently a legend (may have been Shawn Michaels, I cannot remember) told Otunga that he should take over the Nexus. They kicked Otunga out, but he was actually pretty over as a babyface by this point. Otunga beat Ryder with The Verdict and then embraced his fiance/wife/whatever she is and the live crowd popped pretty big for him.

* Cody Rhodes then defeated Goldust to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Basically, Goldust returned to the WWE and called Rhodes a freak, or something, out of love for his brother, and wanted to see him return to normality, and perhaps even leave wrestling if he can't handle being hurt. Goldust was super over, and Rhodes was getting booed. Booker T was in Goldust's corner for this match, and Ted DiBiase was in Rhodes' but I'm pretty sure DiBiase won't be working with Rhodes come WrestleMania. He didn't factor into the match in any big way, anyway. Rhodes won cleanly with Cross Rhodes, but then beat up his brother calling him names like "freak" afterwards. Booker T pulled Rhodes off Goldust and then told him to "take off the freakin' mask, man!" Rhodes slowly reached up and did so, which got a huge pop, and then nailed Booker T in the back of the head after Book checked on Goldust. Rhodes then hit Booker T with Cross Rhodes and got massive heat as he seemingly shed the "disfigured" character but with upwards momentum (he walks out of Mania the IC Champion still).

* Match three was The Miz facing Big Show. The Miz came out with Andy Leavine and apparently The Miz had taken Leavine under his wing to get at Stone Cold Steve Austin, who was involved in the build to this match. Big Show apparently hates The Miz because The Miz said some hurtful stuff stemming from their run as Sho-Miz, but a lot of the focus here was on if The Miz beats Big Show, then apparently Stone Cold has to admit that The Miz is, indeed, awesome. The Miz managed to win after Big Andy got on the apron and took the Knockout Punch, but The Miz low-blowed Show, and then hit a DDT for the win. Miz put on a Miz 3:16 shirt after the match. Austin came out and told The Miz that he was awesome, but then gave him a Stunner.

* The fourth match was a US Title Match between Alberto Del Rio and...MVP? Apparently MVP did something in late 2011 that was quite heroic, and it made the news and such, the girls from The View were talking about it, etc. Eventually it became such good publicity that the WWE re-hired MVP as a guy who proves that the sins of the past can be forgiven. Del Rio's story here was that he won the WWE Title at some point in 2011, but after losing it got a case of sour grapes, and claimed that he didn't want to be the WWE Champion anyway, and that he was going to make the US Title the most prestigious in the world, to "fix your country." It was a bunch of weird stuff, but seemed perversely entertaining and over in my head. MVP challenged Del Rio, because he is the longest reigning US Champion in WWE history. MVP was still wearing the space suits, and in my dream was wearing a really cool purple and black one, and got a great entrance with the cheerleaders and stuff. He felt like retro-MVP, but he lost cleanly to the Cross Armbreaker.

* Match five was actually a Money in the Bank Ladder Match -- with it being a battle between RAW and SmackDown! Superstars, with the winner receiving a title shot on any brand of their choosing. It was also billed as the "largest Money in the Bank of all-time," with twelve guys competing. Seems like way too much, but it actually got some time. John Morrison vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Evan Bourne vs. Kane vs. Ezekiel Jackson vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Johnny Curtis vs. Heath Slater vs. Justin Gabriel was the match here. I think Seth Rollins was supposed to be in the match, but he was taken out by Johnny Curtis who wanted the spot. Rollins was in the crowd scouting Curtis. I believe this was won by John Morrison.

* R-Truth and Santino Marella were feuding, and apparently Truth claimed that there was some sort of conspiracy to keep him out of the WrestleMania main event. He actually used phrases like "keep the black man off WrestleMania." Santino Marella challenged Truth to a match. R-Truth thought that he was being made fun of, and he attacked and took out Vladimir Kozlov. Marella then got serious, and was shown training with guys like Batista and Samuel L. Jackson (the latter were comedy segments). The part I saw in my dream saw Marella and Jackson sitting in a car together stalking R-Truth (seriously), and Marella saying I don't like "N-words." Jackson looked at Marella in a "I can't believe he just said that kind of way," and then Marella shrugged and said "What? I hate nutters..." R-Truth came out, and Marella entered the arena to an Italian cover of "Eye of the Tiger," and got lost on the way (like the classic Chris Jericho skit). Marella eventually made it out, and before the bell rang, put up his finger as if to say "hold it," and then acted like he was going to be sick. He started to mock throwing up, and the referee checked on Marella, and then Truth went to attack him, but got low-blowed, although the ref didn't see. Marella then dominated the early goings of the match, but Truth, being the heel got control. It didn't last long, though, as Samuel L. Jackson got on the ring apron. Truth called Jackson a "snake in his ring," and Marella loaded up The Cobra and got the pin. Vladimir Kozlov then came out dressed in a suit, but with his neck in a brace, and added R-Truth's picture to a list of the people Marella (including Santina) has beaten at WrestleMania (as Matt Striker points out, a record!)

