View Full Version : Does anyone actually think Mark Henry can win at NOC?

Pintint

Is the WWE actually convincing anyone that Mark Henry has any chance? So far their feud has been boring, despite me being a fan of Mark Henry. It seems like the old formula, Henry is built up as a monster heel to face the face champ for the title and the face champ overcomes the challenge and wins.

Does anyone actually think Henry could win?

I can guarantee that Henry won't win.

WILL he win? No. The title has been bounced around too much the past few months. I don't see Orton losing for a while. I could see him holding to Mania.

CAN he win? I really think he could, given the right circumstances. He is enormously over as a heel, and he plays his character perfectly.

In fact, I want to see a Henry title win at this point. Maybe not at NOC, but I'd love to see him hold it and have a dominating title run. It would also be huge for whoever beats him. There's no downside I see to Henry winning at this point.

Danielson vs Henry could be awesome if built up right. It'd require Danielson to snap and have a mean streak going into Mania. It would be good TV.

I can't believe I actually want Mark Henry to be in a "Main Event" at a WrestleMania, but I do. He's just that good right now.

Woah woah woah... no matter how well he is booked, Mark Henry should not be anywhere near the main event of Wrestlemania.

Yeah I agree, was gonna say i was referring to the dominant title run bit.

Woah woah woah... no matter how well he is booked, Mark Henry should not be anywhere near the main event of Wrestlemania.

I disagree. Obviously, he wouldn't be THE main event. I don't think he has that much left in him, so this year would be IT for him for a "main event" spot. And this year, you have Cena vs. Rock as your real main event, as well as other, bigger matches than anything SmackDown! can produce.

I'll make it clear that I don't want him in the REAL main event. I'm talking Del Rio vs. Edge "main event". And the whole point wouldn't be for Henry to be put over but for him to put someone over huge. A destructive monster being taken down in a title match after a dominating title run would be HUGE for the guy who beats them, and doing it at Mania only adds to the profile level of the win.

And I'm not really optimistic here. I don't have faith in WWE doing anything right after dropping the ball with Punk. It's just a hopeful scenario which COULD pan out if the stars aligned.

Honestly, yeah, I could see it happening. The title has lost a lot of prestige over the years, and if guys like Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger, who haven't been with the company for nearly as long as Henry has, can become "World Heavyweight Champions," then I really don't see why Henry couldn't when he's been on such a hot streak. I think it might be a good move, actually, if someone like Christian showed up and cost Orton the title. They could continue what has been an amazing feud and blow it off at Hell in a Cell in one of the show's titular matches - and hopefully Christian could regain some of the steam that he's lost.

Meanwhile, I could definitely see Henry defending the belt against Sheamus for a couple of PPV's, since both guys have proven that they work well together, and Sheamus could use a bit more upper level exposure.

I can see him winning, but that's only because I see WWE doing it as a way to say "Thanks for 15 years of service free of any failed drug tests or legal problems" more so than a desire to give him a long reign. Didn't he say he planned on retiring within the next couple of years anyway?

I think the WWE is a little bit more organized and better managed than your giving them credit for Xero. I don't think they'd bring Nash in and not vet him for potential scheduling conflicts prior to going ahead with the storyline and I don't think he'd fuck over Trips by not disclosing them.

If he does nothing at NOC, you'll have your answer. Could I be wrong? Sure. But from what I've seen with the sloppy booking and ridiculously rushed cop-outs, I don't think I am. All I see is Punk in a downward spiral of bad booking and poor planning. I'm hoping for the best and am open to it, but I'm very pessimistic after seeing them leave money on the table with Cena/Punk like they did.

Anyway, this is about Henry, not Punk. And I'm indeed more interested in Henry than Punk right now.

I agree with Xero as I think it would be a nice way to put someone over down the line and give Henry a little 'pat on the back' for being with the WWE so long. It's win win. As for if he can win at Night of Champions, well I think it's certanly possible I mean WWE seems to be doing things that are spontanious and stuff as of late and it would throw alot of people off. My money's on Orton but if Henry wins I won't be that surprised.

Like VKM used to say he's got no chance and I already know that it will end with Henry going for the World's Strongest Slam only to have it reversed wiith an RKO since ever previous attempt has been blocked.

