Triple H is on a roll

There has been discussion within WWE lately about the company looking to see what cruiserweight or light heavyweight talents are out there and signing them to developmental deals.

It hasn't been confirmed yet that WWE will be doing a full-fledged revival of the cruiserweight division but they are interested in bringing talents who fit that bill. The idea is that cruiserweights will give guys like Evan Bourne or Sin Cara someone to work with and would add a quality of wrestling to WWE's undercard.

This goes back to Triple H and changes he is making as he slowly takes over day-to-day control of the company.

Seems like everything the IWC has been clamoring for is being brought back. What's next? Kane's mask? The blue steel cage?

I'll believe it when I see it. I still don't have confidence on the claim of a tag division coming in.

Don't get me wrong, I do hope it'll happen, but I've not been shown that things like this can truly happen in a good way on a permanent basis. Personally, my expectations would be a few months of decent action, after which they'd be quarantined to Superstars or less.

Bourne has been booked to oblivion...just saying...and their first Cruiserweight Champion will be the one that held the belt last: Hornswoggle

This concludes this trolling moment.

I think Trips need to worry about the already established Tag Division before adding another belt that will be buried on Superstars/NXT and hardly ever seen on PPV, Raw or Smackdown.....

Honestly, I'd prefer him to get them to get the current product down a bit more sound before branching off into bringing other things in. In the end it's the same result, but I think instead of doing all this at once it should be done one thing at a time. It's going to be a bit of a mish-mash at first.

The product is currently pretty great, but they have a bit to go before I'd consider it stable.

Kane's mask?

I hope not.

But I do hope the Cruiserweight Division does return. Maybe even the Cruiserweight Championship, but it would only make sense if it was dual branded, like the Divas Championship.

Hopefully the Cruiserweights are on the main shows and PPV's and not just Superstars like they were back in the day when they only ever really appeared on Velocity.

I hate going back to the 1996-2001 era, but wrestling succeded because it showcased all of the divisions. It makes a variety of wrestlers seem more important to the audience. I mean you had a guy like Crash Holly be one of the most popular guys in the industry for months in the Hardcore division. D-Lo got super over once he became a staple in the European division.

I've always been a huge advocate of all these belts because it really does get people over. Don't get me wrong, WWE is beyond awesome right now, but there's a shit load of guys they can get over by seperating them into multiple divisions.

So Kofi and Borne are tag champs and that's means to tag division is complete rejuvinated?

They wont fix the tag ranks.

THey slap two gusy together, but dont give them a tag team name, or a tag finisher, or matching gear and think it works. They act like you cant change someone when you put them in a team.

Look at Beer Money. Both were middling singles wrestlers.

So what do they do? Come up with a tag gimmick and name. Change their attire, really sell the team aspect rather than being two singles guys together.

Now they are arguably the best tag team in the world.

Well, the Kings of Wrestling are coming in soon so having the straps on someone high profile like Kofi and a high flyer like Bourne could help give them quicker exposure and look good in the ring in a feud. Plus, they gave the Young Bucks a try out and I read they're looking at Beer Money and the Briscoes as potential future signings.

I do agree that WWE would be better served creating pure tag teams with matching gimmicks instead of mashing random singles competitors together.

I think that WWE have tried so hard to get 'little guys' like Punk, Rey, Danielson, etc over as contenders that pigeonholing (?) them into a cruiser division would be kind of a backward step for them tbh.

Lock Jaw

What if instead of a cruiserweight division based around a weight class, they make a division WHERE IT IS ABOUT NO LIMITS?

Sonofanarchy
08-23-2011, 03:33 PM
Jericho, Eddie and many others started in the Cruiser division showing they can get over and eventualy both got the WCW United States title(and then went to WWF and became main eventers)

So I woudln't buy into it making the little guys take a step back, they can still compete in both but the cruiser division would be a faster past style and they can say it doesn't use traditional olympic wrestling as much and thats a quality needed for the heavyweight division.

One of the best things about WCW was their Cruiserweight division even during the times their main event division was horrible.

Only concern I have is when the WWE eventually looses interest in the division and goes back to either ignoring them or just having them as a pool of wrestlers for squash matches.

At least if everything goes to plan, PPVs should become a bit better in diversity instead of the current focus of either on main event quality wrestlers or just title matches.

The WWE can actually make a decent Cruiserweight division and make them look cool like the X-Division.

Here is a list of guys that I believe can make up the new Cruiserweight divison

Cody Rhodes
Daniel Bryan
Evan Bourne
John Morrison*
Justin Gabriel*
Kofi Kingston
Primo
Rey Mysterio
Sin Cara
Trent Barreta*
Yoshi Tatsu

Kofi and Bourne wore a similar color scheme on Raw, and I believe it was Michael Cole who said that they were talking about coming up with a team name if they won the titles. Don't act like they're not trying.

This is good news if true. I was actually thinking about this today.

Bring in someone like Austin Aries (a guy who can talk and is an amazing wrestler) and have him claim to be the greatest cruiserweight in the world, taking on all challengers, having killer matches and winning. Then one week he comes out with a black bag and reveals the new Cruiserweight Championship belt and proclaims himself the champion.

Cue Triple H, who comes out and says it's a great idea, but no one comes out and makes themselves a champion without his say so ("Or Bischoff's..." he jokes). Hunter announces a 16-man tournament for the Cruiserweight Championship which would culminate at WrestleMania 27.

Yes, I can dream.

I don't understand the point of creating essentially another midcard belt and pigeonholing guys who could eventually be legit main eventers when you could just as easily use those guys to restore credibility to the United States or IC titles.

At the two biggest shows of the year, Wrestlemania and Summerslam, neither of those titles were even featured. Why would a Cruiserweight division comprised of some of the same guys who were IC or U.S. champion when those belts were left off be any better?

XL
08-24-2011, 01:42 PM
Exactly.

Neither the US or IC belts were defended on the last TWO PPVs, and no doubt they'd be left off the next one if not for the "All championships defended" gimmick.

XL

It's one of those IWC things.

Complain that there are too many belts or that the midcard belts don't mean anything / Think they should bring back the Cruiser/Euro/Hardcore beltas to "give some guys something to do".

Officials from the Dragon Gate USA promotion recently confirmed that WWE has expressed interest in signing several of their contracted wrestlers. DGUSA has stated that it will allow any of its wrestlers out of their contracts in the event that WWE wants to sign them. No word yet on which DGUSA stars WWE is interested in, but this does jive with our recent report that WWE is looking to bring in a number of cruiserweight-sized wrestlers.

But, these belts SHOULDN'T be defended at PPV's often...IMO, those belts should be Raw/SD! Type TV titles, where young studs work their asses off, on TV to get themselves and the belts over. Last time that worked right was with Benoit and MVP, go fucking figure.

Big mid card feuds could have the eventual blowoff match on PPV, but that's my measly two cents.