* The Miz was looking for Stone Cold backstage to get some revenge, but someone had already laid out Austin. The Miz actually asked for help after he was shocked by finding Austin in the shape he was in.

* Daniel Bryan defeated Chris Jericho in a match I can only assume the IWC jacked off to. The story here was that DB actually turns heel on Sin Cara eventually, and then beat him at a PPV in 2011, but actually earned a World Heavyweight Title shot from it -- against then champion, Randy Orton. Bryan managed to defeat Orton with help from a returning Christian (who missed a month due to being kayfabed injured by Orton). Bryan would not hold the title for long, but claimed as soon as he won it that it meant he was "The Best in the World." This brought back Jericho, who claimed that he was the best. So basically, the two wrestle here with Bryan as the super-aggressive heel, and the babyface Jericho who "wants to see what Bryan really has." Bryan wins here, and Jericho embraces Bryan after the match, essentially turning him face again.

* They did the Hall of Fame segment, with "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Miss Elizabeth, Edge, Arn Anderson, Ron Simmons, Theodore Long and probably some others going in.

* Sheamus defeated Triple H in what was billed as Triple H's final match. The story here was that The Game wanted to prove he could beat Sheamus after losing to him at Extreme Rules. They fought under No Holds Barred here, and Sheamus won the match cleanly. It appeared to be pretty emotional to both men, but Sheamus appeared to show no remorse in the ring. Outside it, though, Sheamus seemed to give The Game a nod of respect before he head to the back by raising the sledgehammer of Triple H at the top of the ramp. People were popping Sheamus even before this (although they certainly weren't booing Triple H).

* Sin Cara defeated Rey Mysterio in a Mask vs. Mask Match. This created a huge buzz, and many of us called shenanigans so neither guy would have to lose their mask. Sin Cara managed to get the clean victory with one of his moves, though, and Mysterio stood alone in the ring as people gave him a huge round of applause. Mysterio went to take off his mask, but CM Punk then slid into the ring (everyone was shocked, so I think he was truly gone, and this was the first we had seen or heard of him being back), and he attacked Mysterio, laying him out with the GTS, and then ripping off Mysterio's mask himself. This got huge heat, and we knew CM Punk was back in a big way.

* Next up was The Undertaker's streak being contested against Wade Barrett. The story here was that Barrett challenged The Undertaker, because he wanted to do something big. Barrett was still SmackDown! Money in the Bank Winner at this point in time after winning it at the upcoming PPV. Taker accepted the challenge, and Barrett's promos talking up how much it would mean to beat The Undertaker, but just how possible it was because he's more of monster today mentally than The Undertaker is physically, made this feud. We all assumed that The Undertaker would go over here, but in a shocker, Barrett pinned The Undertaker after a delayed Wasteland. Like he had The Undertaker up, and he just relished the moment of knowing he had The Phenom beat at WrestleMania. It was actually a really tense moment. Barrett got the three, and the place literally errupted. Some cheered, some booed, and the cameras went to people clutching their heads in shock. Lara Emily would have flooded her house. Barrett walked around all cocky as people didn't know how to react. Barrett was lapping it up (like it was a legitimate career accomplishment -- which it was). Barrett then walked up the ramp and raised his arm like The Undertaker does/used to (I don't know if he still does). Cole, King and Striker were all talking in somber tones about what this means for The Undertaker. Barrett winning was almost an afternote, sadly. The Undertaker is sitting in the ring, watching Barrett leave, and then the place starts applauding as The Undertaker gets to his feet and walks around the ring for a bit, before going past fans at ringside. He wasn't really selling injuries or anything. Cole even felt sorry for the guy. In an interesting bit: Brock Lesnar was shown at ringside with Paul Heyman, and in a bit of a mirror of their previous encounter, The Undertaker looked at Lesnar as Brock mouthed something like "I respect you," and started clapping and the place erupted into more cheering. The Dead Man got to the top of the ramp, as Cole, Striker & King speculated about what he was going to do. The Undertaker then turned around with his eyes rolled back and his tongue out in classic Undertaker fashion. Monstrous pop, and The Undertaker returned to the back.

* We then got Beth Phoenix vs. Trish Stratus for the Divas Championship, in a bit of a cooler. Phoenix had been a dominating heel Divas Champion for a few months, and Stratus agreed to do WrestleMania again. Phoenix got the clean win to continue on her rampage, but after the match, Kharma's laugh was heard over the titantron.

