View Full Version : What is your favourite album of all time?

Just one! Your absolute favourite.

No honorable mentions, runner-ups, joint-favourites or top threes etc, just grow a fucking pair and choose one album.

The one album you will always have in your heart as your 'favourite'. The one album you would choose to keep if you had to get rid of your entire music collection. The one album... you get the idea.

Just give me that one life-changing album that is so sacred and dear to you that it transcends all others lists.

Give it to me.

Mine would be 'Images and Words' by Dream Theater.

This is difficult, but...

Metallica (Black Album) - Metallica

Not an easy choice at all, but there are enought songs I like on there to keep it there. I know you said not to mention, but my other choice would have been Ten - Pearl Jam

The first record that comes to mind is Joni Mitchell's Blue album. The moment I heard the opening bars of the dulcimer on "All I Want", I had goosebumps and the record just kicked my arse. The funny thing is that I put off listening to the album for months after I bought it; don't know why. But I regretted it as soon as put the thing on.

To be fair, 'Images and Words' was my first exposure to Dream Theater, and at first I didn't 'get it' and just thought it was crap. It grew on me eventually and totally changed my life. So glad I gave it a couple of chances. :y:

I thought Images and Words was "mad" cheese when I first heard it. It was, but I came to enjoy it. Haven't listened to it in a while.

I'd say that Illinois by Sufjan Stevens had the biggest impact on me in terms of how I listen to music, but wouldn't call it my favorite album I guess.

Can't really say an all time favorite, tbh. I love lots of albums in different ways.

I've probably had more fun listening to Lil Wayne's Drought 3 mixtape than any other album in my life. But obviously not my "favorite".

Dunno, can't answer this

The medley in the second half of Abbey Road is my favorite piece of music ever. Amazing album, even with Maxwell's Silver Hammer included.

I don't have one "absolute" favorite, but if I were to be stuck on a deserted island and had to pick just one album to run ad nauseaum...well, then it would have to be,

Amazing album that makes me all tingly inside and stuff.

There are others I can choose, but this is the first that came to mind.

Dirt is the best album by Alice In Chains, but you really can't go wrong with any AIC.

Awesome choice there with Images & Words, Dream Theater are probably my favourite band.

That said my favourite album is probably Bat Out Of Hell 2 by Meat Loaf. It was the first album I ever properly heard and fell in love with and it's one that I can listen to over and over again without getting bored. There are plenty of albums out there that I can of course listen to again and a again, a few of them are mentioned in this thread such as The Wall, Images & Words, Powerslave but because of it being the first Bat 2 gets the nod from me.

I can see that. Paradise City is a fun song, but not a great song. Still, My Michelle, Sweet Child O' Mine, Anything Goes, and Rocket Queen are all really solid, so the album finishes really strong too.

Achtung Baby-U2

Just an incredible album and captures the uncertainty of the times perfectly. I can listen to it cover to cover no problem and like every song on the album...there are other albums like that, but I like the themes of Achtung Baby and it has a lot of meaning for me.

Lets get this straight.

You can pick one album.

Only one.

That you can listen to for the rest of your life.

Nothing else.

And Sascha...

Picks a band fronted by Bono.

I forgot about The Wall. I was thinking of the Metallica album I would pick instead of what else was available.

I might be a Metallica fan, but I'd take The Wall over anything they have ever made.

Had to choose between Who's Next, Tommy, The White Album and Led Zeppelin IV but The Who Sell Out is my favorite. Fun songs and a great concept.