Mr. Nerfect
09-10-2011, 10:54 PM
Henry could win. He'd essentially be a monster heel with matches already set-up with Kane, Orton, Sheamus and even Big Show. They've done a great job setting it up almost as an inevitability. Of course, logical storytelling would dictate that Orton finds a way to beat Henry, proving himself to be the night in shining armour that can stop the rampaging beast. But it just depends on how dark the WWE feels like taking SmackDown!.

Hell in a Cell is coming up, and I can't really see Orton vs. Christian happening anymore. Sheamus vs. Christian? Not powerful enough for the Cell, yet. Orton vs. Henry could head into it, but Henry's drawing power would be depleted if Orton beat him cleanly at Night of Champions, and then he wanted a rematch. Orton would need to lose and then try to regain the title from Henry in the "dangerous" Cell environment. They could also go with Orton vs. Henry vs. Christian vs. Sheamus, and combine a lot of the hatred these guys all have for each other.

So, to answer your question? I'd be placing money on Orton retaining, too; but Henry could absolutely win. It all depends on what they want to do for Hell in a Cell. Duh.

I would semi like him to win, mostly because he's just soo "monsterous" if that makes sense. It would kinda fit on the role he's on "He destroyed Big Show, he destroyed Kane, he ended the career of Vladimir Koslov and now he's World Champ" It could be the gateway to making a new major main eventer

Henry as champion would definitely be more sensical than Sheamus, Ziggler, Swagger, Khali, and even Christian. The booking for Henry makes it totally feasible for him to win the title at this point. I may be wrong, but I don't think Orton, as a face, has ever been on a title chase against an opponent set up to be such a thorough threat to him.

Mr. Pierre
09-11-2011, 03:05 PM
I could see some non-finish at NOC to extend the program and keep the belt on Orton.

Maybe Orton tries to take it to the outside and brawl, but Henry ends up giving him the World's Strongest Slam through the table, and as Henry is rolling Orton in to pin him, he gets counted out.

Henry then freaks out in the post-match and beats the hell out of him. The beatdown has to be vicious enough to sell the audience on a HIAC rematch in 2 weeks time.

But yeah, that's how I see it playing out.

Really? Really?? REALLY???

The WWE have booked him to utter shit since SummerSlam.

Referee Triple H blew the rope break call which tainted CM Punk's victory over John Cena. Then out of the blue Kevin fucking Nash runs in and Jacknife Power Bombs CM Punk. Then Del Rio cashes in Money in the Bank to defeat CM Punk for the WWE Championship he just won.

Which leaves CM Punk out of the title picture and playing third fiddle to Triple H and Kevin Nash's bullshit with John Lauranitis in tow. First he's wrestling Kevin Nash, but wait that is cancelled and he is wrestling C.O.O. Triple H now.

It's clusterfuck booking.

I already pointed out that my dream (not really) scenario would be for Henry to win the belt (probably in HIAC) and then beat everyone he's injured/taken out leading to Henry/Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania. They can throw it on first and get it out of the way with all the other big matches they have on the card, but it would be a really interesting david v goliath feud.

Good on Mark Henry for winning the big one. He's really made people believe in him lately, and although I wouldn't have gone the route of him beating Orton; I do think that this will be good for both men and SmackDown! in general.

This is retarded. The run to Henry's title win was booked like a well-oiled machine, and the match was better than it had any reason to be. Just because a guy is a human bulldozer doesn't mean he can't be booked well as a champion. WWE could have a great thing if they had him hold on to the title until Elimination Chamber, only to lose it after being beaten down gang-style by the rest of the participants.

This. It just felt inorganic when he got the push in the wake of Eddie's passing.

Also, now that he is the World Heavyweight Champion, I kind of hope that Henry does get a decent run with the belt. Have him beat Orton at Hell in a Cell pretty decisively. Sheamus also beats Christian to become the #1 Contender. At Vengeance, Henry beats Sheamus cleanly to retain the belt again. After the match, Henry looks to add Sheamus to the Hall of Pain, but the arena is filled with red light, and a mask appears on the titantron. A masked Kane returns and Henry bails it. Survivor Series sees Henry team up with some villains from the SmackDown! brand to face Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kane, Big Show, etc. I'd probably take the title off him at TLC, and have Henry go on a rampage. I want Henry in the Royal Rumble. The idea of him tossing people out left, right and centre is a pretty good visual.
