View Full Version : Triple H Wants To Rebuild WWE's Tag Team Division

Juan
08-10-2011, 04:58 PM
As the head of WWE's revamped talent development program, Triple H has a lot of influence over which talents are signed and featured on WWE television. It's been reported that Triple H is serious about introducing new talents through 'coming soon' vignettes, as we saw with the first two people signed under Triple H - Sin Cara and Karma.

Now -Triple H is said to have his sights set on a new objective - rebuilding WWE's tag team division.

WWE is looking to recruit tag teams from other promotions, including Ring of Honor's Kings of Wrestling & Brisco Brothers as well as TNA tag team Beer Money, when they become free agents.

Regarding the recent WWE tryouts for the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli), the latest word is that the KoW will be introduced as a tag team, not singles wrestlers.

Sounds too good to be true. It would be a tremendous boost for the 'wrestling' side of the WWE. The Briscoes, Beer Money and Kings are special talents, but lets not forget that this would give some underused talent the opportunity to shine, Hawkins and Barretta spring to mind as the Dude Busters.

Briscoe's could do a job (literally) as heels, make some other teams look good. KOW could do really well if this is for real, Beer Money are great, MCMG would probably jump at the chance and could get over big time with the "WWE audience", there's bound to be a couple of winning combinations that could wound up pairing off that are already under contract, once they get bored of Truth's current schtick, bring up Austin/Consequences Creed for Truth or Consequences (hur hur) blah blah blah

Sadly I think a key to getting a new team over is a Killer finisher to WOW fans out of the gate. It has worked for Bourne.

They need to steal a show to get the ball rolling, because in this climate you KNOW Creative isnt going to get a team over.

How they dropped the ball with the Harts is beyond me.

Bring it on. Diverse product is the best thing. The women are shit to watch and it's either a good time to get up and go for a piss (thus meaning in theory you wont miss the rest of the product) or good wank material. Either way, they serve a purpose.

Tag Teams would be good to break up the run of the mill shit and give some cred to what can be a decent division. I used to love the old TT division with E&C, The Hardy's, Dudley's etc.

Everybody. Have Triple H decree that everybody has to have a tag team partner. You can either pick your own, or else you'll be entered into a LETHAL LOTTERY to find out who your partner is.

Hopefully if they are serious about rebuilding the tag division it doesn't get dropped again once creative looses interest or the WWE shifts back to just main eventers as the focus.

Although at least the worst case scenario would guarantee a short period of good tag team wrestling similar to when the WWE tried to be as good as the Knockouts in TNA which led to a short period of quality women's matches until they lost interest again (also dropping Finley as in charge of the division).

I remember London and Kendrick owning the record for most time in the brand split era with the tag belts but never were used to help rebuild the division even on the weaker Smackdown show.

This doesn't surprise me. As a wrestler, Triple H probably really appreciates how great tag team matches can be for as crowd-warmers and such. The Briscoes would be an interesting team in the WWE -- I can see them working as redneck babyface that you sort of want to get behind, because they take a beating and keep smiling. Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if Mick Foley brought them in as an on-air pet project, or something.

The Kings of Wrestling would be great, and I'd love it if they essentially stayed exactly the same as they are. Both guys have personalities which work fine. Even have them use that dirty word "Wrestling." I could see them being like Chris Jericho when he first showed up -- presented as a heel, but too over to stay that way for long.

Los Aviadores are long overdue for a call-up. I think the only reason they haven't been is because the WWE doesn't want too many guys with masks on the WWE roster. But you have them show up in a six-man tag with Rey Mysterio against The Miz, Michael McGillicutty & David Otunga, and I guarantee they will be over in no time.

You've got Bo Rotundo and Husky Harris in FCW -- so why not bring them up as a tag team? They could even work a nice babyface style, with Bo taking the beat-down, and tagging in big Husky for the finish -- although they seem like they could work equally well as heels.

That's just scraping the bottom of the barrel. You could create some great tag teams using the FCW and main WWE roster. Personally, an idea I've wanted to see lately is Pryme Tyme -- a heel combition of Primo and JTG -- with Primo teaching JTG that "gangster" is in the soul, and not in the way you dress -- leading to them adopting matching attire and cheating their asses off while flying around the ring.

