View Full Version : Changes to WWE Studios
As noted before, WWE has promoted Michael Luisi to the head of WWE Studios. The Los Angeles time wrote about Luisi and WWE's films division yesterday and revealed some changes that will be coming.
The LA Times reports that Luisi is looking to increase WWE Studios' output to 6 to 8 films per year. Besides creating movies, Luisi also plans to actively seek to acquire movies for WWE to release. Luisi is headed to the upcoming Toronto Film Festival to look for movies that WWE Studios can buy.
Luisi also says that from here on out, WWE Studios films won't always feature a Superstar in the lead role. He said, "The creative will dictate whether or not it makes sense to have WWE talent in the movie."
Finally, under Luisi's direction, WWE will look to release their movies through other platforms besides movie theaters. "Everyone is well aware that the landscape is shifting, we're looking to create content that would potentially bypass the theatrical window," Luisi said.
I've never watched a WWE film but this seems like a good step for them. What do you think?
I'm still waiting for my Expendables type WWE film ft. pretty much nothing but wrestlers

WWE should do a fucking movie about rasslin, the Gorgeous George days with current WWE superstars.
I want to see Hulkamania: The Movie.
Starring:
John Cena as Hulk Hogan
Big Zeke as Mr. T
CM Punk as Roddy Piper
Etc.

It makes sense. You can't force guys who aren't leading men to be leading men. Some Movies have shown WWE guys can be successful if they had the right role in them. Look at the Rock in that Mummy movie. Small but he was effective enough to get a spin off movie out of it.

Getting movies without wrestlers in them and just releasing them under the WWE studios label is a reasonable idea for a way to make more money, but I can't imagine Vince really being satisfied with it.
And where the hell is Punk's idea for an all-wrestler remake of Cannonball Run? I'd watch the hell out of that.

Still waiting on WWE Land (ft. attractions such as Undertaker's Last Ride, CM Punk's Bedtime Stories, and Randy Orton's Snake Pit(it's like a regular snake pit only 30 Randy's are sprawled in the grass waiting to RKO you)).
Also need WWE Records, WWE Retail Stores, WWE Refreshments (still pissed I didn't get to try RAW when it came out).
After that it'll be The United States of McMahon......until the nuclear war which turns us all in to ghouls..........I've got spurs that jingle jangle jingle.

The flip side is, the WWE brand might actually alienate people against these movies. I mean, maybe it won't, but I think outside the rasslin' world WWE's name is more a liability than an asset.

Of course, in true WWE fashion, they would forget to explain the meaning and it wouldn't be mentioned in the sequel.
Dont WWE constantly cry about Rock leaving wrestling to make films?

They should make a movie about the Rock making movies. Maybe Otunga can play him.

It's just so difficult for some people to get into the story that each movies presents, as opposed to thinking "Oh, that's John Cena in a movie playing some guy"...that I don't know if these movies will ever "take off" like Vince and the WWE wants them to.

I agree Vince should really just produce the movies and not necessarily have rasslers in the main roles. Have them be supporting characters or not even in the movie.

I don't know. It's not that different from a lot of action heroes. Except, you know, most of these guys aren't on the same level as most action stars. I suppose that's the big difference for me, since there's something about the Rock and Austin that lend themselves to action stardom, then I guess a couple WWE guys (Cena I can sort of buy), but the drop off is pretty quick.
