Andre by far meant more to rasslin. I know Eddie is gonna win but it's bc y'all have no respect for the old school. I feel an old school Rajahwwf Throat wobble mangrove rant coming!

Well it is a poll for better wrestler and while Andre was important to the industry, he wasn't a good wrestler.

Shisen Kopf

Andre was a good rassler. Yeah and the end of his career he was limited bc he was in pain and pretty much dying. But in the 70s and early 80s he was good.

Andre was a legend. Andre with the nod.

agreed

Andre may have been awful by the late 80's but in his prime during the 70's and early 80's he was a decent wrestler for someone his size

yes he wasn't exactly Ric Flair in the ring but he could go

Seems like people are forming opinions solely on Andre's last few years.

I get that not everyone got to see him in his prime, but statements like this

but after being in awe of his immense size for a few minutes, he didn't bring all that much to the table afterwards.....

are completely false

We never really saw Andre in his prime in the WWF. He was already pretty messed up by the time he got main stream.

08-23-2011, 12:34 AM
That's actually a fair point... Andre was huge -- and I mean that in a few respects -- but the Andre we knew from WWF programming was not Andre in his prime, at his best. Can't really be critical of younger/newer fans who didn't know The Giant from before he went all Icon.

Tough choice but Eddie Guerrero in the end.

Eddie Guerrero's body size and lucha abilities allowed him to stay agile much longer than Andre. He had better promo ability while Andre was hurt a bit by his thick accent. Eddie also had a better variety of characters but once again Andre worked in the era where wrestlers would have just 1-2 character types if they were successful (ex. Ted Dibiase, Hogan till nWo era).

Andre did have one of the most important moments of wrestling history with Hogan and was a good enough actor that made it possible for wrestlers to be involved in movies like Hogan would in the 1990s.

Andre's biggest downside was most of his career occurred during the territory days or pre-Hogan era so a lot of people missed out on his prime while his decreasing wrestling abilities became a big issue by the time his feud with Hogan began.

Eddie wins easily. André was just more of a sideshow.

The poll isn't titled "Wrestler who meant more to Wrestling", or "Wrestler who did more for Wrestling"...

...it's titled, simply, "BETTER WRESTLER"...

...therefore, Eddie Guerrero.

which has, as "frustrating" as it at times, always been open to people's personal interpretation. It's like Rule #1 of Better Wrestler.

Supreme Olajuwon
08-23-2011, 03:21 PM
Exactly. If it was just who was the better ring technician, Lance Storm and Dean Malenko would've been the first two guys inducted. Just looking at the HOF members, Angle, Benoit, and Hart are the only guys who were truly exceptional technical wrestlers who could be successful on just that talent. The other guys are in because they offered the total package both in and out of the ring. And that ambiguity is what makes this work.

Eddie was infinitely more entertaining than Andre for me. For those talking about how good Andre was in his prime, can you post any videos of him being good? I'd love to see some. Even still, I'm willing to bet that Eddie in his prime would still outwork the shit out of Andre.

All that being said, if somebody asked me the question of which guy I would rather have on my roster if I ran a company...I really can't say.

Eddie Guerrero was by far the better wrestler. Andre was a huge attraction no doubt, but he was no way in the same league ability wise as Eddie
