View Full Version : MMA Tipsters: Sign Up/ Rule Making Thread

I figure now would be the time to start sorting it all out. That'll give us two weeks for sign ups then I can post the UFC 133 card on fight week.
I figure 25 points for correctly guessing the winner of the fight, but 50 points for correctly guessing the round, and 50 points for guessing how (i.e. KO, TKO, Submission, Decision (aka a GSP), Doctor Stoppage, Corner Stoppage, etc...)
I'm also thinking it should be limited to major UFC PPVs for right now and only those fights on the main card. Like I said, the card would be posted fight week and the deadline would be 30 minutes before fight time (so 8:30 PM East Coast Time). If you sign up and miss two PPVs you're automatically out.
We could also start a Tipsters group where we could post streams.
These are just rough suggestions right now. I'll keep a running tab of all participants in this post. Anyone with anything they want to add or change feel free to make suggestions and we can hash it out here. I do demand that a decision victory is formally referred to as a GSP though.

Peoeple need to quit hating on GSP, just cause he would wreslefuck everyone in 205 and under doesn't mean you gotta hate. GSP just needs to finish a couple people and everyone will think he's the best again.
Also, atleast in GSPs "boring" fights he engages his opponents, go watch Maia/Silva I tell me why that fight sucked.

Why would I watch that fight when I could go watch Silva/ Belfort, Silva/Sonnen, Silva/Griffin, Silva/Henderson etc... No need to go back and watch the GSP archives. They all end the same. Don't get me wrong, GSP is a great fighter. The best Welterweight ever no doubt. That's why I propose honoring him by naming all decision victories GSPs.

This debate is really going to take this thread off track though. I'm assuming I can put you down as a +1 for Tipsters and being against GSP standing for decision victories?

Silva/Sonnen? Really, that fight was boring as fuck from an action stand point. Silva did nothing but get taken down and beat up for 23 minutes and get a lucky hail mary submission on a guy who couldn't escape from a paperbag. Silva has been in his share of brutally boring fights, one way worse than anything GSP has ever been in. I don't ever recall Dana threatening to fire any other world champion.

I'm not hating on Silva either, before anyone jumps to conclusions. I enjoy watching him fight, but I've sat through 3 or 4 of Silva's fights that were ridiculously boring, with no actual action. Makes me wonder if all people watch are his insane highlights.

I'm in too. And sonnet/silva was nowhere close to boring. Regardless of his poor sub defense, a bad rib and whatever other excuse... SONNEN LANDED OVER 300 PUNCHES IN THE FIGHT. can you laugh at the fact that they were pithy love taps? Yes. Can you call him telling anyone with a camera and a mic he'd win grand standing? Yup. Was any part of the fight boring? NOT by a longshot

Without the context, and hype for that fight, it's boring. It was only awesome because it was Sonnen beating up Silva for 4 and half rounds and almost beating the seemingly unbeatable. The finish was the only exciting part of the fight really.

Sonnen is Jon Fitch with charisma, and some wit.

I think we are getting into an issue of semantics. Without sonnens hype, or silva's heir of invincibility, then the fight wouldn't have been ME. No matter how you slice it, that was an enjoyable main event.
GSP isn't boring to any fan of combat sports. His fight against KO's was a beautiful display of boxing. His fight against Hardy was a nice display of wrestling, but both fights had reasons for fans to complain. GSP SHOULD'VE SNAPPED HARDY'S SHOULDER. and he should've KTFO Kos. Both statements would come from fickle fans of the sport. It's a shame that those fans have purchasing power

Do you guys want to do a test run with the Fedor/Hendo card to see how bad we'll all be at this? The results won't count for the actual "season," but with Paul Daley, Scott Smith, Robbie Lawler and Tim Kennedy on the card there's a lot of potential for KO's or submissions.
Also, we should pick a end date for each "season."

If you're doing it for UFC only, I'm in. I don't follow Strikeforce, so I'd be guessing randomly most of the time there.
Also, do you have other people to help you run this? People burn out on these things real quick... Hell, what happened to the last one Jabba?

I'm sure me, I.C., csl, and Krimzon could keep it going between the four of us. We're probably 90% of the posts on this board anyway... sadly for us and unfortunately for everyone else who has to read our posts.
Strikeforce won't be in it. Fedor/Hendo would be just for fun. Most of their good fighters will probably be in the UFC by the end of the year anyways.
In. still think this should be renamed.

I was still fine running it, but only five people were participating.

Calendar year, or fiscal year would be best. I'm down for trial e

Okay guys I'm going to finalize the rules. The point system is as follows:
Winner: 25 Points
How: 50 Points [The choices for how are: Knockout, Technical Knockout (Doctor Stoppages and Corner Stoppages are considered TKO's), Decision] You don't have to specify the exact move such as guillotine, elbows, headkick, etc...
Round: 50 Points [If you choose decision for how, the round will automatically be set. Obviously]
I'll post the card and choices the Monday of each fight week. They'll be due 30 minutes before the PPV starts. Since the UFC averages two major PPVs each month I'll update the scores and rankings with an official list at the end of each month.
IC, Krimzon and CSL: If this is going to run the full year, let me know if you want to help out with running it. I know I'll likely be very busy in October and November so maybe we can switch out every couple of months or so.
I am in if i aint too late...

Yeah. You missed an event though so you're down points wise. Not that it truly matters though. Next event is UFC 134: Silva v. Okami.