You could also give Curt Hawkins a random heel partner to take on Zack Ryder and a babyface partner, with Hawkins costing Ryder and his partner a match against McGillicutty & Otunga -- feeling betrayed that Ryder has been looking for other allies. If you don't go with Primo & JTG, I'd suggest the team of Primo & Hawkins -- two former "bros" of Ryder, feeling that they have been left behind while Ryder has gone onto bigger things.

Yeah, you just need the right pairing. Honestly, I think a great pairing would have been Zack Ryder and Chris Masters. Ryder could give Masters a guido make-over, and Masters could bounce his pecs. In the ring, Ryder takes the beating and tags in the beast that is his back-up. They would have been super over. Especially if you give them someone like Eve Torres as a valet.

The fact they can both "go" and are dynamite with a microphone is the icing on the cake. Have Miz wear trunks the same colour as Truth's trousers or vice versa (I likes me a team with some attire symmetry) and they could be a riot.

I think you may be right. I likely just morphed all that together via a combination of time passing by and me not giving a fuck about any of them.

... and all this just in time for Survivor Series. ^_^

Also, Stafford can be the mouthpiece. Some fresh blood in the manigerial capacity, since Jinder Mahal doesn't quite count. It also would be awesome to see someone enact "The Freebird Rule" as tag champs since nobody has done it in awhile. Whilst that was a tag match to open SummerSlam, it had nothing to do with a tag division.

That was a quick way of getting 6 singles guys onto the card.

I'd guess that's what KK was laughing at.

Fair enough, though when i was watching i could see a few of them as being part of the division itsself.

This might be an "odd one" but I'd like to see them bring Vance Archer back to reform The Gatecrashers with Curt Hawkins.

Laughing at what? Me enjoying a great tag match?

Yes, that has to be it. Not anything to do with it not being a division-related match, or the instant credit to Trips. It has to be that you liked the match.

Seriously, I thought you were taking the piss anyway.

Ah, well i was on abit of a high after just watching the ppv still but i've tried to make what i meant abit more clearer. Doesn't matter anyway.

The Young Bucks, known in TNA as Generation Me, received a tryout match yesterday before RAW. The two worked several matches for WWE producers (agents).

WWE is currently seeking tag teams to push their tag division; thus Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross discussing how tag team champions Otunga and McGuillicutty needed some new competition last night on Raw during their match.

Several other California talents got tryouts as well, including Scorpio Sky of WSX and PWG.

Bourne and Kofi will be able to help both themselves and the tag division if they stick together.

I guess Bourne & Kofi are going to be the random team that dethrones McGillicutty & Otunga. If they actually work to become a proper tag team unit, I will actually really get into them. They could do some great work on SmackDown!, where they would have more time to work and tell some fun stories.

So far we now have,

Air Boom
Nexus
Miz/R-Truth

We also had 2 tag team matches in one Raw. This idea seems to be going on pretty well. Miz/Truth challenging and accepting a title match against Air Boom was hilarious. Really loving the way Truth/Miz work together, but really hoping they lose at NoC against Air Boom since they just won the titles a couple weeks ago.

Can Hawkins do sounds like Michael Winslow? If so, give him that gimmick and call them Reks -N- Effects.

As long as they Hawkins gets the gimmick of an eccentric scientist who has brought a T-Rex back to life and formed a tag team with it. Tyler Reks will be the T-Rex.

Personally, I think its great that they've got reasonably high calibre stars around bitching and fighting over the tag titles. The whole point of the Lawler/Nexus thing is to boost their profiles. Normally he's just used to get a singles guy over.

For Miz/Truth/Bourne/Kingston, this is their project. If they can recover the tag division from the wreck that it is, then it can only help them and the WWE. They went some way with Jeri-Show and DX to try and make it important and it worked to some degree, but DX was bigger than the tag division. The guys involved this time are not and it can only be good.

Once they've completed their task, they move on and the other designed tag teams come into a fresh environment with some already built legitimacy.

Brodus Clay and Mark Henry could be a tag team. Get them matching outfits.

Please put Brodus Clay in Mark Henry's attire, and not vice versa. Also, please push Curt Hawkins. Thank you.