* There was a comedy segment that featured Vickie Guerrero (who had somehow become the RAW General Manager) and William Regal (who had replaced a retired Teddy Long as the SmackDown! GM). They were arguing over which brand was better, and then started making out. The camera panned to reveal Ron Simmons standing behind Regal. After a long pause, he simply speaks "...Why?" Regal has no answer.

* Next up was Christian vs. Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Title. Apparently Christian had won the World Heavyweight Title at some point, and Orton was "meant to never be able to get another title shot." Orton won the Royal Rumble and got another match, however, and this was scheduled to be the blow-off to Orton vs. Christian. But because these two hated each other so much, Teddy Long needed a referee who could keep control, and knew both men, and that they both respected -- new WWE Hall of Famer, Edge. Heading into this event, Edge talked about how much the World Heavyweight Title meant, and he'd call this straight down the middle, but apparently he had a change of heart, as he struck Randy Orton over the back with a steel chair here, and helped Christian continue his reign as World Heavyweight Champion. Christian was also wearing different ring attire which had some sort of crown design on it. I got the vibe he had won a 2011 King of the Ring or something, but I dunno.

* The final match of the night was The Rock challenging John Cena for the WWE Title. This match had, as expected, a hot crowd. The Rock actually won the WWE Title here with a Rock Bottom. I think there was some sort of angle done where someone The Rock has also developed a problem with (I think it may have even been Zack Ryder) didn't want to see The Rock win the WWE Title, because he wasn't part of the roster. Ryder led his Nexus group to run down and beat down The Rock, but Cena demanded the match not be stopped and got involved -- but got beaten down for a bit. He made a comeback and took out the heels, but then turned around into a Rock Bottom for the loss. WrestleMania closed with people in shock as The Rock was the WWE Champion, and Cena looking dejected in the ring.

So my question is: Although this was just a dream, is a card like this at all possible for WrestleMania? The reason I ask is because it doesn't seem like a completely unreasonable card (despite featuring 13 matches). I actually felt like I did as a fan watching it. Otunga as a babyface underwhelmed me (but was working), Del Rio's stint in the mid-card made the smark in me mad, and the Truth/Marella stuff either needed more time or to not be there at all, but all-in-all it felt like a WrestleMania. What do you think? Did I just have a semi-realistic glimpse at what WrestleMania XXVIII could look like (not that I believe in the pre-emptive power of dreams)? Would you guys be offended by this card?

Okay, that wasn't so much a dream, as it was me thinking ahead to SummerSlam and Night of Champions matches, and how I would use Chris Jericho if he returned to the WWE at the same time, and then somehow worked out a bit of a framework for a semi-realistic WrestleMania card and went from there -- but didn't want to confess that was how I spent my morning coffee time the other day. :shifty:

I did. Feel it is an underused plot device that would be perfect for a world filled with fake car explosions, week-long forklift accident injuries and Vince Russo.

Plus if we follow the Inception rules, you should have only remembered it from about the mid-card, not the beginning... but I digress...

That main event sounds like just as much of a cluster-fuck as this year...

I liked it, except for Barrett beating Taker.

Yes, I am a massive Undertaker mark and feel he should not be beaten at Mania.

The way I would book the ending to that match, just like you have it, Barrett has Taker up for the Wasteland, and delays it, then executes it, goes for the pin, but Taker kicks out. Barrett delivers Wasteland again, Taker kicks out. Undertaker gets a little bit of offense in, maybe a big boot, knocking them both over, but Taker manages to roll out of the ring. Barrett recovers, goes out to get Taker, rolls him in, and delivers Wasteland again. Undertaker kicks out again, which sends Barrett into a rage, he mounts Taker and is just raining down punches until the referee DQs him. Barrett doesn't let up, he continues the beating. Three or four refs come down to get Barrett off of Taker and force him to the outside. The refs are kneeling around Taker, but Barrett grabs his ankles and pulls Taker outside the ring. Barrett delivers Wasteland on the outside, hauls Taker back into the ring, covers him and counts the 3 himself.

Interesting, but I do believe that The Undertaker should drop the streak off to someone. A guy that could really benefit is Wade Barrett, who has all the tools to be a major player in the WWE for years to come. Plus, The Undertaker is essentially considered retired now. It's time to end it.

Dude, I think your a smart guy but come on, you tend to like Val Venis and Primo... Barrett is a good talent, but he's hardly shown enough to qualify himself as deserving of the biggest honor one could obtain in the sport of pro wrestling. Beating the Undertaker at Wrestlemania if ever done to the right person could create one of the biggest pushes ever. But done in the wrong hands, you waste 20 years in less than an hour.

If there was anyone to end the streak it should be someone along the lines of Chris Jericho, Punk, Triple H, Cena etc... guys that still got a little go in them to milk the result.

Giving one of those guys that kind of respect would give them the nudge into the Hogan echelon status.
